For my analysis of an advertisement I chose to do NO MORE’s super bowl commercial on domestic violence and sexual assault. I decided to pick this particular ad to really pick apart how talking about/raising awareness of sexual assault and domestic violence are a serious problem in this world. I really wanted to focus on the strategies certain companies/campaigns attack this issue. As I was trying to find an ad for this assignment I was very nit picky and wanted to find something that would be impactful and something that I could really analyze. I think this ad is something that could go in various directions with lots of thought input put in to place. This ad was placed in the many commercials of the 49th Super Bowl in 2015, which is HUGE, …show more content…
However, because the ad was placed in the Super Bowl commercial and their space during commercial time is so limited it’s up to the big guys who run it. Its important for the NFL’s brand, especially with the occasionally scandals it gets, that they incorporate an awareness for domestic and sexual violence. In all, this type of advertisement raises awareness for big issues in our society today but also makes the NFL look good. The NFL would probably never have incorporated this ad if it weren’t for their players being in trouble years before with sexual and domestic abuse. This ad helps viewers know that they see a common problem and they want to change their viewer’s point of views on the way the NFL handles it all. Major factors in creating this video is the NFL while they incorporated a lot of money in making this production happen as it is. Another group of individuals is the people who work for the NO MORE …show more content…
The super bowl has one of the biggest TV viewing ratings all year long, “Last year’s Super Bowl on CBS drew 111.9 million viewers, making it the third-most watched broadcast in U.S TV history” (Pallotta Frank). This being said NO MORE’s organization seized the opportunity to make their voice heard in a sixty second video on one of the most viewed events all year. It also just so happens that conveniently amongst the various domestic and sexual violence issues the NFL has they place this ad in the Super Bowl, “Another player receiving scrutiny from NFL investigators for alleged domestic violence, other than Elliott, is about to play in the Super Bowl” (Pilon Mary). Although this video aired in the 49th Super Bowl this NFL player who is being investigated for domestic violence charges played in the 2017 Super Bowl. The NFL wants their viewers to know that they are handling sexual assault and domestic violence seriously with this type of advertisement placed so kindly in during the biggest game of the year. However, it really is just a big cover to prove to the world that they are “taking the allegations seriously” by trying to show case that their ways have
America’s newfound favorite pastime, football, came from a bizarre chain of events. Football started when a soccer player got fed up with just kicking the ball, so he picked up the ball and ran to the goal. His actions of picking up the ball and running with it fathered a new European sport, rugby, which was soon brought over to American shores, and was altered slightly, the shape of the ball and a few other small rules. The sport became organized into a league and produced the NFL(National Football League). The NFL had a slow beginning, but has picked up popularity, currently having a 9 billion dollar yearly revenue. Playing football comes with great costs, including physical and mental health deterioration, plus the amount of time spent prepping before game day. Which can pose several questions, “Why suffer for a game, Is it worth the money? Is it worth the fame? How great is the cost?” I believe that football, should have stricter regulations for the treatment of injuries, along with informing players of just how devastating a concussion can be, along with the other major injuries that commonly occur while playing football.
Playing football comes with several risks factors that players’ acknowledge prior to playing the game starting a young age. Regardless, these players still chose to play the game, which they end up loving and cherishing despite all the risks accompanied with it. Football is one of the toughest sports in the world; it takes a certain amount of strength, speed, and aggressiveness to play 48 minutes of hard-nosed football. However, the National Football League (NFL) is in the midst of a controversial issue. Is the NFL getting soft? This has been a debatable issue for several years. While some believe that implementing all these rules in the NFL is progressively turning the game soft, others say that the NFL is not getting soft; it is just trying to make the game safer for its players.
Super Bowl is one of the most watched American television broadcast. In 2011 Super Bowl become the most watched television program in the history with an average audience of 111 million. While Super Bowl get the attention of the audience and keep increased the viewership, the top company found their way to make commercial for their brand and products, and broadcast the commercial during the Super Bowl games domestically. Super Bowl commercial became a culture among the people. Most of the people even don’t watch the games but the commercial during the games. The top brand companies also start spending big chunk of money to make the best attractive commercial for their audience. Among those best polished commercial was the Chrysler automobile corporation commercial, which changed the public view of Chrysler, and did a great work by using pathos appeal to attract audience by stimulating their emotions.
Violence is everywhere in the United States of America. Many people in America and around the world have been a victim or know someone who has been a victim of violence. Over 22 million women in the United States have been raped in their lifetime according to the website, Victims of Crime. This number is significant. Advertisements could play a role in making violence more acceptable in our society. PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, is known for having shocking advertisements. This pro-vegan and pro-vegetarian nonprofit organization has always been a topic of interest. Many of PETA’s ad campaigns are related to sexuality, violence, discrimination against how people look, and dominance over women. There are many pro-vegetarian and pro-vegan ads that do not degrade women and still are persuasive. Jean Kilbourne writes about violence and the degradation of women in advertisements. Kilbourne explains her point of view in her piece, ‘“Two Ways a Woman Can Get Hurt’: Advertising and Violence.” Considering Kilbourne’s argument, PETA ads are a concern because of the suggested violence while other pro-vegan and vegetarian ads are not.
