Billy is coming home from work one day when suddenly he hears some dogs up the street fighting. He goes to check it out and finds them picking on a redbone hound. He saves the dog and cares for it through the night. It reminds him of his childhood. When Billy was ten years old he lived on a farm in the Ozark Mountains of northeastern Oklahoma. He wanted two good coonhounds very badly, he called it “puppy love”, but his papa could not afford to buy him the dogs. For many months, Billy tries to content himself with some rodent traps his papa gives him, but he still wants a dog. Then one day he finds a sportsman’s catalog in an abandoned campsite. In it he sees an ad for good hounds, at $25 each. He decides he wants to save $50 and order himself two hounds. Billy works hard, selling fruit and bait to fishermen, and gathering fruit that he sells to his grandfather at his store. Finally, he saves enough money and gives it to his grandfather to order the dogs for him and asks him to keep it s secret. When a notice comes that they have arrived at the mail depot in the nearby town of Tahlequah, they decide to go into town the next week. That night Billy decides he can not wait any longer. He packs himself a little food, and heads of for town following the river through the woods. He walks all night, and finally reaches town in the morning. The people in town laugh and stare at the young hillbilly, but it does not bother Billy he is there on a mission to get his dogs. He finally collects his dogs and walks back out of town with their small heads sticking out of his bag. Some schoolchildren mob around him and knock him down, but the town sheriff rescues him. The sheriff is impressed with Billy’s determination, and says he has grit. That, night Billy camped in a cave with his two puppies. They wake up in the middle of the night to hear the call of a mountain lion. Billy builds a fire to keep them safe, while the bigger of the two dogs, the male, barks into the night air.
At lunch the children are rowdy and need to be calmed down. The father says, "Maybe we could try a little quiet today." The girl replies, "You sound like your tombstone. Remember what you wanted it to say?" Her brother joins in by saying, "Today will be a quiet day. Because it never is around us." (Hempel 1204). Shortly after completing their meal, the girl asks about her dog. "Did anyone remember to feed him?" she asks (Hempel 1205). The boy again brings death into the picture by saying that he forgot to feed the dog and then proceeds to remind her about her previous dog. She was told the dog was taken to a sheep farm where, in reality, the dog was put to sleep. Naturally, the girl began to cry.
“You can either allow the obstacles in your life to be the excuse for your failure or make them the reason behind your success.” Although the quote’s author is unknown, anyone can connect to this quote in some way about how you can let obstacles stop you from doing what you want to do or you can use them as a reason for success. This holds true for Christopher, the main protagonist in the novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon. Christopher is a 15-year-old in the autism spectrum, and although gifted in mathematics, he struggles with communicating and has extreme likes and dislikes. These obstacles definitely make it seem as if his goals are far from reach and as secrets come out his success seems almost unattainable, but because of these hardships he learns many lessons about human nature and himself, including that deciphering facial expressions to find the emotions connected to them and that he is capable of doing anything regardless of the obstacles thrown at him.
Take a moment and picture a dog in your head. What do you see? You may see many different things depending on your own personal encounters with the species. There are many types of dogs out there. Some small, some large, long-haired or short-haired. There are many variances in what a dog can look like. One thing that does not change, or should not change, is the importance for every dog in this world to be given love and affection, no matter its characteristics. This is what leads me to believe that the obsession with producing and owning purebreds needs to come to a halt. Continuing to create these so-called “best dogs” is dangerous to not only the purebred’s health, but also devalues mixed breeds and can cost them their lives in animal shelters where they may never escape. My interest in this topic caused me to look into seeing what other people felt about it.
Yvonne and her neighbors rushed to help the dog. The dog was bleeding profusely. He wagged his tail one time and died. Yvonne's neighbors put a blanket over her because she was only wearing underwear when the police came to her home. Yvonne was in shock after her dog was shot. She comforted her dog until he died. There are however certain aspects within these countries and cultures that act as a common ground between one another. One dominant aspect is the existence of dogs within these cultures.
