The proposing of whether or not there should be taxes on sugary drinks such as soda, energy drinks, or anything with an artificial sweetener. I believe there should be taxes on sugary drinks. Based on a highly known fact, sugary drinks are the major contributors to the obesity in adults and children. Sugary drinks have caused an impact.
It has become an epidemic, with the ease of access for children and adults to purchase sugary drinks at such a low price, is becoming a problem. It is also proven that people who drink sugary beverages do not feel as full as if they had a solid meal along with people consuming sugary beverage don’t add into there high caloric content by eating less food which causes weight gain. The major cause of the obesity problem is the consumption of sugar drinks; another scary fact is that 1 in 4 people consume at least one can of soda a day while another 5% drink at least 4 cans a day!
Marking is a huge source of why teens and adults pick sugary drinks; in fact sugary drinks are the top caloric source in a teen’s diet. Beverage companies spend billions of dollars in marketing to sell there sugary drinks, with a majority of the target being to youth kids between the ages of 2-17. Coke launched a supposed anti-obesity advertisement, and they tried to advertised of there calorie free drinks and encouraged people to take responsibility for their own drinking habits. The more ounces of sugary substance a human consumes each day means the more calories that he or she will take in later that day, which is the opposite when you eat solid food. This means that people will take in larger meals because fluids don’t provide the same feeling of fullness as solid food.
