Royal Caribbean International is taking delivery this month of its newest ship, the Symphony of the Seas. The twenty-fifth ship of the fleet, she will also be the fourth member of the Oasis class and due to a few design changes will become the largest cruise ship in the world. She will be about 1,100 gross tons larger than the Harmony of the Seas and about 2,800 gross tons larger than the first two ships of the class. The second of three Oasis class ships to be built at STX France, the Symphony of the Seas uses the same hull design as the Harmony of the Seas that was introduced in 2016, and which is slightly larger than the first two ship of the class that were built at STX Europe in 2009 and 2010. However, a number of design modifications …show more content…
The Symphony of the Seas will offer a total of 20 specialty and complementary restaurants. Changes in the entertain areas include enlarging the Boardwalk area with more space in the fun zone, the addition of a sports bar and a new ice cream and candy bar. The zip line stretching across the top of the Boardwalk area will be the longest at sea. The ship will also feature a glow in the dark laser tag game and a new escape room experience for passengers. A number of the alterations address issues identified on the earlier ships. For example, a plunge pool has been added on the Symphony of the Seas, and light-weight panels that have been problematic on the previous ship were replaced with glass panels in the Solarium. Construction of the Symphony of the Seas began in October 2015 with the ship being floated out in June 2017. Fitting out has been on-going at the STX shipyard and between February 15 and 18, 2018 she undertook her first official sea trials. A second, shorter sea trip is planned for early March with handover scheduled for March 23rd. The Symphony of the Seas will then sail for Barcelona, Spain where she is scheduled to board her first revenue passenger on March 31st. After cruises in the Mediterranean, she will reposition to Miami, Florida in November
“The Wreck of the Sea-Venture,” written by Peter Linebaugh and Marcus Rediker in their book Many Headed Hydra, tells the story of the shipwreck of the Sea-Venture en route to Virginia in 1669, which left the passengers of the ship stranded on Bermuda without a ship to continue the journey to Virginia. While the members of the Virginia Company made a boat to continue the journey, the remaining passengers of the Sea-Venture had to cooperate with one another in order to survive. The authors’ thesis in this document is the shipwreck of the Sea-Venture and the actions taken by the sailors portray the themes of early Atlantic settlement. For example, the sailing of the Sea-Venture was caused by expropriation. The Virginia Company advertised the New
In “Chapter 6 – The Sea Around Us” of Elizabeth Kolbert’s The Sixth Extinction: An Unnatural History, the author reveals the fact that the ocean is acidifying due to human activities, such as burning fossil fuels and deforestation. In this chapter, Kolbert notes that there was a lack of biodiversity near the vents at Castello Aragonese in order to present the oceans’ future possibility. One of the types of sea creatures that ocean acidification would devastate are the calcifiers, which are organisms that create shells or skeletons made of calcium carbonate (Kolbert 117-122). Credible sources of information, such as the EPA and the Smithsonian Institution, agree that ocean acidification poses a serious threat to marine calcifiers,

Ocean shipping probably will meet with the pirates, which could lead to economic losses. Technology How to make the vessel keep efficiency by using less fuel, so company could cut the cost. The company’s current strategy is to attract more repeat cruisers and new cruisers of different segments by offering different types of packages. Such differences include choice of shorter or longer cruises, a low to moderate price for affordable cruises for middle class, and longer luxury cruises for affluent classes. As part of the company’s plan, Carnival is "going global" through a joint venture with Hyundai Merchant Marine to the Asia market.
Only two people have visited the Mariana Trench and survived. It has a unique formation. It is a dark place. The marine life is small. The Mariana Trench is the deepest point of the ocean, and it is important to know the formation, the phenomenal physical makeup, and marine life.
The report concluded that current ship naming practices are in keeping with tradition and recommended against the establishment of fixed naming policies (DON, 2012). Even though there has been a conscious effort throughout history to stick to a fixed naming process for Navy ships there have been many exceptions due the ever changing times we live in but what has not changed is why a ship is referred to as
In May of 1403, the Yongle emperor ordered shipyards to produce ocean going ships. He also ordered many flat-bottomed transport boats to be refitted for the ocean. The ship building frenzy continued into 1407, by which time over 1681 vessels had been built. (Levathes) Louise Levathes speculates that the colossal “Treasure Ships,” for which the fleet and its voyages were named, were around four hundred feet long and one hundred sixty feet wide. (Dreyer)

What would the world be like without happiness? Would someone miss being happy if they never experienced it and if a choice was given would you alter your chosen happiness? These are all questions nozick intends to answer with his direction of happiness as well as his machine. Nozick talks about emotions and how they affect our world. He also talks about how emotionless people tend to be better off, so what would happen if we chose to pick neither of his choices. Would we better off or would we be worse off? This question will depend on whether or not Nozicks arguments are flawed, if they are than it would not make sense to choose either one. According to Nozicks experiments happiness is not all people consider when they live their lives because if it was just happiness than they would be content with the small amount of happiness they get. If Nozicks arguments are proven to be flawed, then I would choose to rebuff both while creating my own choice of how I would desire to experience my happiness.
Yukio Mishima’s The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea, is the story of three people: Fusako, a widow who owns her own luxury brand store, her son, thirteen-year old Noboru and a sailor Ryuji Tsukazaki. The novel examines the constantly evolving relationships among the three and explores their relations with ideas of glory, loyalty and even death. Many minor characters are also featured to complicate and characterize the protagonists. Mishima uses one character called Yoriko juxtaposed with the protagonist, Fusako to reveal conflicts that are not on the surface in order to comment on the dangers of westernization and modernity.
Ocean liners eventually came to a gradual end with improved air transportation and they had evolved to modern cruise ships (Rodrigue & Notteboom, n.d.) that carried themselves as the destination, instead of a transportation alternative. (Royal Caribbean International, 2013)

Have you ever visited a place so beautiful and serene that you couldn’t imagine a more stunning place? For me, it is the shimmering and flowing waters of the ocean. The way that the deep blue waters meet the gritty beige sand leaves me in such awe. The water is like a soft blanket, comforting and inviting. The unique wildlife and vegetation that exists on the beach is something I’ve never seen anywhere else. There is no place more beautiful and thrilling than the beach.
