Suicide is the second leading cause of death for ages 10-24.Suicide can be caused by being depressed or being stressed over something. Being bullied eventually leads to being depressed. Being depressed leads to having suicidal thoughts. It’s isn’t okay to bully someone or watch someone else get bullied.I think everyone should try to stop the bullies from the bullying people. Over thousands of students go to school each day and get bullied.Getting bullied is very sad and it makes the student getting bullied want to do bad things.Friends or people who sit there and just watch others get bullied could call for help. Also kids who get bullied can ask for help or talk to someone you trust.Bullying is also bad because it can cause kids to disrespect …show more content…
When an adult gets bullied it's not as bad as if a kid were getting bullied because adults will go and talk to someone they trust.Maybe sometimes adults wont and than they just think about trying to hurt people.adults getting bullied is different than when adults gets bullied because it can be less hurting. Also it could be less hurting because the adult may have already been bullied before and may know how it feels. When kids get bullied it's different the first thing they want to do is try to kill themselves and not even try talking to someone. If anyone is ever being bullied and you know who it is tell someone don't just sit there and do nothing about it.Maybe you can even sit there and talk to that person and give them reasons why they should act like if they don't care. Also you can talk to their parents and let them know whats going on.Or you could even become friends with the kid whos getting bullied and try to make the bullies stop bullying
Suicide due to bullying has been given the name of bullycide. One example of bullycide would be Jon Carmichael from Texas who was bullied so harshly that “one day they stripped him naked, tied him up, and stuck him in a trash can, and they taped it with their cell phones and put it all on You Tube” per his mother’s account (Texas Monthly, Hollandsworth). A few days later Jon was found hanging by a rafter from their barn after committing suicide. The perpetrators of this abuse were his fellow classmates and it is reported that “60% of boys who bullied others in middle school had at least one criminal conviction by the age of 24; 40% had three or more convictions” (van der Valk, 41). Bullying behavior not only negatively affects the victims that are singled out and tormented, but from a legal perspective can lead to long term criminal
“Once I got teased, I could see where the anger came from and what can make someone want to kill,” said Stefan Barone, a fourteen year old. (ABC News) The anger and depression is overwhelming and hard to control. There is no doubt that bullying cause’s suicide, and those bullied often commit acts of violence against others.
...f someone has expressed ideas of suicide and feeling alone, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. This is a toll-free call that connects to the nearest crisis center, 24 hours a day. Things have to be done to prevent bullying in schools in order for society to overcome this fast growing problem. Lives could be saved from students acting out, as well as lives bettering from students who would not be bullied anymore. Society would become better as a whole without teenage bullying, or even adult bullying seen in the workplace. In many cases, people don’t help out with the situation unless they’ve been through it before, which is also not helping. The world would be better and happier if bullying was completely eliminated from it.
Bullying in school arises as a global issue, and people are becoming more aware of its essence and its consequences. Going to school should be like a second home, a safe, compliant place, but for some student, school can be a social nightmare. Some may view bullying as a harmless act, but it is in fact a dangerous act. Students that have been bullied tend to be emotionally unstable, depressed, loss of interest in school and they have a higher risk of becoming drug addicts and school dropout. Bullying does not only affect the person being bullied, but also the bully himself. Persons who are bullies are usually the ones with the most problems and they use bullying as a mask to hide all their problems. Students who bully are more prone to abuse alcohol and drugs, they usually engage in risky sexual activities and are more likely to grow up as criminal
Bullying has evolved into a monster with many heads. There are many different types of bullying “traditional bullying is any type of bullying that is carried out through non-electronic means” (Differences between Cyberbullying and Traditional Bullying). Examples of non-electronic bullying are verbal, physical, and social bullying. Traditional bullying is what most parents think of when bullying is proposed. The one question that is usually asked is why? There are many reason why bullying may occur. “Bullies may have underlying psychological factors that contribute to their aggressive behavior or impair their ability to interpret social interactions” (Bullying at School). Bullying can cause another person long or short term problems throughout their whole life. Bullies are also likely to have problems throughout life, such as drug abuse, alcohol abuse, and spouse abuse. Bullying is not only wrong, but inhumane.
