Change is inevitable, but should millennials encourage change to run our educational institutions? Technology introduces to society an enhancement as well as an increased interaction among the citizens of society. That is to say, students will be more exposed to misinformation if they were given a laptop in lieu of a textbook. Schools should consider whether it is even effective to use the internet as a source for research. As the world has witnessed today, Google and Facebook -the biggest internet-related services- have trouble censoring false information. This problem limits student’s minds exposed to credible information, possibly teaching them subjects that are incorrect and perhaps, trivial. Like Gladwell, Nicholas Carr believes the internet has negative effects. In his article, “Is Google Making Us Stupid”, Carr attempts to show as the internet becomes our primary source of information, it diminishes the ability to read books and extensive research. Carr goes on to give a very well researched account of how text on the internet is designed make browsing fast and profitable. He describes how the design for skimming affects our thinking skills and attention spans. He wraps up his argument by describing what we are losing in the shift toward using the internet as our main information source. Carr suggests the learning process that occurs in extensive research and through reading is lost. While the learning process can be beneficial to scholars and intellectuals, not everyone has the capability to follow through with it. The internet offers an education that anyone can have access to and understand. Also if Carr believes the learning process is better, this option is always available for people who want to learn according to this scholarly principal. Through the use of many anecdotes, Wilson reflects on her experiences of teaching the iGeneration and their ability to ignore negative criticism and still show their full potential. In her article, Wilson discusses the iGeneration’s reliance on technology and social media; however, she does not engage the disadvantages of technology, in particular laptops in the classroom, which, as I argue here, is in need of more study. In this essay, I argue that the use of laptops by students in a university classroom is distracting not only to the student, but also to surrounding students. Inevitably, multitasking and distractions in the classroom will result in a decline in academic performance.

In the story "School vs Education" by Russell Baker, the author claims that we do some of our most important learning before the education stage of our lives. "By the age of six the average child will have completed the basic American education and be ready to enter school"(Baker 1). He believes the only point of education in schooling is to get students through the "testing stage". He said "Early in this stage, the child learns that he is either dumb or smart. If the teacher puts intelligent demands upon the child, the child learns he is smart. If the teacher expects little of the child, the child learns he is dumb and soon quits bothering to tell the testers what they want to hear."(Baker 7). With technology updating all the time, it makes it easier to learn new things and to become more intelligent. Technology has given people all around the world to access data and build new innovations based on IT knowledge. The world now needs technology to have a developed nation to properly connect one another. This connection creates bonds and quick work ethic in schools and everyday jobs. Though there are many pros to how fast the world is discovering new innovations, people still have not come to terms with the change that the world is developing.