Days went by, working in the small, little shop. Jeremy started figuring out everything and what goes on. One day, after working as hard as a dog, Eli told Jeremy that he could leave a few hours early because he noticed Jeremy was exhausted. Eli asked Jeremy that before he got on his horse to go back home, he had to clean up the materials he was using. Jeremy then ran towards his work station to clean up the mess he had made. After ten minutes of gathering the cotton he made a mess with, Jeremy had to put away the spikes that were used to separate the cotton from the seeds.

This fight between Cat, and Dog was not going to end. Their rivalry was growing immensely ever since they met. They were willing to wreck the whole entire house just to fight one another. The curtains were so torn up that they could have been used as a replacement for sewing material. Well when Dog tried to bite Cat he ended up biting one of the male human's brand new shoes that still had the crunched up balls of paper inside them however, dog didn’t mind though, he did love the taste of the brand new dark, leathery, shoes and the brand new smell either. When Cat and Dog decided to duke the some of the fight on the dark cinnamon cherry colored TV stand, the sixty inch smart, flat screen TV fell over and broke like a ceramic mug breaking into millions...
I met the man to pick my choice of dog. I was brought into a room and in this room was a basket overflowing with sleeping puppies. They were two months old black and white but also a few brindle. Some had escaped and wandered off walking. Each one was five hundred dollars, not a price that bothered me since I saved enough for this. This small half black and white face male puppy really caught my attention. “That one!” Nothing was changing my mind on that. That puppy was going to be Bentley. All of my life, I had waited for this. He makes his arrival to his new
The interactions with the family shows common struggles and the description of how the dog reacts gives off a sense of hope and safety. Often during times of distress people use religion as a way of coping with problems. The dog in the story is “. . . turned over upon his back, and held his paws in a peculiar manner. At the same time with his ears and his eyes he offered a small prayer to the child”(Crane, "A Dark Brown Dog") this happens several times in the story which usually brings the little boy happiness. The dog also allowed the child to occasionally take out anger on it even when no reason was given. The dog played a safe haven that allowed the boy to believe things will get better shown here: “When misfortune came upon the child, and his troubles overwhelmed him, he would often crawl under the table and lay his small distressed head on the dog 's back. The dog was ever sympathetic”(Crane, "A Dark Brown Dog"). The story eventually ends with the dog 's death by the hands of the child 's father here: “The father of the family paid no attention to these calls of the child, but advanced with glee upon the dog...He rolled over on his back and held his paws in a peculiar manner. At the same time with his eyes and his ears he offered up a small prayer...the father was in a mood for having fun, and it occurred to him that it would be a fine thing to throw the dog out of the window”(Crane, "A Dark Brown Dog"). Even before the dog 's last moments he uses religion as hope that the father will stop his violence but instead the father tossed that hope away once he grabbed the dog to toss it out the
The next day, Napoleon sent a group of animals over to the Truman farm, they were to stay there for a week to help rebuild the barn. Muriel, Clover and Benjamin were among those who went. A week passed the barn had been rebuilt and the animals returned home and started their normal work again. After a long day of work the animals finally came into the barn to collect their rations, each of the smaller animals received a quarter of an ear of corn and a tiny portion of grain. The larger animals received half an ear of corn and half an apple. The pigs on the other hand received an ear of corn, an apple, some grain and a glass of beer. Muriel said to Squealer and the other animals "I'm certain we used to get more food than this, and we also used to work shorter hours when Mr. Jones was around". There was uproar "Don't mention that name ever again" said Napoleon, who then left to eat his dinner in the comfort of the farmhouse. Squealer rose in front of the crowd of animals, "We do receive as much food as we used to, we just have to work a little bit harder for a while then we will probably be able to stop work altogether". Muriel said, "When we were at the Truman Farm we worked shorter hours and received more food", Squealer tried to make an excuse for the animals receiving less food than they used to, "Ok, we don't get as much food as we used to, but that is because we are trying to save money so we can get new machinery, so in the future we only have to work from 'eight till three' instead of 'five until six'".
