The Stolen Party Her heart is a battlefield. Liliana Hecker writes about a story entitled “The Stolen Party” which shows how a girl learns about herself in society. The birthday party changes her perspective of other people. Rosaura, an innocent little girl, does not realize that people think of her differently because she is not as wealthy as they. This lowers her self esteem. Rosaura learns that her place in society defines her. Before the party, Rosaura is ecstatic. Her mother, however, is not. The mother tries to persuade Rosaura not to go. The author foreshadows the ending when she writes that the mother says It is a rich people's party. Rosaura thinks that her mother will stop loving her if she lives in a big mansion. Rosaura is unaware about social classes. She wants to go because Luciana is her friend and they do homework together. They even tell each other secrets. She does not get why her mother will not let her go. Rosaura wants to go because there is going to be a magician who is bringing a monkey. Right away Luciana shows her where the monkey is. Rosaura is the first person to see the monkey who sits lonely in its cage. She proves her mother wrong. The author foreshadows the end when Rosaura runs into someone who tries to persuade her that she is not a true friend of Luciana. The girl is Luciana’s cousin who commits that she has no idea who Rosaura is. Rosaura does not care and puts that behind her. Before it gets too intense Rosaura is called away by Senora Ines, Luciana’s mother, so she can help pass out cake. Rosaura is thrilled because everyone calls her name and she even got to give a thin slice to Luciana’s cousin. Next, the magician comes out with the monkey. While searching through the crowd for a helper, he spots eye on Rosaura. She gets to help the magician and even gets to carry the monkey. This just topped the party
