There are many superheroes in the world with many different abilities. Many people would argue that many heroes are connected by some point or another. Though it is true that there are several correlations between the hero Beowulf and Superman, also known as Clark Kent, there are also quite a few differences. Beowulf is the hero of the of an old English epic passed down form word of mouth. On the other hand, Superman is a comic character in the DC universe. Even though Beowulf and Superman’s stories vary drastically they are similar in their travels and abilities.
One major similarity between Beowulf and Superman is their battles with supernatural foes. For example, Beowulf defeated the monstrous Grendel, a dragon, and Grendel’s mother. Similarly, superman had several fights with the invaders from Krypton. The battles are related in many ways such as their fighting style. The heroes in both battles only use their fist in battle, that is if the opponent

only uses fists. Although Beowulf and Superman fought fairly, both heroes used weapons at some point. Beowulf used a sword in his fight with Grendel’s mother and Superman threw various objects at the soldiers. The heroes also fought the battles for others rather than for themselves. Another similarity is their superhuman abilities.
The heroes have most of the same abilities with some variations. For example, Superman has these abilities: shoots lasers from his eyes, x-ray vision, and superhuman hearing. Although Superman has more abilities than Beowulf, they share the abilities of strength and speed. In “Man of Steel” and “Beowulf”, the heroes are shown to be superhumanly strong in various scenes such as in Beowulf’s fight with Grendel and Clarks childhood bus crash. During the fight, Beowulf tears Grendel’s arm from his body with his bare hands. Similarly, during Superman’s childhood, the bus that he was riding in had its tire blow and caused it to crash into a river, reacting to this situation Clark saved everyone. In the same scene, where Grendel’s arm gets ripped off, it states that Beowulf moved with such speed that Grendel didn’t even know what had happened. Superman exhibits these abilities in the movie during the flying scenes where you can see and hear that he breaks the sound
barrier. One of the most distinct differences between these characters is their noble births. Although both characters did have a noble birth, they are quite different. For example, Beowulf is the son of a prestigious warrior and the nephew to the King of Geatland. On the other hand, Superman is the son of two quite ordinary Kryptonians. The reason that Clarks birth is so noble is the fact that it was natural. Natural births are obsolete on Krypton because of the codex, thus making the birth quite special. Though Superman’s birth is special, Clarks parents are not kings, queens, or valiant warriors making Clarks birth anything but noble. While Beowulf whose father was a valiant warrior and uncle who was a great king is the very definition of a noble birth. In conclusion both characters are quite similar in foes and abilities, yet differ in their birth. The heroes both fight adversary of supernatural strength and possess similar powers. Also, the abilities the characters have are quite similar such as their strength and speed. Though the characters have quite a few things in common, they have drastically different births. Heroes in older eras have greatly influenced today heroes and have only evolved a slight bit.
While fighting the Dragon Beowulf shows feats of strength and courage that define him as a hero. The classical hero displays a special quality that separates him from the rest of
society in which he lives. He apartment is purposely set on the opposite side of town
Beowulf embodies several respectable traits that make him an epic hero, but there is another hero that possesses even better traits. Her name is Diana, but is known as Wonder Woman; she comes from an island in the Amazons called Themyscira. Although Beowulf and Wonder Woman has similar qualities, there are several that make them different.
Batman and Superman are superheroes whose qualities are exaggerated in a way that is reminiscent of the gods and heroes in The Odyssey. In Fact, the superheroes from comic books emerge from the epic tradition. Epics, as you know, celebrate the great deeds of one or more legendary heroes. This epic hero is generally involved with a quest to overcome hardship, and he (and it usually is a "he") succeeds. The hero performs superhuman exploits in battle, often saving or founding a nation or the human race itself. Sound familiar? And even in terms of the superhero's body, with his bulging muscles and larger‐than‐life qualities, such figures evoke the images of Baroque masculinity. What Becomes important in these retellings, then, is how the hero makes the journey, how he faces his obstacles, and what he learns in the process.
This essay is the comparison between Beowulf and a modern day hero. I consider any American soldier to be my modern day hero. In this essay I will explain in three paragraphs of how my modern day hero is like Beowulf. With in these three paragraphs I will go over how they are both fighting for a good cause, how they are both rewarded for what they do, and how they are both treated with much respect.
