Surviving the Holocaust Overcoming obstacles in life can be challenging for everyone. Even in tough times like war and other conflicts, something can be done to stop it. This is especially true for the people who survived the Holocaust, which was run by Adolf Hitler. Some people in the Holocaust were able to figure out how to overcome the torture they were treated with, but others were not as lucky and millions of people were murdered. To escape, people had to find the strength that they had inside of them and fight to survive. Elie Wiesel receives strength from fear. Magda Herzberger demonstrates strength through times of conflict by proving to others that through the power of religion and faith, anything is possible and forgiveness can be given to anyone. Magda was 18 at the time when she saw Nazis herding her and other Jews from their neighborhood onto trucks, headed towards a ghetto. She was scared and did not know what was going on. She would later find out what she would be forced to do in the camps. According to the article “Holocaust survivor shares powerful story of hope” Magda Herzberger states “I think my great trust in God was my source of survival,” she said. “Regardless of what I experienced in the camps, and all those terrible things, I’m still a loving and forgiving person.” Magda shows how having faith in religion can help anyone get through tough times, even like war. Even though Magda was tortured by the Germans at such a young age, she was able to stay strong and survive to tell the tale and even forgive them for what they did to her and millions of others in the