Bullying occurs between girls and guys but studies show that girls are more emotional attacked, which in the long run can cause more issues later on in life. Although bullying changes the futures of many girls it also takes a very high toll on guys lives as well. “Patel also found that of the total of suicides at ages 15 and older, about 40% and about 56% of female suicides occurred at ages 15-29 years old”(NCBI). When these studies were shown it ends being a surprising case; more girls attempt suicide but more guys are successful. Furthermore bullying is the ultimate reason for teen suicide “For every suicide among young people, there are at least 100 suicide attempts. Over 14 percent of high school students have considered suicide, and almost 7 percent have attempted it”(Bullying Statistics). Bullying causes many suicide attempts at a young age but once the child figures out how to face the bully they will be a stronger person. If they cannot figure out how to take a stand for themselves many of the children turn to suicide. Therefore, taking a stance on bullying and figuring out why bullying is so common, will eliminate a majority of teen suicide. The action of suicide is definitely not the most effective way out of being bullied but many children are afraid to take a
No matter the circumstance, bullying is a growing problem for all people and causes pain and suffering for victims, but there are ways to prevent bullying and raise awareness of the ever-growing issues that it inflicts on victims. Ultimately, it is up to the public, parents, and school system to reduce the amount of bullying by raising awareness, teaching, and investing time into the contributing factors, the bullies and
Too many adults seem to think that bullying is just part of being a kid, but it isn’t, and it has a negative and sometimes long lasting effect on others. Bullying Statistics show that “Suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people, resulting in about 4,400 deaths per year, according to the CDC. For every suicide among young people, there are at least 100 suicide attempts. Over 14 percent of high school students have considered suicide, and almost 7 percent have attempted it.” What some people do not realize is that there are many different types of bullying that include physical bullying, emotional bullying, sexting, and cyberbullying. There are many warning signs of suicide. Depression, interest in death or dying, engaging in harmful activities (e.g. substance abuse, reckless behavior, and self-injury), giving away personal possessions, saying goodbye to people, and making comments about how life would be better off without them. If you are hearing or seeing any of these warning signs, take action! According to Opposing Viewpoints Online Collection about Bullying, there can also be negative mental health issues, anxiety and
Parents and schools play a significant role in stopping bullies. The research states “the families of bullies are lacking in warmth and closeness and focused on power and dominance.” (1) To prevent bullying, parents, school staffs and all adults have a role to play. Help children who experienced bullying to understand that it is unacceptable behavior and how to stand up to it. Communication is always the key. Adults should listen to children, know what is going on around them, friends, school, and understand their concerns. Encourage children to build their interest and hobbies, this will boost their confidence and help them to make friends. Gather parents and children together is a great way to prevent and protect from bullying.
According to statistics reported by ABC News, nearly 30 percent of students are either bullies or victims of bullying, and 160,000 kids stay home from school every day because of fear of bullying. Bullying is when a person is picked on over and over again by an individual or group with more power, either in terms of physical or social standing (Young). For example, bullying can be physical: punching, beating, kicking, or punching; verbal: teasing, calling names, or insulting another person with physical harm, or spreading rumors or untrue statements about another person; rational: refusing to talk to someone or making them feel left out. Unfortunately, bullying is something that most kids will experience in their lives, whether it is because they are a bully, they are the victim of a bully or they witness bullying in some form. The effects of bullying are long-lasting and devastating in so many ways. As a result of bullying, kids and teens are suffering from depression, low self esteem, and suicide/suicidal thoughts everyday.
Being a victim of bullying can be linked to suicidal thoughts as well as behavior in adolescents. Other causes might also include having family problems at home, problems at work, school and or with school peers. Suicide is a serious problem, though it not only affects the victim, but it also affects family members, loved ones, along with friends. Suicide in adolescents is the third-leading cause of death in the United States between the ages of 10 and 19 (National Center for Health Statistics, 2012, 292). More adolescents who think about attempting suicide are mostly the ones who are unsuccessful at it.
Bullying causes serious damage to people that are innocent and never hurt a fly. People that gets pick on everyday has to live with that until something happens to the bully, or they wake up thinking about it and don’t want to go to school, or anywhere else. Being called names and made fun of is very hurtful and makes you depressed all the time you just can’t stop thinking about it, it will follow you all through your life and it isn’t something you can just forget about the next day if it happens everyday to you.
If schools have bully awareness programs teenage suicide rates can be decreased. Russell Skiba has stated in an article, “programs have been found to be effective in reducing bullying incidents by as much as 50 percent”(Skiba). If schools will provide students with a bullying awareness program then there could be a result of fewer students trying to commit suicide. Being picked on can make a person feel less confident, scared, and hate themselves. These bullies can even be known as your “friends” from school. Some children will then start to feel differently because they cannot fit in with the people surrounding them which will then lead them to feel as if they are not good enough. Bullies can lead children to go through many situations such as depression, anxiety, and social disorders. These harsh words from these bullies around the school can eventually lead a student to kill themselves. With the bullying awareness program, it can help make a change and give students ways to ignore the bullies’ hur...
