Monsanto Monsanto is for a lot of people the great evil in the agrochemical and agricultural biotechnology because of the genetically engineered (GE) seeds, field where the company is the leader worldwide. The number in this industry has been growing pretty fast and the expectations for 2020 are very positive, with a 250 Billion US Dollars industry. Over 20 years, Monsanto followed a strategy based on growing through mergers and acquisitions such as Agracetus or Pharmacia & Upjohn. In the agrochemical and (GE) industry the main competitors are DuPont, Bayer and he Dow Chemical Company. Nonetheless, Monsanto shift from predator to possible prey, as a result of the interest of Bayer, the powerful German company, to buy Monsanto. Bayer offered 122 US dollar per share in the previous proposition. However, it was refused and on last Thursday, Bayer increased the offer to 125 US Dollar per share. In addition, the German company proposed to Monsanto an antitrust contract where Bayer will pay over 1,5million US Dollar in case the authorities do not allow the deal. …show more content…
