The film gives a sense that something about education is correlated to health. First, from my point of view education does not just give us our economic status, yet the understanding of the world and the social behavior instead of the individual when concerns to health choices. Having an education people will have a better view of certain situations, so they can make better choices. According to Nana Krieger a social epidemiologist, “Among twins who lived together until age eighteen, who basically grew up in the household, so had at least a relatively similar exposure, if they diverged late in life, if one became professional, and the other was working class they ended up with different health status as adults. This is among identical twins.”(Page 1) Unnatural Cause- In other words, even if you had same childhood as your siblings, the education level will determine your health. A reason why education provides us with a good health because a person who is graduated from university will have a better life style compare to high school graduated. Consequently, education is linked to a healthy life because educated people tends to have more opportunities in order to have a healthy lifestyle than working class people. Thus, people with college degrees tend to live longer. Education is the door to many different factors that positively enforce a better health. Education …show more content…
Having a good income liberates some extra stress from people’s lives. In the film, the narrator compares people with different income status, the narrator interviews these two different families in order to observe how income can influence people’s health. According to the narrator, “In some areas, people die twice, and five, even ten years sooner than in others. Cancer and heart disease are almost twice the rate in some areas as in others.” (Page 2) Unnatural Cause-the narrator observes two districts in Louisiana; one area is populated of low income working class, and the other one the contrary. The narrator is interviewing Jim Taylor a sixty year old man who is CEO of a hospital. During the interview Taylor opinions about the benefits of living in a community of effluents. Such as, having less stress, being able to exercise without being afraid of being assaulted. In contrast, to a person who lives in working class community is harder to have a healthy lifestyle because of the lack of time, security and desires. Pertaining to desire, working class people have to work long hours in factory to earn at least 20,000.00 per year, so they end their days extremely tired. Furthermore, wealthy peoples can afford a better quality of nutrition. Thus, people with a low income prefer to buy foods according to the quantity instead of quality. In fact, social stress is the more common
I chose not to use any of the prompts provided, but instead connect the article to what I learned in my sociology class lass quarter. In class we watched part one of film series of Unnatural causes, titled Unnatural Causes: Is Inequality Making us Sick "In Sickness and in Wealth". While reading the article this reminded me about the cases studied in the film to see whether wealth inequality contributes to making people sick. In the film they focused on the social determinants of health, wealth and education. In both the article and part one of the film Unnatural Causes they focused on three different individuals and how their health are affected by they choices they make and the access they have to care.
In chapter 2, of Essentials of the U.S Health Care System, Shi and Singh both talk about focusing on determinants to improve health. Having adequate health insurance for everyone is a great start to improving one’s health, but the bigger issue is addressing the needs of the people who have low income or the needs for different ethnic groups. In the documentaries, Bad Sugar, Becoming American, Collateral Damage and In Sickness and In Wealth, they all touched on social determinants. It did not matter if you lived in the United States, a third world country or a reservation, they all expressed a need the can better their health.
...stic things in order to live a better, more sound, and overall healthier life. Juxtaposition makes the audience want to follow through with the purpose. Exemplification causes the audience to realize the extent of their materialistic nature. A definition of the average homeless person’s terms allows him to build his ethos and consequently allow the audience to believe and follow his purpose. A majority of people are a part of the middle class, and this majority tends to judge the poor for their lifestyle whether it be through Dumpster diving or begging on the streets. However, as proven by the essay, these people have no right to do so because the poor do, in reality, have a greater sense of self than these middle-class people, similar to the rich. The middle-class citizens must no longer act the victim; instead, they should be working on becoming more sentimental.
Social determinants of health (SDOH) are increasingly becoming a major problem of Public Health around the World. The impact of resources and material deprivation among people and populations has resulted in an increase in mortality rate on a planetary scale. Social determinants of health are defined as the personal, social, economic and the environmental conditions which determines the health status of an individual or population (Gardner, 2013). Today’s society is characterized by inequalities in health, education, income and many other factors which as a result is becoming a burden for Public Health around the world. Research studies have shown that the conditions in which people live and work strongly influenced their health. Individuals with high levels of education and fall within the high income bracket turn to have stable jobs, live in the best neighborhood and have access to quality health care system than individuals who have low education and fall with the low income bracket. This paper is to explain different social determinants of health and how they play ...
