No one across the board was being mindful of the 1,7000 patients waiting for an appointment that was never really going to happen. For years no one said hey, this isn’t right what where are doing here or there is a problem that we need to address. The employees did not have the voice to speak up about the wrong doings within the VA. It wasn’t until a few whistleblowers came out that attention was brought to the VA. By being dishonest about the veterans who were not really listed on the EWL, shows disrespect to them the veterans. When the VA decided to do this is they did not have in mind the effect it would have on the veterans waiting, thus leading to several deaths that could have been avoided with proper adherence. Communication was lost somewhere within the VA when the problems started to arise and the back log got over whelming. The problems were swept under a rug and then covered up instead of coming together and looking for a solution. No one showed tenacity during this time either, it seems as if everyone nearly turned a blind eye instead of addressing the real issues with in the VA. The VA’s mission statement is “To fulfill president Lincoln’s promise “To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan” by serving and honoring the men and women who are America’s Veterans”(Robins, 2013). These types of questions come in to play when one attempts to critically analyze the differences between the types of terminally ill patients and the subtle ethical/legal nuances between withholding and withdrawing treatment. According to a review by Larry Gostin and Robert Weir about Nancy Cruzan, “…courts examine the physician’s respect for the desires of the patient and the level of care administered. A rule forbidding physicians from discontinuing a treatment that could have been withheld initially will discourage doctors from attempting certain types of care and force them prematurely to allow a patient to die. Physicians must be free to exercise their best professional judgment, especially when facing the sensitive question of whether to administer treatment.”

After watching the first video Charlie bit me! I chose to do a running record since the video was short and I was able to record all the details that I saw happen. I was able to recall most everything that happened. The reason I believe I was able to recall all the information was there where two children involved and one of them was an infant. Therefore, it was easier to recall everything that happened in greater detail. For video number two The Sandbox, I found it more difficult to recall every detail that happened by the end of the observation. After re-watching the video I was able to gather more information that was missed the first time around. It can be difficult to try and recall details from memory. It involved several children, and
Everyone knows someone who has been touched by the recent Veterans Affairs Scandal. Someone in your family or a friend may have served our country only to come home and be delayed medical attention when they arrive at their local VA. This has personally touched my family; my spouse is a Marine Veteran. He needed to see a doctor and I asked him to make an appointment with the VA in Gainesville, since most of the cost would be covered; he laughed at me. He proceeded to tell me that the last time he went to the VA, he arrived prior to seven am and waited almost eight hours to see the doctor and the doctor walked in, told him he thinks he has this condition, wrote him a prescription and walked out within five minutes. My spouse looks at the VA not as a hospital but as a Band-Aid clinic. This experience is not uncommon at most VA’s given the recent accusations that the VA has a “secret wait list”.
