Marc Brumann once said, “The greatest advancements and gains in health will not come from technology and medical advancements but instead will come from changes in lifestyles”. After reading multiple different articles about sugar and its effect on the human body, I agree with Brumann’s statement. When I read this quote, it makes me think Marc Brumann is stating how humans are in control of their personal health. This leads to the problem of sugar towards humans because some people aren’t making a change about their sugar intake. Sugar is a major leading cause of many bad effects.
After comprehending Brumann’s statement, I have realized that I am one of the many people who sometimes take in more than the healthy amount of sugar, but I also am good about everything in moderation. I do admit that I eat some sort of sugar everyday, but I watch

One side is physical. As I mentioned before, too much sugar can lead to health problems. Another side of the triangle is social. This is seen in society today because many teens go out and eat food. For example, a group of teens may go out for ice cream or eat candy at the movies which both have high levels of sugar. People often eat sugary foods at social events. Also, the social side of the health triangle can be seen in today’s society through obesity. Sugar can cause obesity, and many kids who are overweight are often bullied for their size. According to the Obesity Action Coalition (OAC), 58% of high school boys are bullied because of their size. Also, 63% of girls are bullied, teased, or rejected (1). Finally, sugar is connected to the mental side of the health triangle. This aspect of the health triangle can be related to the physical side. Someone’s feelings could depend on how they feel about their body and the way it looks. For example, depression has been linked to diabetes and other emotional issues (2). Glucose is a sugar that plays a big part in a human’s health and well-being. This sugar is a major source of energy for the body’s brain and cells. The Cells that receive energy from glucose help in the building of the body’s muscle and tissue. Although glucose may be important to the body too much of this sugar can cause a chronic condition called Diabetes. Diabetes, also known as Diabetes mellitus, is a chronic condition that is caused by too much sugar in the blood. This condition can affect all age groups. In fact, in 2010 a survey was taken by the National Diabetes Information Clearinghouse, on the number of newly diagnosed diabetes. Out of 1,907,000 people: 24.38% were ages 20-44, 55.17% were ages 45-64, and 20.45% were ages 65 and greater. Diabetes is a very serious condition, and it can be deadly if left untreated. This paper will help better educate the reader on the signs and symptoms, the testing process, and the management of diabetes.

In the documentary “Fed Up,” sugar is responsible for Americas rising obesity rate, which is happening even with the great stress that is set on exercise and portion control for those who are overweight. Fed Up is a film directed by Stephanie Soechtig, with Executive Producers Katie Couric and Laurie David. The filmmaker’s intent is mainly to inform people of the dangers of too much sugar, but it also talks about the fat’s in our diets and the food corporation shadiness. The filmmaker wants to educate the country on the effects of a poor diet and to open eyes to the obesity catastrophe in the United States. The main debate used is that sugar is the direct matter of obesity. Overall, I don’t believe the filmmaker’s debate was successful.
Most of the critics agree with the movie and highly recommend the film, although other critics challenge the film, saying it has inflated the facts blaming a single nutrient, sugar, may lead to overweight and obesity. In 1977, the United States Government produced a document titled, “Dietary Goals For The United States.” This document set the dietary goals we know today. The recommended carbohydrate consumption in 1977 was 55%-60%, with a 15% sugar intake. In 2010, that is the most current, it is recommended to consume 45%-65% and 5%-15% sugar intake. Research suggests that sugar may very well cause diseases that kill hundreds of thousands of Americans every year. With all that being said you have to understand how and why sugar has affected our people. You have to understand how sugar consumption is linked to Diabetes. You have to understand that even though it’s killing our people, Sugar is the most traded commodity for some countries, and if you took that away there economy would implode. Glucose is vital to your health because it's an important source of energy for the cells that make up your muscles and tissues. Glucose comes from two different sources, your liver and food. It's also your brain's main source of fuel. Glucose is made and stored in the liver. When your blood sugar gets low then your liver will use the stored glucose to keep your blood sugar level normal. If you have diabetes it means you have too much glucose in your blood. This is where insulin comes in. Diabetes is a growing epidemic in America's many nutritional diseases. There are a few factors that can cause or increase a person's chance of getting diabetes. Poor nutritional choices are a big factor in the cause of diabetes. The sad part is the increase is happening to the young children and teenagers in America.
