Photography has come a long way from the moment that it was created to now. Now photography has become the center of this generations attention. From professional picture to amateur selfie shots the use and need for photos has grown like a weed. Another thing that has grown like a weed is literal weed. There is an ever-growing issue of teens on drugs in the U.S. The problem has become so large that every day we see picture, videos of teens smoking and we’ve become accustomed to it. Once we become accustomed to things like drugs and more we will no longer see it as a problem than needs to be fixed. Soon not only will teens will be on drugs. it will be the goal for the younger generation to come. One photo shows a teen girl smoking a bong and wearing a shirt that states “Its only illegal if your caught”, this is a problem because it shows that even though they know taking drugs are against the law they will still find a way to get to them despite the obvious consequences. One major issue that affects the US today is the use of illegal drugs. One of the fastest growing illegal drugs is methamphetamine. Methamphetamine, also known commonly as meth, is "the label given to a homemade substance that is manufactured (typically) in rural labs using fertilizers, cold tablets, and household acids" (Armstrong, 2007, p. 427). When it is manufactured, it is commonly seen as a powder or crystal that is white in color, has no distinguishable odor, and is pungent to the taste (McKinley & Fink III, 2006). There are several means by which meth can be consumed. This can include the product being smoked, inhaled, swallowed, or injected by needles (McKinley & Fink III, 2006 & O’Connor, Chriqui, & McBride, 2006).

The reasons why this argument is so important are great. As previously stated, Marijuana is the most commonly used illegal drug in the world, and with millions of people using it regularly and almost 100 million that have ever used it in this country, the laws behind this drug hold great influence. It is because of this and the immergence of new evidence, that the justification behind prohibition of this drug is being rethought scientifically, socially, and economically. The use of Marijuana as both medicine and a recreational drug is being thoroughly questioned in the US. 27 states have Marijuana approved in some form, many of those for medical purposes however those users can still, and do get placed into prison by federal law. Currently, 830,00 people a year are in trouble with the law in regards to Marijuana and numbers seem to be on an uphill trend . Furthermore, the US invests 30 billion a year into the drug war, half of which is dedicated to Marijuana. Many are questioning its success all together. Both imprisonment and the war cost our country, and therefore our people, money. A change in laws is going to have a dramatic affect on America.

Recreational drug use has been controversial for years. Government has deemed the use of certain drugs to be dangerous, addictive, costly, and fatal. Governmental agencies have passed laws to make drugs illegal and then have focused a great deal of attention and money trying to prohibit the use of these drugs, and many people support these sanctions because they view the illegality of drugs to be the main protection against the destruction of our society (Trebach, n.d.). Restricting behavior doesn’t generally stop people from engaging in that behavior; prohibition tends to result in people finding more creative ways to obtain and use drugs. However, just knowing that trying to control people’s behavior by criminalizing drug use does not work still leaves us looking for a solution, so what other options exist? Because teens lack the maturity and knowledge to understand long term consequences, they tend not to think about the down falls that they will face as a result of the drug use. This is especially true when it come to marijuana, as it is seen by so many as the harmless drug. With the increased use of marijuana by youth over the last three decades, it is imperative that better preventative measures, and firmer penalties, be put in place to educate and raise awareness concerning the risks and dangerous side effects that marijuana use can have. Only once society has put these preventative measures in to action, will there be an effective change seen.

Now, how many people have died from an overdose of marijuana in the history of the drug? The answer is none, because you would have to consume more than your own body weight in less than an hour. When you here the word ‘drugs,’ what’s the first thing that comes to mind? Is it ‘those are illegal!’ Or is it more along the lines of ‘Yes, please.’ It’s no secret that as the years go on, teenagers of every generation have been getting involved with drugs, to their frantic parent’s dismay. And according to Students Against Destructive Decisions, 50% of teens have reported using an illicit drug by the time they graduate high school. So why have teenagers still been doing drugs when they’ve been proven to be more harmful then helpful?
Alcohol in our society is a very common drug. Some people consume it socially and in moderation, while others misuse this drug. Consuming it in moderation can be beneficial, where as misusing it can be harmful. Studies show that 10% of men and 3-5% of women suffer from alcoholism and 5-10% percent of people suffer from drinking problems that are diagnosable. Studies have also shown, females and young adults have increased their consumption of alcohol. Being helpless, by alcohol weakening the memory, adolescents are yet numb to the alcohol effecting motor. Which explains the high number of fatal accidents in young adults.
