In the Ted Talk, “My stroke of insight”, the speaker Jill Bolte Taylor, a neuroanatomist had undergone a stroke affecting her left hemisphere. During this process she was able to experience her brain deteriorating slowly and she was able to study it. She explains how she wanted to become a brain researcher because of her brother’s brain condition, schizophrenia. During the TedTalk she also explained her whole experience, including what it felt like, her emotions, and the world around her while having a stroke as well as the difficulties that she had encountered. Jill explains this experience as a tremendous gift.

The author Arthur Miller in Death of a Salesman has displayed a struggle of a common man to achieve the American dream. Willy Loman the protagonist of the play has spent his whole life in chasing the American dream. He was a successful salesman who has got old and unable to travel for his work, and no one at work gives him importance anymore. He is unhappy with his sons Happy and Biff because both of them are not successful in their lives. Moreover, Biff and Happy are also not happy with their father Willy because they don’t want to live a life that Willy wants them to live. The heated discussions of Willy and his older son Biff affect the family and the family starts to fall apart. However, Willy is unable to achieve the American dream and does not want to face the reality that his decisions for himself and his family have lead him to be a failure in the society. In the play Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller, the protagonist Willy Loman spends his whole life to achieve the American Dream by his own perception and denies facing the reality, just like nowadays people are selling themselves and attempting to find success in life.
Conflict is everywhere; from the smallest quarrels to the grandest of wars, society has had to deal with hardships. Persistence and determination saves the day. Without trust, or confidence in trust, society would be in grave danger during times of panic. Confidence can be shown in small acts, just as Sophie does in Hitler Youth: Growing up in Hitler’s Shadow, or country-impacting, like Prime Minister Winston Churchill shows in his speech, Blood, Toil, Tears and Sweat. People can best respond to conflict by staying confident in their beliefs and ideas.

Since learning more about the true purpose of communication, I have been seeking ways in which I can improve upon my weaknesses in communication, as well as in other areas of the art. One way that I plan to do improve in this way is simply through a positive attitude. As an introvert, I do not feel the need or desire to vocalize many of the thoughts that I have. Since joining this course, however, I have learned the importance of positive self-communication. Often times I feel as though I have a negative view of myself, and stress my weaknesses over my strengths. But one way to grow in communication is to recognize that I do have strengths, and that it is possible for me to grow further in improving my weaknesses. If cannot even acknowledge to myself that I am capable of improvement, how am I supposed to improve? I need to see myself as God sees me before I am able to bring His kingdom to Earth
