I am so pleased to have accomplished this assignment because it gave me the opportunity to finally edit a trailer for a TV Pilot that I wrote, produced and acted in last year. The completed Pilot has even screened at a number of film festivals throughout the country but I was never able to submit a professional trailer with it because I didn't think I could do it justice. Well, I surprised myself. I have a had a "working" knowledge of iMovie for a few years now (say 75% out of 100%) but I really dove in and discovered some pretty cool effects, sound editing tools and transitions that gave me the look I desired.
Editing has always been something I have wanted to master because since I write and produce my own productions, it would be so much
more time and cost efficient if I could do it myself. While I like the functionality and ease of iMovie, it is my ultimate goal to become familiar with Adobe Photoshop and in the future, Final Cut because of the amazing capabilities that these two programs provide. If you want to be the best, you need to work on the best. I have been in the editing bay with editors before and I know that Final Cut is quite the undertaking. The small amount that I have messed with Adobe, it appears to be similar to iMovie and much less intimidating, so this is where I see myself moving to next. It is my personal learning goal to have basic knowledge and understanding of Adobe before the end of this course, 3 weeks time. I won't be looking to edit feature length films or anything like that, but if I can piece together a short film, photo montage or even a short musical performance, I will be very pleased and ready to tackle tougher assignments with the software in the future.
The story A Television Drama, by Jane Rule is an exciting story about an unusual event, which the main character, Carolee Mitchell, experiences the end of. The story is about her quiet street becoming unusually busy with police officers, and how the man who is being chased by these officers ends up being outside her front door. Through the point of view of the story, the characterization and character change of Carolee Mitchell, and the setting of the story, A Television Drama is an exciting read. The story conveys how important it is to be aware of ones surroundings, and what is happening around oneself through these elements.
In his article “Star Trek Rerun, Reread, Rewritten,” Henry Jenkins addresses the function of fandoms, more specifically the writing of fan-fiction, and further in the context of the Star Trek fandom. He claims that fans are “textual poachers” who take pieces of the original text that they deem as worthy, and rework, or improve areas that they find problematic or contradictory to the overall purpose of the piece. This “poaching” that is transformed works into fan-fiction are heavily written by females, at least in the Star Trek fandom. Jenkins states that this is due to the fact that women have a rather limited and highly stereotyped portrayal in science fiction. Thus, in writing fan-fiction, women are able to express themselves and their own

Glee: Defying the Mainstream The herd will take care of it” (Glee). This is not a reference to cattle but rather a reference to high school students; this quote was said by a teacher on the show Glee, indicating that students enforce the status quo. Ironically, this show does the opposite. The episode “Pilot” from the show Glee by Ryan Murphy is unique for television shows because it reverses the stereotypical views of society, and this essay will analyze it by summarizing the show, applying the Rhetorical Method and the Gender & Sexuality Method, discussing an outside source to further explain the creators motives regarding the show, and evaluating the text as a whole.
The elements of editing such as shots, takes, scenes, and sequences are important factors to each film. In the film, the

With this short but very interesting and informative class I have just scratched the surface of the what it takes to make a full fleged film. It takes much more than I had presumed to make a movie in Hollywood. The number of people that it takes to make a minute of a movie let alone the entire movie was astonishing to me. There are many things that it takes to start making a movie but without an idea of some sort there is no movie to be made.
When the task of creating a film trailer was first put to us, I had
It is with great enthusiasm that I submit my application for Vox Media’s Racked Video Intern position. I think that I would be a great addition to the Racked team as it’s a company that focuses on making retail and fashion accessible. As a short form storyteller myself, I have the understanding that an viewer should be able to be fully experience a discussion or be introduced to a new topic in a matter of minutes. My prior experience as a short form storyteller takes root in my schooling as an animation major at the School of Visual Arts. During this time I learned After Effects, which I used to produce short projects every week. These projects included short films, commercials, and music videos.
The second step to carrying out my exit project, was researching about time lapse photography, how to make a time lapse video, and finding the needed materials to make the time lapse video. The research part was easy due to the research essay process that was required of us. To complete my exit project, I had to have a thoroughly written research essay on my topic. Luckily, I had the proper resources and guidelines to complete this research paper. I did lots of research on how to create time lapse videos along with the history and origins of it. Writi...
Film editing by definition is part of the creative postproduction process of filmmaking. In today’s modern world, film has made use of advanced digital technology to help with the editing. The editor or editors are usually given a complete compilation of all the footage. These various separate shots that can be regarded as ‘ raw’ footage. Their task is to create a finished motion picture through combining and selecting shots and putting them into a coherent sequence of events. Whenever we are viewing a film it is extremely difficult to consciously perceive all the editing that has been undertaken. Every single time there is a change from one image to another, this is an edit. For editors, it could be a possible annoyance or perhaps a blessing that critics and the audience never specifically point out the editor’s contribution. However it must be noted that film editors aren’t the only ones that will contribute to a films editing.
Many people consider editing as the most unique dimension of the film experience. One of the first people to start using editing was Eadweard Muy-bridge’s in 1877. The experiment
As stated by Alex Zambelli, 2014 “To the generation of children being born now, flipping TV channels will one day seem as foreign as rotary phone dialling”. Based on the quote above, it has come to an understanding that technology may develop into a new medium. Jenkins (2006) argues, “digital revolution presumed that the outcome of technological change was more or less inevitable.” This implies that technology will continue to be more advance and it is unavoidable. In example, some of the changes can be seen from hand phones to smart phones and desktops to laptops or tablets. This does show that technological change is inevitable, as technology will continue to be more advance because of competitors and inventors. This paper focuses on the
Offering the unique ability to visually and audibly convey a story, films remain a cornerstone in modern society. Combined with a viewer’s desire to escape the everyday parameters of life, and the excitement of enthralling themselves deep into another world, many people enjoy what films stand to offer. With the rising popularity of films across the world, the amount of film makers increases every day. Many technological innovations mark the advancement of film making, but the essential process remains the same. Pre-production accounts for everything taken place before any shooting occurs, followed by the actual production of the film, post-production will then consist of piecing the film together, and finally the film must reach an audience. Each step of this process contributes to the final product, and does so in a unique right. The process of film making will now start chronologically, stemming from the idea of the story, producing that story into a film, editing that footage together, and finally delivering that story to its viewers.
Video editing has gone a long way in technology. It has come from just putting pieces of a film together into adding sound effects, adding filters and adding captions or pictures into the film. I would love to be in as a video editor as it advances in time. I want to see it evolve and become something better than it is now. I can’t wait for my turn in film editing history.
