Diction is the precise choice of words and style of expression used by an author. The use of diction is observed multiple times in the short story A Temporary Matter by Jhumpa Lahiri. In A Temporary Matter, married couple Shoba and Shukumar experience the loss of their newborn baby during childbirth. The fatality of their child results in their marriage to slowly deteriorate and eventually cease. The conflicts within their marriage are perceived to be the result of a communication barrier; however, Lahiri's use of diction reveals they are experiencing greater conflicts. Diction has the capability to deliver powerful messages to readers; such as the concept that Shoba and Shukumar’s marriage is in a state of war. To illustrate the present state
Diction is the author’s word choice. The magazine, “Feeding Frenzy”, from Sports Illustrated by Richard Hoffer shows many types of diction. The magazine is about Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield’s boxing match in 1997. The three types of diction that stood out to me was violent, circus, and sarcastic. The author, Richard Hoffer, uses these three types of diction to show how violent, circus like, and how sarcastic the fight was to the people who saw it.

Communication is a vital component of everyday relationships in all of mankind. In plays, there are many usual staging and dialogue techniques that directors use to achieve the attention of the audience. The play is unconventional in how it attempts to have the audience react in a unique way. The authors use staging and conversation to portray to the audience that there are complex problems with communication in modern relationships.

Moreover, it gives the readers the opportunity to feel the same emotions and feelings of the characters, as if they were in there shoes. As a final point, the writer includes a specific tone in order to make the readers develop a feeling towards the main character such as feeling sincere towards a character, or rather despising them.
In this paper, Im going to take a formalist approach to look at language, tone and structure of Suffer the Little Children by Stephen King. This story is not just about a particular teacher or a particular student; it is more about a disturbed ladys state of mind, and my work will give emphasis to the characterization the author uses through the text.
In the story “Two Kinds”, the author, Amy Tan, intends to make reader think of the meaning behind the story. She doesn’t speak out as an analyzer to illustrate what is the real problem between her and her mother. Instead, she uses her own point of view as a narrator to state what she has experienced and what she feels in her mind all along the story. She has not judged what is right or wrong based on her opinion. Instead of giving instruction of how to solve a family issue, the author chooses to write a narrative diary containing her true feeling toward events during her childhood, which offers reader not only a clear account, but insight on how the narrator feels frustrated due to failing her mother’s expectations which leads to a large conflict between the narrator and her mother.
In the story, “The Storm” the author Kate Chopin uses strong language to tell the story. The language helps to show the relationship between the two and the desire that they had to fulfill themselves with each other.
