Superhero Me
We live in a world facing many serious problems. Even with things like terror attacks and world hunger I find pollution the worst problem of them all. Mother Earth has become a dumping ground for all the waste produced such as garbage, smog, and oils or harsh chemicals. Now imagine the world without any form of pollution. Can’t imagine it can you? If I could have any power, it would be the power to make anything I wanted disappear and let me tell you why. About 2.6 trillion pounds will be thrown away this year. Of the trash thrown away on Earth, 46% is organic waste, 27% is recyclable, and the other 27% is glass, metals, and other materials. This trash sits in dumps, on streets, and in the water. If all trash were to all just
Now from what I have read from this article is that this author is trying to target
We are currently living in the Golden Age of Superheroes. They dominate our cultural life, and have become seemingly permanent fixtures in modern media. Since X-Men burst onto the screen fifteen years ago, we have witnessed the release of over forty superhero movies. By 2020 we will have seen the release of more than twenty-five more. Today, the much anticipated film Superman vs. Batman has come to theaters. Though a plethora of superhero movies have been released, it is to the dissatisfaction of many, having long been exhausted by the stories of the Hulk, Batman, and Spider-man. Although I must agree that it is quite easy to get bored with the constant action, and flashing colors of these films, if one looks deep enough into the story they will discover universal themes and metaphors. Though they may be fighting off alien invasions, these heroes are also battling with their personal challenges, challenges which we can
If everyone recycled think of how much more space there would be in landfills across the world. There is only so much room on this earth and we are using a huge portion of it for our trash. Clearlake, California alone on a busy day can bring in 80,000 pounds of trash to the local dump. I know this because I work at the local dump in Mckinleyville. I also see a lot of people that throw away their recycling for the simple reason of being too lazy to sort it. I watch bag after of bag of plastic, aluminum, and glass get thrown into the bin which we haul straight to a landfill in Anderson, California. If everyone in Mckinleyville recycled there plastic, aluminum and glass they could save thousands of pounds a day from going to the landfill. I think people are not informed that waste is a big problem in this world. But in fact conservation is an issue, and resources and energy aren't too plentiful. Someday these resources are going to run out. But the more we recycle the longer we can make these resources last.
Superheroes. We’ve grown up with their stories of saving the day, dressed up as them for halloween and wanted to be just like them when we grew up. But something that I’ve always thought was extremely interesting about superheroes are they all wear masks. Whether they are saving the day or just out and about, they are always hiding a major part of who they are by putting on and taking off that mask on a daily basis. But when you think about, don’t we do that too? We constantly put on these masks to make us feel “cool” or to fit in. We are more comfortable putting on these masks rather than be who we truly are. Because if we took these masks off in front of others, just like superheroes, we have the fear of being thought of differently or judged for showing someone who we truly are.
Batman and Captain America the superheros without any real superpowers. Batman and Captain America are Marvel and DC's biggest icons fighting crime for the greater good. Batman A.K.A The Dark Knight and Captain America A.K.A The Winter Soldier are two of the most badbutt superheros nothing can stand in there way, but what if they were against each other? Well then you get a legendary fight! Let's compare the two.
From past to today, every period, people always like heroes. When wars started, or disasters happened, people always hope that a hero can stand out and help them escape danger. Washington is one of the war heroes, who helped American win the war of independence, and became the first president of America. He was fully respected in his life time, and also be popular even now. When people are living in peace, when the world does not need a hero, they would write poems and stories to create a hero as their wish. Greek mythology was created between seventh and eighth century, which was a peaceful time in Europe. Although people did not need a hero to save them, Greek still wrote the mythology to show their fantasy of heroes, such as Prometheus. Even nowadays, people are still imagining heroes in their lives. Superman is one of the heroes people created recently. In his story, he can do almost
A weakness is something an organism isn’t equipped to fight against. Such as fire to trees or bullets to humans. This includes non-living matter has such problems. A virus to a computer or a hammer to a nail. It seems like a matchup never to change. The nail cannot do anything to stop the hammer. That’s a similar feeling people have to their own weaknesses. It’s something that can never be overcome. Humans are more complex structurally than a nail. Meaning that so is our lives as well as our problems. In that case, we can take up a better stance against our problems. We are more than a nail to a hammer. Our species has survived by problem-solving all this time. It is the key to our success.
