The “Slum Lords” knew it was easy to profit off these individuals and although the system was successful for them, it was detrimental to not just those residents themselves, but the whole urban society. The architectural design of Pruitt-Igoe is modern and high-rise. Many believed that the failure of Pruitt-Igoe was due to its architectural design and physical structure, but in reality, the poor maintenance and underfunding of public housing was its downfall. Areas stopped being cleaned, elevators for multiple floored buildings stopped working, and funds needed to maintain these buildings got cut. Without this support and maintenance, these buildings inevitably become unlivable and impractical.
