For one to be a warrior they must live with honour, understand their responsibility, and train in defense and survival skills. In todays society, it is hard for people to meet these requirements outside of pop culture which results in people who have the warrior spirit but can’t necessarily meet all of the above requirements. If not many people meet the requirement than maybe it’s time that more warrior concepts are instilled into society. Using the strategies from Sun Tzu’s Art of War I’m going to highlight some ways that the warrior spirit can be renewed in society. Some of the quietest people have the best ideas but they often get talked over. If someone has a good idea they should be confident enough with it to speak up: “Therefore the clever combatant imposes his will on the enemy, but does not allow the enemy’s will to be imposed on him” (Chapter Six). In a modern imagining of this quote I feel like it is directed to quiet people who do not have the confidence to speak up about their ideas. If you know what you’re talking about than don’t let someone else take over your idea with their own thoughts. Execute your idea and watch them all wish that they had listened to your ideas earlier. “An army may march great distances without distress, if it marches through country where the enemy is not” (Chapter Six). Sometimes to get your ideas out there you’ll have to skirt around the problem and attack it from a different angle. If the person at the top doesn’t want to listen to you than maybe try to spread your idea throughout your co-workers until everyone is on your side. The top dog might be able to put aside the thoughts of one person, however dismissing everyone would lead to mutiny. Sometimes playing dirty is playing fair. Unless you’re explicitly breaking laid out rules than technically you’re playing fair despite the use of a cheap move. It doesn’t matter that you got all of your co-workers on your side, all that matters is that you got your idea to come to life. Sun Tzu’s Art of War can be used not only for warfare but for pointing out how society and ourselves as individuals can change. The government, ourselves, Hollywood, and the shy people especially should have a look at Sun Tzu’s writing because it seems like a lot of points are directed their way. Society could use a course looking
