Despite the world being full of diverse people with varying accomplishments and skill sets, people oftentimes assume the qualities and traits of an individual based purely on the stereotypes set forth by society. Although these stereotypes are unavoidable, an individual can be liberated, empowered and ultimately overcome these stereotypes by obtaining an advanced education.
Television has affected every aspect of life in society, radically changing the way individuals live and interact with the world. However, change is not always for the better, especially the influence of television on political campaigns towards presidency. Since the 1960s, presidential elections in the United States were greatly impacted by television, yet the impact has not been positive. Television allowed the public to have more access to information and gained reassurance to which candidate they chose to vote for. However, the media failed to recognize the importance of elections. Candidates became image based rather than issue based using a “celebrity system” to concern the public with subjects regarding debates (Hart and Trice). Due to “hyperfamiliarity” television turned numerous people away from being interested in debates between candidates (Hart and Trice). Although television had the ability to reach a greater number of people than it did before the Nixon/Kennedy debate, it shortened the attention span of the public, which made the overall process of elections unfair, due to the emphasis on image rather than issue.

Though Chatterjee, Anderson, Kelly and Kaplan were all looking at history from different cultural, historic and personal lenses, they agree that a nation must consist of people sharing certain traits. Each author believes that nations must be homogenous, but differ as to the degree. Anderson rightly points out the necessity for a shared political goal but fails to address the need for inner unity. A group of people who only share a political goal may very well achieve this goal, but as Yugoslavia showed – they will not form a stable nation-state. As Chatterjee rightly points out, a stable nation state requires a collective inner, cultural domain.

The progress made during the 21st century makes it easy for heterosexuals to forget that homosexuals still face persecution on a daily basis, despite gaining marriage equality in several western countries. Microaggressions and heteronormativity in the workplace in addition to physical acts of violence committed by others can have detrimental effects on LGBT individuals. The economic, physical, and mental well-being of homosexuals is constantly threatened by the stigma surrounding their identity and several types of discrimination. Lesbian and gay members of society are often pressured into remaining closeted because their identities are often deemed ‘inappropriate’ or ‘outlandish’ for the workplace. In a U.S. national study, “⅓ of LGB employees
My papers typically consisted of a couple of sources jammed into random crevices of thought. I usually didn’t care what kind of source the quote came from, as long as the quote supported my thesis. Now, I’m well practiced in using scholarly sources and checking into the author’s background. The annotated bibliography helped me to focus on the reliability of the sources in conjunction with the background of the authors. I thought it was really awesome to be able to contribute research of my own rather than just regurgitating other people’s research.

Technology has improved over the past many years, and it is beginning to change the ways classes are structured. Schools have begun replacing their old tech, chalkboards and textbooks , with newer models, smart boards and ebooks. While this progress should continue, it should do so in moderation. The most important factors a school should consider before using a certain technology are the benefits in time efficiency, the amount of helpful resources available with the tech, and the overall well-being of students. Students, and children in general, are not the best at time management.
The idea of social responsibility has emerged in society over the past years and has been made out to be a very important concept. The concept of social responsibility covers “social skills while enabling him or her to be active and responsible members of their larger social and political community” (Source 1). Though, to be a socially responsible member of American Society is to participate in social events and be aware of what is happening in the American Society. It is to be able to take action and know the consequences for events that are happening, and to know how one’s actions will affect the community before commiting that action. Being a socially responsible individual can be the first step in making a community greater than it already is.
The Web. The Web. 9 Jan 2014. Wallace, Kelly. Social Media Positive for Teens?
The correlation between the development of youth and social media has become blatant. Although few of the consequences are favorable, the majority have displayed a negative impact. The drive social media can implement on youth is exceptional. The pressure and strain social media can place on our youth is an enduring force which leads individuals to question themselves as a person and feel inclined to fit a norm expressed in media and social media of our society. The underlying force social media can play in the lives of the youth is astonishing and is a force that must be dealt with and controlled, for it not only holds the power to give an individual strength, but also to break them down.
