I was excited to learn of the opening for an Animal Care Assistant at the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium. Working with animals has been my life-long dream and I have been looking for an opportunity to work in this field for some time now. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Law and Justice from Central Washington University. Additionally, I have volunteered and worked with animals throughout several jobs.
I currently work at PetSmart as a pet care associate. I am responsible for taking care of all of the animals at the store. I take care of cats, small rodents, birds, reptiles, and fish. My duties include cleaning the habitats, feeding and administering medicine to animals, as well as documenting any changes in the animals. I also have volunteered
Veterinary technicians are like the techies of the theatre; the organization would be able to function without them, but it would be much harder. Things run a lot more smoothly with vet techs. There are multiple benefits that come with being a veterinary technician. These benefits include, but are not limited to, a high job outlook, great room for advancement, and only two years of schooling (depending on the route you take). Above all, the animals, who aren’t always able to help themselves, are being taken care of.
Vet Tech has always been an option for me, helping animals is something that is very interesting. It was introduced in 1989, the AVMA officially adopted the name “Vet Tech.” In 1998, emergency vets debut on Animal Planet. And in 2008, student population grows from 500 to 700. There are about 17,000 people employed in the career field chosen. Some of the common trends of the job would be, working at Zoos, Aquariums, Boarding Kennels, and Wildlife sanctuaries. These jobs are usually found working in an animal clinic or hospitals and sometimes at farms because that is the “normal” areas for this occupation. In this career there are some general duties such as: Observe animals behavior and conditions, Provide nursing care, Bathe animals, Clip nails, groom animals hair, keep animals calm during exams or procedures. The more specific duties of the job would be to: take x-rays of animals and develop them, get utensils and prepare the animals for surgery, keep and record patient's history. Most of the clinics are open 24 hours. There is not anything that is unusual about the number of hours/nature of the job. (Bls.gov.vettech)
“It depends on where people work usually, but the workers come in and check the pets that are in hospital that need additional care. Then in some way, workers have checklists for each hospitalized pet, so if they need medications, bandage changes, etc, workers can then keep track easier. Then workers go on to do medication for any animals that are boarding with the clinic in kennels. After that they check in pets that are coming for surgery or for a drop off exam/treatment.... ... middle of paper ...
The duties and responsibilities a Veterinary Technician has to be able to work any day at any time just like a paramedic. Also a Vet Technician has to keep animals happy while in treatment at the clinic. “On any given day that I am in surgery I wil...
I am extremely interested in pursuing my life career as a veterinary technician because I believe any animal’s welfare and stability is just as important as a human being’s. I absolutely...
For as long as I can remember, my childhood dream has always been wanting to become a veterinarian. While other kids were outside having fun at the playground, I was at the library reading books and learning about the different animals. However, as I matured, I realized that being a veterinarian isn’t just about caring for and assisting injured animals. Being a veterinarian means having the ability to make quick decisions in stressful situations, showing complete dedication and passion to this profession, and being able to effectively communicate to pet owners.
In one way or another, I have been taking care of animals my entire life. Growing up, I was completely dedicated to animals, caring for what could be considered a mini zoo. Naturally, as a child, I was set on a career as a veterinarian. Like most children, I was naive about the veterinary profession, but I had plenty of people to warn me about its challenges. Albeit initially discouraged from becoming a veterinarian, my search for a meaningful career not only revived my spark for veterinary medicine but also gave me the maturity and experience necessary to succeed in it.
The complexity and diversity of the animal kingdom has always captivated me. This has resulted in a desire to accomplish a place in Veterinary Nursing. This aspiration has it’s origins in an early family life occupied with animals and pets, a developing interest in the science and wellbeing of animals and an expanding sense of duty for the care we owe to the creatures which convey true companionship and loyalty. Work experience and volunteering has taught me to recognise and appreciate the ‘guardian’ roles performed by the veterinarian and veterinary nurse which has served to increase my determination to pursue a career in a field which has an everlasting effect on animal companionship and welfare, as well as human industry, community and
While I was doing my preceptorship, it was like nothing I’ve ever witnessed before. The lead Veterinary technician, Nicole gave me a wonderful tour of the building. Right before the tour she said that every day at 9:45am they have a little huddle with each department. During this huddle, each department shares what they have going on today, who is going to have a walkie talkie on them today, and who is going to be where. On the tour she explained to me how many different programs they do with all the animals. Also they don’t just work with dogs and cats. They have dogs, cats, pocket pets, and also birds. Going to the Animal Humane Society in Golden Valley was an awesome experience. First of all this place was huge. They have several different boarding rooms for all kinds of different animals.
This job appeals to me because I really enjoy working with animals and I would like to travel around the word to study all kinds of different animals. I think it would be fun to travel to places like Africa and the Amazon to study the different animals in those two places.
Helping animals and taking care of their daily activities is fun, especially when they are super excited and happy to play. The job that this happens in is in veterinary technicians, who help veterinarians with their daily duties. Playing with the animals and helping with their exams and daily activities would be the best part of the day. It could be very interesting for most people because if they love animals, and helping animals get better, without actually performing surgery on the animal this would be a great job for them. The joy of taking care of an animal might be the highlight of someone's day, because of the thought of knowing that they just helped it become even stronger to survive.
When I was a freshman in High school, my relatives asked me what I wanted to do when I grew up, I didn't know, I had no clue what I was going to be. Now in 12th grade I'm sure what I want to do. When I graduate I plan on going on to college and becoming a Vet assistant. I love animals, and grew up on a farm. I’ve always had animals around me, either just cats around the barn, or my late horse that was named Shadow that I loved. So becoming a vet would be a great idea for me. There was at least Michigan State University, a big place to go where it is very expensive. There are other smaller places like North Eastern Michigan, or Olivet. ACC even could be a great place to start off at.
When the average person thinks about zoology, they usually think about a zoo and or animals. As said in General Zoology, many questions come with this topic. “What is life? In what ways are the various kinds of animals alike or unlike in structure, internal processes, and modes of life? How do animals carry on their activities? How are the many kinds related to one another? In what ways does man resemble and differ from other living things? The answers to many of these questions are provided by the science of zoology.” (General Zoology, page 3). While zoology does involve animals, the general study of zoology is far more complicated then one would imagine. Zoology is a branch of biology that studies the classification, origins, habitats and behaviors of organisms. Someone who studies zoology is a zoologist, and has the tasks of learning about new species and their habitats. It is a job that if mastered, can be one of the most fulfilling and knowledgeable careers someone can obtain.
I am doing my research paper on being a Veterinarian. I have a strong passion for animals. I have been volunteering at an animal shelter for almost 6 years. I enjoy working with animals and also training them. I would love to pursue my career in this because it is something I can see myself doing for the rest of my life.
“You 'll make the jobs of everyone working for animals a little easier by lending a hand and spreading the message of responsible pet ownership and animal protection” (Top Reasons to Volunteer). Most of the time the new volunteers do not have the experience that the older volunteers have. If there is something that needs to be done and one of the volunteers do not know what to do next suggest to them that a certain chore needs taken care of. Also, if you see a dog got out or is being aggresive go and get the staff to help and ask for guidance. The animal and your safety is the most important