Social determinants of health are the conditions in which people are born, grow, work, live and age, and the wider set of forces and systems shaping the conditions of daily life. These focuses and systems include economic policies and systems, development agendas, social norms, social policies and political systems. (WHO, 2016). In the video, various social determinants of health were being portrayed. They include aboriginal status; how aboriginal people are treated and how this treatment contributes to the economic status and health status of aboriginal people. Education, as aboriginal schools receive less funding from the government. Housing, as aboriginal people are forced to live in unsuitable reserves. Social exclusion and social safety net as aboriginal people are excluded from society. The social determinants of health are what contributes to the attributes of social justice. This problem also led to a larger and broader issue in society that includes the attributes of social justice. Social justice problems such as human and civil rights that includes sexism and racism. Equity in which the distribution of society’s wealth is not distributed fairly and results aboriginal people receive less of society’s wealth. Equity refers to fair shares. (CNA, 2010). It also leads to poverty as they experience lack of access to basic needs such as food, water, clothing and shelter. It also led to higher suicide rates and increase rate of aboriginal people in federal prisons. It also contributes to many health issues such as 42% of aboriginal children lack dental care, tuberculous rate four times higher and diabetics rate three times higher. Most of all it has led

In this essay I plan to analyze a dangerous disease that is infecting people through the U.S. This disease is called affluenza it is very contagious and once infected with the disease it is difficult to unseat. Affluenza us characterized as an unhealthy relationship with money, swollen expectations and trying to keep up with the Joneses. Affluenza creates stress, bankruptcies, and causes problems in relationships. Although, there are some people who have a different definition for affluenza. Many people find affluenza to be a rich man's disease and have responded by suggesting that the world has bigger problems without have to feel sorry for the rich. I would contend that affluenza that affluenza can be cured and maybe prevented. In analyzing affluenza I hope to shed insight those possibilities.
Education is a major factor for the development of an individual and can have a large impact on a person’s health. Education and health are closely linked and can either change a person’s life for the better or worse due to the lack of education or having a sufficient education.
Then, in the beginning part of the film, I found there is a big flaw when Mr. Gibney pushes to demonstrate that the wealth breeds hardness and cynicism. A large portion of the country’s wealthiest individuals is likewise its most liberal, but he disregards that for an unstable looking study including the board game Monopoly. Then it talked about that parents in the Bronx would be glad for their children to have good health, security, playing space and an education, however the open doors are regularly reducing, whilst the kids at the highest point of the social ladder are being readied to succeed to the earth. Moreover, be that as it may, the film's implicit charges against the extremely rich people went much further, connecting them to American ills, for example, imbalance and confined social versatility. The expressed thought was to contrast Manhattan's elegant Park Avenue and another road of the same name in the close-by South Bronx, where hardship is overflowing.
Society at large had such a great part to play in my situation. (Mills, 2000) It is the one that had brought this poor state. For instance, the society and the community did not actually realize that most of its people were in need and hence had taken this to be a norm. Working so hard and earning little was the way of life. Therefore, the society had made us feel comfortable in that state that we were in, and I believe that it was how people at some point lived even if they became rich later.
Most of these articles also argued that healthy policies by themselves cannot achieve the expected health improvement.1-3,7-13 This is why the US healthcare access cannot be improved without paying attention to the social and environmental needs of the poor Americans, who in most cases are at the receiving end. The social determinants of health can only be improved through actions targeted at the factors that improve life.1-3,4-5 Government policies should be translated into actions that are centered on enhancing the conditions in which people live, work, play, and grow.1,3,12 The situation that people are born into should not control their destiny, access to healthcare or other opportunities in life, because it will be then unfair and unjust. 1-3,7-13

...ght feel stressed. They might have to live in unsanitary or overcrowded living conditions. So they are more likely to get illnesess and diseases. They are likely to live in polluted areas. They have an increased risk of dying young. They may feel excluded from the society because of their social class. An individual’s lower social class, gender can affect their job opporunites. Some sports or activities are seen as appropriate for either male or female. A child’s gender can affect the types of toy that given to play with or sports they play at school. The individuals with low income or lower social class are likely to have poor diet and unhealthy life style as they are not able to buy good quality food like others. They are also likely to get so many diseases and illness from that such as diarrhea, obesity, cancer, diabetes and high blood pressure and cholesterol.
Money is an essential part of life where every people can satisfy whatever they need and every person in America has a chance to find a job. However, some of the people in the country wanted to go on with their life freely by being a part of a welfare. Furthermore, distribution of wealth is a huge demand of every citizen. Everyone today is trying to look down for every people in the lower class, as they did not give any benefit to the country, waiting for the benefits that they will receive from the government. For instance, when most lower class people have gone through a financial crisis due to overspending, insufficient fund or pay for their work to support themselves and/or their family. The example shows that lower class people made the economy of the country unstable, however, the middle class and the higher class is at fault as well. Furthermore, even though the benefit of that the lower class received is from the middle class, the middle class as well benefits from the higher class. To sum up, every class is at fault towards giving the country’s economy a positive
