According to Pope Francis, “Any harm done to the environment, therefore, is a harm done to humanity” (UNDISPATCH, 2016), but it can imply that people should attend in sustainability in a long term. A sustainable city is developing and providing the things that society need without a negative effect on the next generation. Reference Framework for Sustainable Cities (RFSC), which consists of economy, society and environment, is one of the methods to help a city to approach with sustainability. However, these have to generate or balance with each other (Pearson, 2015). Toronto is one of the cities that have made progress in becoming a sustainable city.

One of the strongest environment cities in policies is Toronto (“Living in Toronto”, n.d.). The first factor that creates this success is air quality. The AQI of Toronto is the range 0-50 or a good quality in air pollution level (Real-time Air Quality Index, 2017). As people can see in Toronto, there are countless plans to become an urban area. One significant plan is TransformTO. According to TranformTO (2016), the main purpose is decreasing emission and using greenhouse gas at least 80 % from now to 2050. This project consists of 2 development terms: initially, in 2017-2020, or a short-term approach and another one, in 2020-2050, or a long-term approach (Change is in the air, 2007). If this plan succeeds, it will directly benefit to Toronto citizens, especially their healthy in a long term. When citizens are healthy, they will want to live in there instead of going out to others. A furthermore part of success of environment in Toronto is energy. According to Tocore Planning Downtown (n.d), although, in 2011, the Environment and Energy Division predicted that the energy of Toronto in 2040 will be pretty bad and get worse 5 times than in 2011 from using air conditioners in summer season, now, the situation is changing. One part that is a good management is newcomers or immigrants. Obviously, newcomers in Toronto seem to increase every year. It becomes one huge part to enhance the city. According to Toronto Newcomer Offices (n.d.), there is a newcomer arrangement which is a framework between the Toronto Newcomer Strategy and the Toronto Refugee Resettlement Program. This office will manage newcomers to be balanced proportion (Toronto Newcomers Strategy). It is good to have a plan like this can manage immigrants appropriately without any effects on employment rate of its citizens because the government will provide suitable occupations for its newcomers. Moreover, another section that makes achievement of society in Toronto is public transportation. According to Tripadvisor (n.d.), there is a system called The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) is the third largest public transit system providing more convenient life not only to citizens but also to the tourists who come to travel in the city. This project show rapidly growing and strong plans to develop public transportation in Toronto which will have a lot of benefits for citizen life.
