The story starts with Matthew and Marrila Cuthbert who are unmarried siblings who live on a farm. Matthew is in his sixties and getting older, So both Marilla and Matthew agree on adopting a boy to help them on the farm. But a little surprise came, when Matthew went to pick up the boy there was a girl orphan waiting there instead named Anne. They later found out that the orphanage by mistake sent Anne to the Cuthberts instead of a boy. Marrila isn’t sold about keeping Anne, while Matthew thinks she’s a sweet talkative girl. Marilla deep down ends up enjoying Anne and decides to keep her. Anne struggles with social skills and school, but no one had ever taught her before right from wrong. An example of when Anne first struggled moving to the Green Gables was when she burst out yelling to Mrs. Rachel, Mrs. Rachel made fun of Anne’s red hair insulting her looks. Anne tries very hard to please Marilla with her social skills although many times she struggles. Another example is when, Marilla, Anne, and Matthew were going to have over the new priests and his wife over for supper. Anne was very excited to have them over and specifically Mrs. Allan pastors wife to bake her a cake but instead of using vanila she accidentally uses liniment making the cake turn into a disaster. Anne never had a real true friend until she met Diana her neighbor. Diana and Anne became very close and became “bosom” friends. One day Anne had Diana over for tea and accidently gives her currant wine instead of rasberrry cordial. Diana goes back home drunk because she drank the currant wine. Diana’s mother believes that Anne purposely intoxicated Diana. Because of this Diana was not allowed to see Anne anymore. But one day Dianas brothers got sick with croup. Even the way she talked to people would intrigue me. Anne was out there she was a free soul and expressed her feelings. “Life is worth living as long as there's a laugh in it.” -Anne. I think the author wanted us to realize that we should laugh more and worry less. This made me realize to be cheerful, laugh, and be joyful. “Next to trying and winning, the best thing is trying and failing. chapter 35” This really stood out to me, I think this is something that we can all fit into our lives. I also think that this was one of the messages that the author wanted the reader to understand. I loved the book, It was very interesting and fun. I loved all the characters especially Anne she was a free spirit.
The story of Anne's childhood must be appreciated in order to understand where her drive, inspiration, and motivation were born. As Anne watches her parents go through the tough times in the South, Anne doesn't understand the reasons as to why their life must this way. In the 1940's, at the time of her youth, Mississippi built on the foundations of segregation. Her mother and father would work out in the fields leaving Anne and her siblings home to raise themselves. Their home consisted of one room and was in no comparison to their white neighbors, bosses. At a very young age Anne began to notice the differences in the ways that they were treated versus ...
As a young girl, Anne’s first “teacher” was her very own mother. Anne was a curious little girl. With her curious ways and always wanting to find out what is happening around her, her mother wouldn’t give her any information. Her mother mostly told her to keep quiet and act like she doesn’t know what is happening. Besides
I told you why Anne had felt this way during her ordeal, and what this reveals about her character and her views about life. Anne is a strong and heroic young girl who has a heart for others and she is very compassionate towards others. Which is a great quality to have in that time period she was going through? No one could have done it better than Anne. She helped people look at the good in the situations she was never the one mention the negative things. You think how you would react to this situation. Would you be buoyant? Or would you be colorless in this and always look at the crummy never say anything positive. All quotes can be found in the collections book pages
Beginning in Act II, Anne is mature and caring. She begins to look out for others instead of just herself. She shows her maturity when she says, "I wish you had a religion, Peter." This shows that she cares for Peter and wants him to have as much hope as she does.
will to live shine through. She knew that her parents would one day graduate, get married,...
Character analysis Annemarie is a normal young girl, ten years old, she has normal difficulties and duties like any other girl. but these difficulties aren’t normal ones, she’s faced with the difficulties of war. This war has made Annemarie into a very smart girl, she spends most of her time thinking about how to be safe at all times “Annemarie admitted to herself, snuggling there in the quiet dark, that she was glad to be an ordinary person who would never be called upon for courage.” (4.60) even though shes going through a lot she still controls it very well.
Anne’s thoughts and perspectives of stuff she encountered with, or the struggles she endured weren’t shown in depth in the film. Her curiosity and wonders of countless stuff weren’t shown to the best of ability. Anne was a young girl figuring out many new things in life, in the film however her thoughts aren’t really elaborated. Making the film less interesting, considering the book is a diary full of her encounters of war and the disruptive life that she constantly envisaged throughout her life. She says, “What does that matter? I want to write, but more than that, I want to bring out all kinds of things that lie buried deep in my heart. (20 June, 1942). This quote accentuates the way she wants to write stuff, in the film however she doesn’t
Growing up in rural mississippi, Anne’s family was very poor and surrounded by extreme racism. A few traumatic events near the beginning of the story seem to set a tone for the rest of the tale. In the first chapter, Anne’s house is burned to the ground. This is done by her cousin George, but Anne ends up with the blame. Anne is then punished for something that was not her fault. This is almost a recurring theme in the book, as Anne is continuously being punished or tormented throughout her life for having a darker skin color. Soon after this, Anne’s family is devastated when their father abandons them to run away with another woman. Anne’s mother, pregnant at the time, remains strong and finds a job in the city to support her children. Anne’s mother demonstrates determination and independence, and acts as a role model for Anne so that she too will not give up in the face of conflict and struggle.
