My summer internship placement was Arise for Social Justice in Springfield Massachusetts for 10 weeks. I worked on anything the office needed, including answering phones, making copies, organizing food donations, and things I was not aware of I would take on addressing a lack of transparency the organization was lacking. My original hope was to work on environmental issues in the city primarily, however the issues I worked on the most were post environmental disaster relief. When I was notified I attended public hearings and community meetings later in the evening around other issues I am focusing part of my thesis cap stone project for the Honors College. It was interesting to compare the organization skills of time and space through the
...was also heavily involved with the community. My intern group was involved in at least two volunteering events per month on average. We spent time volunteering our time with Feed My Starving Children, KPMG Family for Literacy (a KPMG sponsored volunteering effort to help kids struggling to read), and Habitat for Humanity.
On May 25th 2016 I officially started an internship with Montgomery County’s Department of Mental Hygiene. The department consists of one hard working woman named Sara Borenko who was my supervisor and boss throughout this internship. One of the main duties of Sara’s job is the funding of community programs that are aimed towards helping the mental health community. In fall 2015 I took a class called Community Psychology and while working at this internship; I applied what I had learned from that class and used it to my advantage. Some of the lessons I applied included social oppression, community organizing, stress and coping, and emotional support. Before taking this internship, I didn’t realize how much my county had to offer as for services. I’m inspired by the community and its strides towards helping the mentally ill. I’ve learned a lot during this internship. I’ve gained experience in the field, I’ve grown a broader
Being given the opportunity to intern with the staff at the Family Resource Center in the Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) has been a tremendous learning experience thus far. The opportunity has truly surpassed my expectation of what I imagined the journey of internship would be like and how it would help me to evolve into the professional arena as a social worker. I see myself transforming and viewing the community in which I live, the clients served, those deprived, and the tremendous job that we as social workers are tasked with to advocate for those in need from a more open-minded perspective. By enhancing and developing my personal and professional skills, such as active listening, observation, and professional comportment, I will be
Back in May, the Wisconsin State Assembly Races were just starting to heat up. Candidates were throwing their names in the ring and people were experiencing potential candidates knocking on their doors and collecting signatures to reach the 200 minimum threshold to get their names on the ballot in August. I knew that I wanted to intern for a candidate in an assembly race because I had a few interesting races in the area I am from. I wanted to work for an assembly candidate in the 59th district because I know the area very well and I believed that I could actually have an impact on the race. Assembly races are more personable and they are elected to represent a smaller area, so the work was more focused on a central point. Also, working for a candidate in an Assembly race just makes more sense for college students, especially if the internship is unpaid because there is less driving to do in smaller districts.
Business internships are helping students gain real world experience while they are not actually out in the real world yet. Internships are becoming more and more popular with college students in today’s world. An internship is basically when a student in college goes to a company or business and works while they are still enrolled in school and still getting academic credit. The main purpose of the internship is for the student to gain valuable on the job work experience. But there are also other things that a student can get from internships. Internships help the student decide whether or not this line of work is correct for them. Since the student works in an occupation in which they are highly interested in it really helps them get a bigger picture of the outside world.
This was one of the most rewarding experiences. I was honored to hear stories of many survivors who came to America as their last resort. They knew that their life here would be much better off than the one they would have in their home country. I could relate to them because this was the exact reason why my parents wanted my brother and I to come here. I knew from my experiences at this internship that I wanted to go into law; I wanted to help people find a safe haven, and be there for them when they felt that they had no one to turn
My internship at 6abc has been a dream come true. For me brushing elbows with a famous journalist like Jim Gardner means more than meeting a famous movie star. The atmosphere in the building is something indescribable and it changes every day, every hour to be precise. When news changes, the atmosphere changes. I have honestly dreamed of working at 6abc since I first realized I wanted to be a broadcaster. Their sense of family on television really grabbed me and I always knew that this was the place I wanted to work. Well I got here, but for only three short months, and it breaks my heart to know that I have to leave. There have been some ups and downs during my experience in the Creative Services department, but I gained a better understanding
The past few weeks of my internship has consisted of more meetings. We have had our first School Support Staff Team meeting, which will now be held every other week. Our SPARCs group has also begun, and that will be every Thursday afternoon. SPARCs is a group of 7th grade girls that meets to learn about life skills of coping with trauma. We have also had a CFTM at the school, as well as a meeting with a potential McKinney Vento family. On top of this, I have begun to be more proactive with the school attendance. Instead of just running the reports, and sending out the 3, 6, and 10 day letters, I have started to look for trends in students. I also discovered a way to find a different kind of report through power school that can show us who
My goals for the internship include enhancing my developing research skills. I continuously strive to improve my writing, communication, and analytical skills. In addition, I will learn more about youth violence and the work done at CHOP. Lastly, I aspire to discover different pathways of a future
It has been a while since I started at the internship and I am really glad I decided to work here. I think the experience in this area is a good preview of my career and future. I am learning some important skills and finding out some things about myself and the tough skin I will need in order to stay in the area of juvenile support.
I know that this opportunity has opened up many doors I never thought would be possible. It has officially confirmed my desire to start off in this industry and work my way up the ladder. If it was not for this internship I would not have the appreciation for the knowledge I learned at Elizabethtown and the possibility to benefit my future.
While interviewing for internships, I utilized the skills I acquired in pre-internship to help me secure a position. These skills include communication, organization, and interview skill. To secure an internship at the Public Defender’s office of Petersburg I contacted David Lett, the internship coordinator, through email. Along with a message of interest, I sent my resume and cover letter. Through this type of
During the course of time, I’ve learned many useful things that have led me to be the person I want to be today. From college classes to work experiences, I now have the ability to exceed upon internship experiences that can shape my perspective on life. The purpose of this paper is to summarize, reflect, analyze, and synthesize on my internship experience at the Children’s Home of Reading-Acute Partial Hospitalization Program.
My internship experience this semester was interesting. I interned at ESH/MESH with Bridgeway. My Supervisor was Emilie Banz. I didn’t do much but I did learn a lot from this experience. I met a lot of great people and watch PsyR in action. I met a couple of individuals who were really cool. My experience this semester has prepared me for the next.
Personally, I gained a lot of benefit from the internship. However, there are few matter I think can be refine to make the training program better.
