Social responsibility as defined by pachamama.org is an ethical theory, in which individuals are accountable for fulfilling their civic duty; the actions of an individual must benefit the whole of society. To be socially responsible in American society, one must make decisions in their daily lives that positively benefit the people around you, and be involved in your community. How do we apply the current definition of social responsibility to our daily lives, and how to act accordingly? In Roselyn K. Polk's “Social Responsibility” the author list elements of being socially responsible which include taking responsibility for your actions and having a respectful and caring attitude towards others.” Taking responsibility for your actions and even your failures is a huge demonstration of Social responsibility for it goes against the social norms set in place as Robert Graczyn Jr. describes in his “Where the Buck Stops: Personal Responsibility in a ‘Not Me’ Society” speech as “Not Me-ism.” In this speech, Greczyn Jr. analyzes the world that we live in and shows the reader that nobody takes responsibility for their actions.
