1.0 Abstract With today’s development of society, an increasing number of people focus on natural resources and sustainable, restaurants are seeking a new way to establish a sustainable strategy. The case study describes sustainability and analyze its impact within the industry, using McDonald’s as main case study. 1.1 Background information McDonald’s was started from a Bar-B-Q in 1940, and then it more and more people like it and it has more and more kind of food, so it was founded a restaurant in1948. with the development of restaurants, nowadays it already operates in 119 countries (224 countries in the world) and it had more than 36,000 restaurants worldwide. For the instance, sustainable hospitality industry included technological innovations (such as low flush toilets and special shower heads to save water) and energy-saving equipment (such as special systems for heating, ventilation and air conditioning). In 1974 the United Kingdom corporation was established and in 1971 the Germany corporation was established, currently the combined corporation has over 900 restaurants and close to 50,000 employees in each of these countries (Royle, 1999).
As a company, McDonald’s was first introduced in Des Plaines, Illinois in 1955. This was the very first McDonald’s restaurant, which all started in San Bernardino, California in 1954 when Ray Kroc approached the McDonald brothers with a business proposition to start a new company. In 1965 McDonald’s went public and was later, in 1985 added to the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
