Everyone has their favorite television series or movie that they love. There are certain factors in these shows and movies that make them enjoyed by many. The show Criminal Minds is a popular series that has been on CBS since 2005. It is still running strong today on its 13th season. Some of the factors that make this series so successful are the cast members, the genre, suspense, and even educational value. The show revolves around a special group of Federal Bureau Investigations agents. In fact, the agents are given the title of Special Agent. Each agent brings a unique experience from their past to the group. For example, an ex-policeman, a young prodigy genius, and a computer expert to decipher any program. These agents form what is …show more content…
The drama part of the show is through the lives of the characters. During different episodes, the audience gets a look into the personal sides of the members of the behavioral unit. There have been emotional stories of agents facing marital troubles because of their jobs. Members have seen spouses killed or found children they did not know they had. The tragedy of drug addiction affecting one of the agents has also been played out. Several cast members were killed off the show from which added to the drama. The audience gains insight into the emotional and physical difficulties as an FBI agent. As a result, the audience is pulled into the story even more as the agents work through personal issues and still face the prospect of putting away a dangerous criminal. The suspense part of the show is waiting until the end of the show to find out who is the suspect. The audience is not shown who the criminal is until the end. This gives the viewer the chance to go through the clues with the cast and try to figure out even before they do who the unsub really is. The show will give the audience a few small clues that the agents have not found yet to help in learning the identity beforehand. The suspense is then heightened towards the end to see if the suspect is caught or if anyone gets hurt in the

Hitcock states, "Every maker of mystery movies aims at getting the audience on the edge of their seats. The ingredient to keep them there is called "suspense." Producers cry for it, writers cry in agony to get it, and actors cry for joy when they do get it. I've often been asked
But unlike an average murder mystery there wouldn't be an awful lot of people around to be suspects, as only the two stepdaughters and their father were in the house. Although there wasn't a lot of atmosphere after the opening part of the story, as there is just a woman telling

Suspense, used to change the story drastically, prevents “The Most Dangerous Game,” from seeming too predictable and boring. Author, Richard Connoll, creates suspense by conveying unsettling emotions that the audience can relate to and that give a false sense of predictability. The title of this story, a major factor of suspense, tells the audience exactly what will happen. The interior suspense gives hidden meaning to the title and adds many twists to its foreboding plot. The element of suspense, leaving audiences guessing about future events, allows the audience to get emotionally involved in the story line.

Development of Suspense by Hitchcock in Psycho 'Psycho,' the somewhat infamous film by Alfred Hitchcock was produced in 1961, a time when the American censors, The Hays Office, still dominated the film industry with their strict rules and principles. It earned its notoriety by defying the traditional cinematic convections of that time and pushing the boundaries of what could be shown in mainstream cinema. The rules implemented by The Hays Office were far stricter than they are today, and Hitchcock uses all available means to reach and go slightly beyond the set limit. Using clever and different camera angles, he implies things that are not shown. He proves that innuendoes can portray the same image and retract the same audience responses as blatant actions and pictures.
Their family may struggle to get through some problems and some of their gender roles do not meet the traditional way, but they always make it work the best they can (p.115). They are not judgmental, have values, and everyone love each other (p.34). I love that the characters do not always get along and everything is not perfect. When I am a little older, I want to adopt a few children and this show expresses to me a different perspective and objection of life growing up in the foster system with parents that are different (p.35). I have not seen anything on this show that is not relatable to a common family or someone I do not
I choose this topic because I believe it is important to know why serial killers have been around for hundreds of years. If there were more studies on them then I believe we may be more able to prevent their vicious killings. If there are several things in common between several different serial killers then it would be safe to say that those things can be predictors of what is to come. If for example, I researched all of the serial killers in the last twenty years and they were all beaten as children and had alcoholic parents, then it would seem that beating children and having alcoholic parents is certainly a common factor and may predict their future. So in my paper I will come up with a detailed profile and common themes between the serial killers in the last twenty years.
Graham’s character represents the struggle Douglas went through when diagnosed with viral encephalitis. Many television shows have also adopted creating characters off the famous John Douglas. Criminal Minds includes another well known television show to use characters to represent Douglas. Criminal Minds’ first season aired in 2005, and now 13 seasons later, the show continues to dedicate itself to show how the Behavioral Analysis Unit works. The show uses the terms created by Douglas and Ressler in every episode and viewers can see how agents are able to look at murders and other crimes and create a profile to identify the killer.
Crime fighting is incredibly time consuming and can be immensely complicated. As I mentioned before, shows will often lead the viewer on to think that one person does all the work at a crime scene. In reality, the process goes more along these lines: When a call is made that needs assistance, a uniformed officer will be the first one on scene. He will do his job of securing the area and making sure any other threats have been neutralized. If he needs, he will call for detectives to come and investigate as well as interview any witnesses in the area. Shortly thereafter, crime scene units will show up and help in recovering physical evidence such as prints or traces of DNA. Following all of these different units and people arriving, the scene and evidence needs to be photographed, documented, and chronicled. Every single member of the team will record his or her own take on the scene by filling out paperwork (Fact vs. Fiction). The bottom line here is that television is
The main characters working to prevent crimes all share one common connection. John Anderton (from Minority Report) son disappears and is implied to have been murdered. John Reese, and Harold Finch from Person of Interest also both have people important to them have
Joseph Straubhaar (2009) stated that television genres continue to develop over time in response to changes in audience tastes and original creative ideas. Indeed, television genres will keep on developing to meet the expectations and satisfaction of the audience. Crime drama series have become one of the most popular television genres within our society. It attracts the audience by dealing with themes and issues relating to the news and current affairs that the viewers are aware of. Crime fiction has various sub-genres including detective fiction such as Monk (2002-2009) where a detective investigates and solves a crime. Furthermore, Law & Order (1990-2010) represents the legal thriller and courtroom drama sub-genres as these crime dramas focus more on the struggles of the law and deal with many criminals such as rapists, murderers etc...and the strain of defending the innocent people.
Movies, tv shows, internet, and video games are the most popular types of entertainment and are also packed full of drama. People thrive on the drama and can not get enough. For instance, reality television shows are very popular and give the audience a sense of drama in their own lives. The television show The Walking Dead is filled with drama and suspense. This show is one of the most popular shows in the world. Characters get into relationships, fight, kill zombies, and many times die. People enjoy watching the drama and getting an escape. It is just one of hundreds of shows on TV that are drama filled. These forms of entertainment give people something to talk about when they feel their life is too boring.
I am highly interested in the show because upon the start of the episode I am sitting on the edge of my seat trying to figure out the offender and how the offender is going to kill the victim(s). Many of my friends tease me because I am incapable to handle the sight of blood, yet alone the sight of a dead body, but I am captive in attempting to understand what drives in offender to commit crimes. I believe that I am captive by this crime drama because of the interrogations that happens upon finding the Unknown Subjects. I am someone aspiring to become a lawyer, and I am intrigued to watch public servants either follow proper protocol or use the any means necessary tactic. For example in Season 1, a police officer had a federal undercover police officer as a friend. This police officer almost risked his career as a public servant to turn off the cameras in the interrogation room, and assault the offender to receive information about the location of his federal undercover police officer. In my opinion, Criminal Minds always grabs my undivided attention because I am able to learn the importance of respect to jurisdiction. Simply meaning that I am learning that public servants do not appreciate the higher authority coming in and calling
