We know the law as trustworthy and dependable, but what we see at Shawshank prison is the guards and Warden doing more bad things than some of the prisoners that are in the prison. Shawshank Redemption heroism together with evil through individuality were highlighted against the stereotypes civilization holds. We might anticipate figures akin to the warden along with the guards to be heroic individuals but yet we are shown different after viewing the film. A similar thing is revealed with a couple of the prisoners. This illustrates us the way society expresses law enforcers as good and prisoners as evil. Shawshank pushes these stereotypes. Though the prison was full of its own display of fraudulence and hypocrisies, the characters in which

Shawshank Redemption was a movie that really made you think. It made you think about how you judge people in society. We’ve all done bad things in our life, maybe not to the extent as these prisoners but we are given a second chance. Shawshank Redemption does an amazing job at taking stereotypes we are all aware of and challenging them and completely flipping them around.
I feel that this book gives a rough, inspiring and passionate warning that the rush to imprison offenders hurts the guards as well as the guarded. Conover reminds us that when we treat prisoners like the garbage of society, we are bound to treat prison staff as garbage men -- best out of sight, their own dirt surpassed only by the dirt they handle. Conover says in one part of his book, “Eventually admitting that being in a position of power and danger brings out a side of myself I don’t like.” I feel both prisoners and officers deserve better.
In The Shawl, Cynthia Ozick uses descriptive details to engage the reader. The story describes the horror of Nazism. The setting of the story is a concentration camp. The three main characters are Rosa, who was a mother of two daughters, Stella who was fourteen and Magda who was fifteen months. The plot of the story surrounds a magic shawl. The shawl is a major part of the complication, climax and resolution of the story. The magic shawl is the only thing the three starving women have keeping them alive and eventually leads to their demise. The plot of The Shawl ends with a camp guard tossing the infant Magda onto an electrified fence.
But it was a perturbing film, based on themes of homosexuality, abject poverty and debilitating sickness which culminated in the death of one of the principal characters.
Typically, a criminal is someone who breaks a law established by an organized society. Historically, law-makers become unethical making laws that no longer reflect the majorities’ moral code, but instead reflect the society’s morally perverted standards. In this corrupted society, the criminal becomes someone who uses the new laws to evade punishment for moral atrocities. The motif that stands out the most in the book are the ducks in central park. The ducks help us understand that Holden doesn't want to grow up, he wants to stay a little innocent child. In The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, the author presents three symbols that all reinforce the main idea of the novel. The main idea that reoccurred throughout the novel is that people don’t have to let their mistakes or circumstances determine who they are or what they become; it’s all in how one interprets life. Many symbols may seem as just an ordinary character or coincidental object to some readers, but the symbols have a deeper, underlying meaning. Although there are many symbols in this book, there are three that really help support the main idea: Hester Prynne’s scarlet letter, the meteor, and Hester’s daughter Pearl.

Over the years there have been many movies written about prison but the most prominent in my mind is Frank Darabont’s, The Shawshank Redemption. Throughout the film there are many examples of the falsities of prison life. There are some elements of truth but they are out weighed by the misconceptions. Numerous prisoners are allowed to walk around the prison and the prison yard with no guards in sight. In actuality there are always guards around, especially on the inside. The prisoner’s movement through the prison is highly restricted.
This was a day filled with nothing but horror. Ozick takes her perspective by portraying her characters Rosa, Stella, and Magda, in such a way that the terror could personally be felt. At the beginning of the story, Ozick states, “Stella carried Magda. But she was jealous of Magda.” This shows that the conditions they were living in were so bad that it caused them to crave the comfort of an infant. Ozick symbolizes the horror that took place through the characters Rosa and Magda as an example of what took place in the Holocaust.
As I was sitting home on a rainy day I watched the movie, The Shawshank Redemption that starred Tim Robbins as Andy and Morgan Freeman as Red. The movie is about a banker name Andy Dufresney who is sent to prison for murdering his wife and her lover that he claims he did not do. In prison Andy became friends with a black prisoner name Red. One day while in the laundry room Andy overheard one of the guards (Guard Hadley) talking about taxes on an inheritance he’s about to receive. Andy told guard Hadley how he could avoid paying so much in tax money. After he helped save Guard Hadley a lot of money, it didn’t take long for the word to spread about how good Andy was with finances. Soon other guards at Shawshank and other prisons came to Andy for financial advice. Once Warden Norton learned of this he made Andy launder money under an alias name Randall Stephens.
