In her essay, Love’s Vocabulary, Diane Ackerman uses Analogy in order to describe her concept of her love to the reader. An analogy is comparing two unlike things using figurative language. Like simile, metaphor, personification, etc. Diane Ackerman visualizes love not being monotone, she portrays it as; “ Like a batik created from many emotional colors it is a fabric whose pattern and brightness may vary.” In other words, Love is not one color but has a variety of colors from darkest to brightest that love itself can offer. The author portrays love as something we cannot explain since it comes in different way (patterns).
