Surviving The 24 Hour E-Media Blackout
I was astounded by the amount of difficulty I encountered during this 24 hour period of time. Never did I think it would be that difficult to put the phone down, turn the television off, relax and just read a book. I faced a variety of struggles during this journey that made me realize the dramatic impact electronics, social media, internet etc. have on my life. This includes in the way I think, the way I communicate with others and my being overall.
After graduating high school, I learned who my real friends were. I was left with only a few close friends. This meaning, I have always said the phrase, ''I do not use my phone because I have no friends''. Therefore, I thought this …show more content…

have converted some of us into nosey judgmental people including myself. A million thoughts now began to form in my mind and it took me back to being at the store. The only reason I was confronted in Walmart was because they wanted to continue to spread the gossip. They didn't care to see me or my presence at all. Then it struck me that they never even said hi to me.
This leads into problem three, communication. I have always been made fun of because of the fact that I have my phone with me 24/7. So, my family was thrilled at the idea of no phone or television for 24 hours. They even hid my phone so I wouldn't cheat. Although, my little sister decided to join me in this journey. I was extremely relieved because we are always together and her being on the iPad was not helping me fight my temptations what so ever. This also made me realize that Mr. Puklin was absolutely right.
The majority of the time my sister and I will sit in our rooms and send each other pictures of cats and think we're actually having a conversation. Sentences and words have turned into abbreviations and short answers. People don't talk about their feelings anymore, they just post pictures. I know a picture is worth a thousand words, but don't you think your point would get across more easily if you explained it …show more content…

She came up with the idea of reading. I was not quite excited but there was not much we could do anyway so we went through her closet in search for some books. After another 30 minutes of searching her entire room and mine as well we then realized we don't have any. All we found were coloring books! Then, it occurred to us that when we want to ''read'' we just go on Youtube and search the audiobook for what ever book it is we wanna hear.