Although Beowulf might have been a great warrior, usually people do not think that he is the greatest warrior from a story. Beowulf had the strength and the tactics to take down tons and tons of men on his own, but did not have the wisdom of other warrior figures. Beowulf was mainly strength and toughness, and sometimes a warrior needs to have some type of knowledge to ever be able to fight. A great example to Beowulf would be Luke Skywalker. Luke is in a story that is not the same type of story but, has the same concept. The only main difference would have to be the setting and the type of movie. Beowulf is a warrior that is considered super human and doesn't really belong anywhere, because he is not truly con...
There are many similarities between Batman- a modern day hero making use of his intellect, modern technology, and detective skills on crime and warfare and the classic hero, Beowulf- who travels great distances to prove his strength against his enemies, even at impossible odds. For example, the simplest being that they are both heroes working towards the common good, saving others without twice thinking of their own safety. However there are also many differences: obvious ones such as the fact they were born centuries apart, and subtle ones like the importance placed on humility with Batman versus self-confidence with Beowulf.
Superman, Spiderman, and Batman are heroes! They possess the two traits that are needed in western civilization to be considered a hero: wisdom and fortitude. These modern heroes have wisdom and fortitude. Did Beowulf possess these traits? Beowulf shows he is a hero through both his wisdom and fortitude throughout his adventures. Beowulf is a great hero because he possesses both wisdom and fortitude.
When being compared to the opening funeral of King Shield’s death, Beowulf’s funeral can be further interpreted as an elegy for warrior values. To begin with, the main similarity behind both funerals was the mood. The Danes respected their king, and the poet of Beowulf depicts this idea by stating, Shield “had courage and greatness. /… as his powers waxed and his worth was proved” (lines 2 and 8). King Shield provided a sense of security to the Danish nation, which established a specific image of what a proper authority figure looked like to the people. Since Shield “was one good king”, his death left the Danes with the devastated realization there may never be that form of heroic leadership ruling their country again (11). Using similar word choice, Beowulf’s poet describes a similar connection between
Heroic qualities are traits that every epic hero should have. The heroic qualities that Beowulf and Martin Luther King shared are the want to achieve something better for themselves and others. These epic heroes have lived life boldly and have died in honor of their quest to achieve greatness. Both made the sacrifice and the fight to help or fight to protect their way of life but in the end made the sacrifice of their life. Martin Luther King relates to Beowulf for the bravery of fighting racial discrimination, the intelligence behind every march they did to draw the attention, the will to die to achieve the goals he worked for.
There are a lot of similarities between Superman and Hercules. For example, they’re both thought to be fantasy, have superhuman powers, have enemies to defeat. However, there are also many differences between these two types of hero, such as Superman often has to hide his powers, and that Hercules was less idealised than a modern superhero. Although there are similarities between the two types of hero, the differences are more important.
Gary Engle describes Superman as the ultimate American, “Superman is the greatest American hero” (Engle, 677). After reading three comic books I notice an occurring theme of wanting to protect what is good, even though the comic books chosen span over eleven years. Several distinct things to Superman’s personality are his cape, the respect he has for others, the respect others have for him, his intelligence, his protection of all life and what is right, his origin, and the sacrifices he makes. Superman is considered to be the greatest American hero of all time.
Societies construct heroes that represent and embody the ideals of those who create them and read about them. Their is a stark contrast between the hero in the time of Beowulf and Hamlet’s creation and heroes created in modern times. Current literature, movies, and television portray a different kind of hero from those created in 1000 AD to 1600 AD. A hero is defined as someone who is "admired for achievements and noble qualities"," shows great courage", and in historical texts such as Beowulf and Hamlet is a "legendary figure often of divine descent endowed with great strength or ability" or an "illustrious warrior" (Merriam-Webster). Despite the popular belief that the time for heroes has passed away, based on the needs of society, today's
A soldier and Beowulf are similar in many ways, for instance, they are both strong and brave. A soldier shows strength and bravery when he/she fights for the safety of our country by going to war against countries that mean us harm. Beowulf showed strength and bravery when he fought Grendel, a demonic monster who killed many of the Danes’ people. Unarmed and with the strength of just one hand, Beowulf was able to defeat Grendel. Throughout the poem, Beowulf fought in two more major battles; Grendel’s mother and a great dragon. Another similarity is that both, a soldier and Beowulf, are/were passionate about serving and protecting their people. Soldiers are dedicated to protecting those around them on the battlefield, as well as our society as a whole. Beowulf was not only dedicated to protecting his own people, but also those who had done right by his father.

In the modern era, the creation of superheroes have become popular when it comes to producing films. Viewers can choose their favorite heroes due to the idea that there a many of them.
