Summer Reading

Over summer we were assigned to read two books. The first one was the loved one by Evelyn Waugh, which was a relatively short book. And the second one was the endurance by Caroline Alexander, which was a pretty thick book.

Both books that were assigned to me over summer have an element from the story that relates to my life experience. In the endurance, the crew tries to cross the whole Antarctic continent but then they sink the ship because it gets ice locked and it crushes. So they have to travel to the nearest civilization that happens to be on an island. They eventually make it to the island but unfortunately it’s the wrong side, so they have to travel to the other side. I can relate to this because about a year ago my friend Lizzy and I had to drop off our friend to her house. She lives in the middle of nowhere and we’ve never been there before. So on the way home we literally took every wrong turn we could make. And finally we found our way to the highway, which we were somewhat familiar with. But about a half an hour later we realized we were heading towards Savannah, Georgia, the opposite direction in which we needed to be going in. once we realized this we took the nearest exit and turned around. Finally we were headed in right direction and made it home. Now the loved one was about a man who worked at the pet cemetery, this job was known as “A job that an Englishman just doesn't take." And because of his job people treated him differently. I do not feel that I relate to this story that much. I do not have a job nor am I treated differently or as an outcast because of something that I do.

The loved one and the endurance both do not really remind me of plot incident that had happened in another book that I have read or at least nothing comes to mind. Honestly I do not read books for fun, so unless there for school, I have not read them. And even then I probably did not pay much attention to the books. The only books that I know from front to cover and that I have actually read “for fun” is the twilight saga. And that has nothing to do with either story.
