Movies are a new edition in today’s culture. They are a new form of art medium that has arrived in the late 1900s and were a new way to express ideas and viewpoints of the time. A good example of this is the movie The Manchurian Candidate. The movie had a simple plot a man is kidnapped after the Korean war and is hypnotized to work for the communists and take down the U.S. This movie showed the American public’s fear of communism at the time. If a movie like this can easily portray the fears of the American people at the time then it can easily portray stereotypes of gender. There have been thousands of movies where the male protagonist is a rough tough dude but there is one movie that has that stereotype is broken. That movie is none other than Napoleon Dynamite.
Men are looked at as brave, selfless people and are perceived as heroes all throughout society. Since then, there have been tons of superheroes created and two of the most popular superhero “universes” have been made. These two “universes” are called Marvel and DC. Many people have different opinions on these two universes and it even begins in arguments and debates; however, Marvel is the better “universe” because they really took superheros to the next level. Marvel came out with more and more creative superheroes as the years went by. Marvels best superhero is the Incredible Hulk because of his changing ability, physical abilities, and work efficiency.
Batman has always been my favorite superhero since I was very little, but even though he was my favorite I was always afraid of his villains and would even have nightmares of the joker, but now that I’m older… I still have nightmares about the Joker. Batman has some of the best and most iconic villains of all the super heros, and that’s one of the things that makes batman great. Some of the things that make his villains great are that they are some of the scariest villains, some are very smart and clever, and some are just great fighters.
Sometimes the biggest inspiration in your life stems from someone, or something who has little or no intentions to inspire at all. My neighbors Jack and Dorothy wake up every morning taking simple steps to do simple things, but to me it’s something way more. Dorothy veers around the age of ninety/ ninety-five. Unlike Jack, she takes her simple steps not in the house I grew up next to but in Marshall Manors Nursing Home. My father and Batman are both seen as heroes to me because they both share similar qualities such as bravery, perseverance, and understanding. For example, there was a time where my family went to the community park and we witness a brush fire started near the tennis courts. A lot of people were scared and didn’t know what to do but my father started getting jugs of water and started to try and put out the fire. My father was one of the only people who tried to put out the fire. Even though he knew he potentially could’ve gotten hurt, he still did it to protect others. Just like how Batman would protect the citizens of Gotham City from villains like The Joker, Bane or The Penguin. Batman knows he can potentially die facing off with these enemies but has the courage to do it anyways because he has to protect his city no matter what, like my dad trying to protect his family from the brush fire. Another characteristic he shares with Batman is his perseverance.
An age old argument between major superhero fans is who is the one that above all the numerous others. Traditionally the hero with the most power tends to rank the number one spot. However, when you delve into the true definition of what a hero is you tend to question your loyalty to the “big name” superheroes. The number one superhero should be the one that fits the description of a hero exactly.