The longer that football was on television, the more intense the publicity for the NFL became. The Monday Night Football Logo showed to helmets hitting together forcefully, the NFL marketed the violence and captured the tension between violence and the art of football.
Kairos is defined as the significance of the time or occasion of the argument (Book). Viewing it right after the AFC Championship is a much different experience than it is viewing it at the start of the second NFL season after the scandal broke. When you think about it within the context of just a few days after the game it seems more reasonable than it is 2 seasons later. Knowing how much effort was put into the Deflategate case and how it almost went to the Supreme Court, one can see this situation as absurd. Also, knowing now that Brady has received a four game suspension and that Ray Rice (another player who committed domestic violence towards his wife) only served a two game suspension just 1 year before makes this entire case unfair. Also this cartoon was published before the movie Concussion came out. This movie sparked a lot of conversation about concussions and football. The cartoonist is hoping that the audience will understand his plea that the NFL focuses more on these issues of domestic violence and
...e commercial wants the audience to envy the lifestyle of Manning and make them wish they could be like him. Because this commercials target demographics are young high school students and early college students, it has a major impact on them and the commercial is very effective.
The Super Bowl is a game that has been and will continue to be watched and celebrated by almost every American. Friends and families gather to enjoy typical tailgating snacks, while watching the national football leagues. However, the game is not the only aspect of the Super Bowl that grabs society’s attention. Super Bowl commercials draw viewers in by using tactics that are never seen in an average commercial. As time increases and technology further develops, do Super Bowl commercials such as Kia’s “Hero’s Journey” use different tactics to try to grab America’s attention or do they waste their time and money as Bruce Horovitz believes?
Newcastle Brown Ale launched an advertisement during the 2015 Super Bowl. The audience for this advertisement was people watching the Super Bowl commercials. Since Newcastle Brown Ale is a beer product, the marketing team for Newcastle Brown Ale made a safe decision to air a new advertisement during one of the largest sporting events of the year.
Football, specifically NFL football, has become a staple of the annual holiday, something the NFL is keenly aware of.
The Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Indians did the best they could to update their followers on Twitter without the use of actual game footage. Instead, they created their own highlights using miniature football player figurines (Garcia, 2016). This display of mockery likely will not change things, and they surely did not think it would. However, it was a good way to raise awareness on this social media policy the NFL has enacted. This policy has annoyed many Twitter-friendly fans, myself included. The other three leagues allow teams to post video on their social media accounts and it greatly enhances the fan experience making it quick and easy to watch highlights from around the league. This is something the NFL now lacks, which they should realize is a disadvantage they now have compared to the other
When the U.S prepares for the Super Bowl, Americans become excited for two things, football and commercials. This February, the NFL had its 48th annual Super Bowl in conjunction with the highly anticipated commercials. There was one commercial released by a world famous soda producer, Coca Cola, which has created much controversy. Coca Cola took a unique take on the classic “America the Beautiful” song that has caused quite an uproar regarding prejudice, discrimination, and ethnicity in America.
...y they did this was by using hyperbole to such a point so as to make something stylish appear ludicrously funny. The repeated exposures to the service throughout the commercial also aids in selling the service. The time slot and channel for this commercial was also strategically planned so as to get the maximum exposure to the intended audience. There was no attempt to hide the blatant advertising. This was clearly meant to be seen as a commercial. However, the ethics were a bit on the shady side so as to make the deal seem better than it really was. The small print of the details makes it appear as though the company is trying to hide the truth and is shown only because it is mandatory. The rhetoric of this commercial is in short stating this commercial is meant to sell a service to young people through a comedic commercial while hiding the negative ethics.
The National Football League is made up of 32 teams that were once founded in 1920 by a group of people who helped form the league. In the beginning the league wasn’t really structured to what it is now. Teams will just play and no playoff games, seeding’s, or the game itself matter because not only was the game was overshadow by America’s past time baseball, but it was difficult because the college game was established as well. Owning a team was extremely hard because owner’s will spent large amounts of cash and participate in bidding wars for players. Fast-forward to today’s day and age it is safe to say the NFL may be the most brutal and exciting game to play. Rule’s and norms are intact for teams to do things more ethical. Money is what really drives this business and of course constant advertisement to promote its brand. With some of that revenue, the NFL has opened a program called NFL: Play 60. The purpose of this program is to encourage kids to be physically active for 60 minutes in a day to reduce America’s child obesity. The NFL has been successful because in 2010 the first lady Michelle Obama announced it would be teaming up with NFL PLAY 60 as a health imitative for children. This was a great move for the brand because The First Lady’s office and...
Football is the most obvious sport whose commercial value has been tainted by the actions of its players. While the game still attracts multimillion-pound investment from brands due to the massive media spotlight it enjoys, many are questioning the wisdom of their associations in light of a seemingly never-ending stream of negative headlines.
