The summoner by Gail Z Martin is a rollercoaster plotted story that really closely relates to a very popular news story all around the world today about North Korea. In North Korea there is and has been tyranny since after World War II, the country is run by an autocratic government. The dictatorship has been passed down the line of a particular family that have isolated North korea from the rest of the world. The current dictator is a man named Kim Jong Un and his story is the one that so closely relates to Gail Z. Martin’s The Summoner. Sky News claims that “Since taking power in 2011, Kim is said to have purged a series of senior officials - including members of his own family- who represent a threat to his leadership”. This shows that …show more content…
Kim Jong Un is not only willing to kill his officials but he is also willing to kill his family to possess power. A man willing to execute his own family for power is a man that only cares about power.
There are many rumors that Kim’s uncle was torn apart by a pack of dogs but sky news says “ Jang being stripped naked and fed to a pack of starving dogs was later debunked.”. In addition to this man’s story, Gail Z Martin’s The Summoner tells a story about a king named Bricen in the kingdom of Margolan. This king is married, later he has a son (jared) with his first wife. His wife dies during childbirth leaving the king as a single father to his heir. Jared, the king’s heir, was not fond of his new step mother and siblings… he grew up to hate all three of them. Later on in life, Jared’s hate had driven him down a bad path, raping maid girls and always drunk. Jared began to plot the assassination of his father to assume power of the kingdom. With the help of a dark warlock (Arontala) jared carries on with his …show more content…
plan. Tris is the protagonist in the novel and witnesses the assassination on king Bricen while climbing down the side of the castle and peering through a window.
After climbing back up the castle he was shocked and decided that he must look for his mother and sister, he was too late. “The dagger that had ended her life protruded from her chest” (Martin 50) Tris’s mother had been stabbed and killed. Tris’s sister was stabbed as well but was barely breathing still, Tris was able to be with her in her last moments but he had to watch her die, “Tris laid Kait’s body down among the blankets and covered her with a sheet.” (Martin 53), this must have been an awful moment for tris, but this was something Tris had seen coming for many years. Jared was not the best big brother. Both of these scenarios show a great deal of selfishness and major sacrifice for power. Jared killed his step-sister and step mother along with the king to assume power while Kim jong un killed his step-brother and his uncle because of a suspicion that they may have had a plot to overthrow him from power. Both the character from The Summoner jared, and Kim Jong Un a man that lives today aren't so different. Both are willing to give up everything for what? Social standing? An
army? Something that differs from both of these scenarios is the soul fact that Jared in the novel had a very loving family that had good intentions. The kingdom is good and untainted by dark magic while king Bricen was in power, there was no malicious intent… it was almost as a fairytale land. On the other hand, Kim Jong Un’s family was supposedly going behind his back to china for assistance to throw him out of power, so Kim’s family didn't seem too fond of him unlike how Jareds family was still there for him and loving even after they found that he is carrying out horrible actions.
Blaine Harden, former national correspondent and writer for the New York Times, delivers an agonizing and heartbreaking story of one man’s extremely conflicted life in a labor camp and an endeavor of escaping this place he grew up in. This man’s name is Shin Dong-hyuk. Together, Blaine Harden and Shin Dong-hyuk tell us the story of this man’s imprisonment and escape into South Korea and eventually, the United States, from North Korea. This biography that takes place from 1982-2011, reports to its readers on what is really going on in “one of the world’s darkest nations” (back cover of the book), that is run under a communist state and totalitarian dictatorship that was lead by Kim Il-sung, Kim Jong-il, and currently lead by Kim-Jong un. In Escape from Camp 14, Shin shows us the adaptation of his life and how one man can truly evolve from an animal, into a real human being.
Witchfinders is a book by Malcolm Gaskill that looks upon strategies that were employed by two Christian crusaders in their quest to mitigate witches in England. The book explores England’s important story and the biggest witch hunt. In the book, Gaskill brings out issues relating to religious and social lives in a very fascinating way. The whole book brings to right ways that witch-finders used to support their brutality and bloodshed in the ancient England notably through biblical justifications. In the book either, the author brings out the demonic ways of the 1640s in East Anglia and through keen analyzes of the factors that are being stipulated in the book one can factor out the rotten society in the time and to some degree relate this to the current society and religious behaviors. The current paper looks upon the short and long term factors

After breakfast Lizzie went outside to the barn to find some metal of some sort so that she could use it on her planned fishing trip that day. In the twenty minutes she spent in the barn her parents were murdered (Martins, Michael, and Binette 78).
The first half of Charles W. Chestnutt’s The Conjure Woman begins with the interaction between a Northern white male and the conventional portrayal of a slave. In the novel an old ex-plantation slave, Julius, recounts stories that he says he heard as a child. The audience of the stories is the white Northern male, who is the narrator of the story, and his sickly wife, Annie. The stories are told for many purposes but my favorite reason behind the telling of the tales is Julius’ attempt and in most cases achievement to acquire several things by this sly action.
Kim Jong-un became the supreme leader of North Korea in 2012 after his father, Kim Jong-il passed away. Kim Jong-un is very similar to his father and predecessor. All he wants to see is

1984 demonstrates a dystopian society in Oceania by presenting a relentless dictator, Big Brother, who uses his power to control the minds of his people and to ensure that his power never exhausts. Aspects of 1984 are evidently established in components of society in North Korea. With both of these society’s under a dictator’s rule, there are many similarities that are distinguished between the two. Orwell’s 1984 becomes parallel to the world of dystopia in North Korea by illustrating a nation that remains isolated under an almighty ruler.

...his child and her boyfriend more reasonably. He handled the crisis of his daughter’s death by making peace with his enemy. He decided with Montague to dedicate statues to their deceased children. This showed that he somewhat understood the cause of death and that it was somewhat his fault. He felt that he should be calm and remember the children for all that they did for stopping the feud between the two families.
North Koreans cannot even say Jand’s name, the photo of Jand at Kim Jong Il’s funeral is no longer available to be seen. The reason North Korea’s leader can do something like alter history is because they have no one to stop them or question them on why they are doing so. Leaders can and have also created events in history, just like in 1984. (Radio Free Asia)
Charles W. Chesnutt wanted to describe the master-slave relationship. He wrote about the tragedy of the slaves and their horrible circumstances. That is why he created the character of Uncle Julius. The main theme of these stories is separation of lovers. The first part of the "Conjure Woman" represents the interaction between a north white male and a traditional black slave. Julius, the ex-plantation slave tells us the stories saying that he heard when he was a child. He and his sick wife Annie are the two main narrators of the stories. One of these stories is called "Po' Sandy". It is a great love story. In this story, we find that love and conjuring magic are two ways to distract the lovers away from the horrible situations they live in.
North Korea is notorious as the “Hermit Kingdom”. Defensive and secretive to the point of paranoia, its history as well as its present conditions remains shrouded in mystery. What little we do know can be murky at best. The central govern...