Unbreakable, persistent, fearless, are all words to describe teen activists. Without these words, they could not be called activists. These words are the foundation for change, and activists fulfill these words. Each activist has a story to tell, because the unbreakable, the persistent, and the fearless. Malala who fights for girl’s education, was shot in the head. Alex Lin, who recycles electronic waste, gave computers to schools without them. Iqbal Masih was forced into labor at only four, fought for kids who were just like him. They all bring change to the world.
We all know superheroes like Batman, Superman, and Spiderman, but what about female superheroes? In movies, women are usually damsels in distress, princesses, or the classic manic pixie dream girl. It is rare to see a woman play the leading role of an action movie, let alone a superhero movie. This stereotype of women being weak is what keeps women’s roles in society fixed. Movie producers and writers in Hollywood assume that they won’t profit if they have more women in leading roles. I believe that if more movies showed women in important roles, it would lead to more people seeing how strong women can be and it can also influence women and young girls to have more role models. By giving more women leading roles, it can change how they are perceived in society.
In America today we waste a lot of materials that can be recycled and re used. Most metals can be melted down and reused again. Almost all plastics today are designed to be recyclable. Wood can be recycled or it can even be used to make a fire. Food waste can be given to the homeless instead of thrown out. What if instead of taking your unwanted wood to the dump you give it to a homeless man to he...
Superheroes are a very common interest in our society. They impact people’s lives and make their audiences feel empowered. St. Ambrose University students of Media theory and ethics calculated data in order to find their results that correlated with their research questions. In my personal research, I chose a specific question. My research question is, “What are superhero movies teaching their audiences and has that alternated through the eras?” This question was chosen because growing up I have seen multiple superhero movies, but never put much though into them. After reading some interesting articles about how these types of movies can affect kids mentally, I wanted to explore more. During these next pages, you find the data that was collected
Among the highest-grossing movies of all time are numerous landmark films, such as Titanic, Avatar, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Taking their place alongside these cultural touchstones are mammoth blockbusters of a new breed: action-packed superhero epics. Each year, the number of superhero movies due for release seems to grow exponentially. One glance at a list of upcoming movies for this year reveals that the box office is absolutely saturated with superhero films. Some highly-anticipated installments feature heroes already well-acquainted with the big screen, such as Captain America and the X-Men, while others are introducing relatively unfamiliar characters to contemporary movie-going audiences, as in the cases of Doctor Strange and
According to the book, Recycle It! Once is not enough, “The world is filling up with garbage!” (Kallen 5) Each one of us are the only ones who can do something about this. Personally, since I began recycling, I have noticed that when trash day rolls around I put out half as much trash on the curb than before I started recycling. (credibility)
Therefore, recycling can protect natural resources, preserve energy and lessen pollution. If people want to save planet Earth for generations to come, then recycling is necessary. On Debate.org, the question “Should there be mandatory recycling?” was asked and 84 percent said yes, while only 16 percent said no (“Should There Be Mandatory Recycling”). Recycling is very important to the planet and can make a huge difference in so many ways. Recycling is a way of life and once a person has made the choice to follow through with the steps, recycling can become second nature. Every small contribution adds up to how the society shapes the Earth’s future. How will someone make a difference?
People should know the negative impact throwing away a water bottle or newspaper, purchasing meat from the grocery store or consuming gasoline has on the environment, and many do not. By informing society about how their decisions affect the environment, we can help save our planet and change our attitude toward the land we live on, the water we drink and the air we breathe” and truly show respect for the stuff that we depend on. The United States produces “about 8.25 billion tons of solid waste each year” (Russell 1). People do not realize the impact they have on our planet and the environment. When people throw anything in the trashcan, they are contributing to the destruction of our planet.
