For a decade the hotel industry is trying to implement a strategy to help with sustainability. Water, electric, gas is highly generated every day in hotel rooms. The Deliotte Game changers or spectators article (2015) stated that Hospitality is vulnerable to water shortages, relies heavily on built assets, and consumes significant amounts of electricity and, generally speaking, is an item on which spending is discretionary. This is the case because when people travel they do not pay attention to how much energy or water they are actually consuming. A good example is the Kimpton Hotels where they begin their sustainability mission inside the hotel and expanding it to the whole society. Kimtpon has been eco-conscious since they began recycling trash since 1981(Berezan, Millar, Raab, 2014). Kimpton Hotels developed an EarthCare program, which offers variety of eco-friendly services and amenities. Their eco-friendly services includes providing guest with luxury, eco-friendly bath amenities, their rooms and linens cleaned with eco-friendly cleaning products, and having a towel and linen reuse program. This paper will discuss the five environmental factors that influence global and domestic marketing decisions that organizations must make. These five environmental factors are technology, demographics, government, culture and economics. Companies are affected differently by these factors depending on the industry they are in and the size of the organization. I will be using the Washington Plaza Hotel to illustrate how these environmental factors affect the hotel industry's marketing decisions. The Washington Plaza Hotel is a hospitality business located in Washington, DC. They offer services such as lodging, restaurant, bar, catering and meeting space rental. The Washington Plaza Hotel's major customer base is government, tourist, non-profit organizations, local businesses and some corporate clientele. Let's now take a look at how these environmental factors affect the marketing of the hotel.