Anne's optimistic personality created the hope that she had for her future. Each day she could do nothing but just hope that one day everything will turn around and be better. In The Diary Of Anne Frank play, she expressed, "It'll pass, maybe not for hundreds of years, but someday..." Deep down inside, she had the hope that all of the disgusting things that Hitler alongside his army performed, would all vanish one day. She knew for the most part that the hatred may never go away, but imagining that it might, made things at least a bit better. Anne's situation was pure negativity, with almost nothing good about it. The only good thing that may have come out of it for her were the relationships that she created with everyone in hiding with her. From the Van Daans, to Miep, she bonded amazing friendships with each person involved. Aside from that, Anne's personality stuck out more than anyone's because of the hope that she had, in such a terrible situation.
Imagine what it would have been like to be cooped up in an attic during the Holocaust, with only very little space eight people in one little attic. For the Franks and the Van Danns it was eight people and a cat for most the time. With no one to talk to they have to keep everything in, unless they write it. In “The Diary of Anne Frank” the two families live this way. Anne and Peter were two of the characters who experienced this. Anne is a teenage girl who has a sister and lives during the Holocaust. Anne also had a lot of friends so she was popular; she loved to read and write in her journal. She was very loud and obnoxious. In Act one Scene two ,Peter says “I was always by myself, while you were in a big crowd of people.” This shows that Anne was very popular and is used to people; while Peter was not used to as much attention and people. Then in Act one Scene three, Mr.Van Dann says, “ Why can’t you be more like your sister Margot?” This proves that the Van Danns like Margot more than they like Anne ; it also proves they think Anne is obnoxious.
Becoming a woman happens in every girl’s life through puberty, but for Anne and Liesel it happens in very unusual circumstances. Anne is a thirteen year old girl when she first goes into hiding in the annex; which is a secret living space, as she is Jewish in World War II. She turns fifteen just before the family is arrested. So her diary is a first hand experience on her challenges of puberty under these unusual circumstances, and the issues she struggles with which are universal for all girls going through puberty. Like any normal young girl growing up she talks about her sexuality. Only in Anne’s case, she does not have any close friends to share these experiences or feelings with as she is in hiding. So she writes in her diary about what she is learning about herself. As she grows up and starts to compare herself to her mother and to other women such as her sister, this becomes obvious when she falls for the boy named peter in the secret annex and says
The story begins with both girls being dropped off when they were both eight years old in the orphanage, St. Bonny’s. Having the similarity of not being real orphans with beautiful dead parents in the sky the girls instead were dumped because their mothers didn’t want them. Twyla’s mother was not fully capable to take care of Twyla or as she states in the story her mother “danced all night.” As for Roberta’s mom, she was always sick. In the orphanage the girls become roommates and grow a bond because no one else wanted to play with them, the girls did not lack of having adventures together. For example, Twyla and Roberta enjoyed spying on the “big girls”, on the 2nd floor who pushed them around, who wore lipstick and penciled their eyebrows and liked to smoke and danced. Besides the girls spying on the “big girls”, they would also get a good laugh at laughing at Maggie, a deaf woman who would clean and cook in the orphanage, who couldn’t defend herself. While in St. Bonny’s, Twyla and Roberta witness Maggie get tripped and kicked by the older girls on the 2ND floor. Although ...
Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert are unmarried siblings who live on their ancestral farm, Green Gables, in the quiet town of Avonlea on Prince Edward Island, Canada. Matthew is sixty, and since he is getting too old to handle the farm work on his own, the Cuthberts decide to adopt an orphan boy to help him. This decision shocks the town gossip, Mrs. Rachel Lynde, who does not think Matthew and Marilla fit to raise a child.
The Diary of Anne Frank portrayed perseverance in an individual's characteristics in times of despair. It displays that the way you live your life depends on one's perspective and mentality towards the world. Written by Anne Frank herself, this diary conveyed the perspective of a distraught teen living during the Holocaust. Anne writes about her feelings of isolation and loneliness, each diary entry maturing as time passes. Despite her situation that she was put i...
I wouldn’t put up with it if Anne were my daughter” (52 Frank). Even though Mrs. Van Daan can be very rude at times, there is still good within her. During the novel there are not many times when her and Anne get along, but once Anne went upstairs to just talk to the Van Danns alone and visit them. This time Mrs. Van Daan was nice and they had a good time together. As Anne explained, “Yesterday evening I went upstairs and “visited” the Van Daans. I do so occasionally to have a chat. Sometimes it can be quite fun. Than we have some moth biscuits and drink lemonade” (50 Frank). Finally I appointed this theme because Anne can see the good in most people. She gets judged many times by the people in the “Secret Annex”, but she does not consider them evil people and in fact she understands and can see the good in them. Most people do not show the good in them all the time but it is secretly hiding inside. Anne wrote, “Yet I keep them, because in spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart” (337 Frank). During the novel The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank one theme was, in the world there some evil individuals, but inside of most people there is a least a some
