Summary: Male Penguins Should Be Allowed In Elementary School

If you have never read the children’s storybook and tango makes three, I encourage you to read it before introducing it to your children. The storyline of this book is about to male penguins who are in love. They spend all their time together and try to do everything the normal couples do. The eventually realize they cannot create an egg of their own. Their zookeeper gives them an egg from another penguin couple who could not care for it. They take turns keeping the egg warm and safe until the egg hatches. After the egg hatches they continue to care for the chick as she grows into a young adult. I think this book should be allowed in elementary schools with no restrictions.
Children should be educated on many different views and beliefs that

they may not see in everyday life. Many young children do not understand what it means to be homosexual. Just because a parents educates their child on a situation, matter, or lifestyle does not mean that they have to agree or believe in that particular belief. At some point in life, all children will be introduced to something that the parent thinks is unacceptable, whether it be someone the child personally know or a couple in line behind you in line at the grocery store. When they encounter a situation similar to this, they should understand what is truly going on.
All children should feel like they belong, especially at school, where the majority of their time is spent. If I went to a library where all the books were about a lifestyle different from mine, I would feel like I didn't belong. I could never feel comfortable making any child feel left out, but that is exactly what is happening with the ban of this book. Every child’s situation should be addressed. If this book makes just one child happy, that is reason enough to keep the book in the library.
One book should not be banned because it has two fathers and an adopted daughter. If a book cannot be banned for the storyline being about an adopted child with a mother and father, then it should be just fine to have a book about an adopted child with two mothers or two fathers. The sex of your parents does not affect their love for their child.
If a parent is uncomfortable with their child reading this book, they should speak with the librarian or the principal of the school. There is no reason the book should be banned. They should also speak with the child to let them know that particular book is off limits. Just because some parents do not share the same beliefs as the book doesn’t mean it should not be allowed.
