YouTube is an video-sharing organisation that was established in 2005 by Steve Chen, Chad Hurley and Jawed Karim who were former PayPal employees. It is now the 3rd most popular website in the world now and is currently owned by Google. Over 1 billion accounts are registered to the website and 6 billion hours of footage from the site is watched monthly. The success of the website has greatly benefited people’s lives and stories and has helped change world problems. It has also created many new businesses and has helped them become successful. Most of all, it has helped teach, inform and humour a incredibly large online community.

The content of YouTube basically covers every single topic that can be possibly be thought of. It can go from light hearted comedy sketches to cat videos to news articles from around the world that are easy to access and watch. The large amount of channels can add videos that can discuss any topic that they wish and can gain views and ‘likes’ from other accounts. This can be great motivation for the uploader to possibly continue adding content to the large community. This can turn into a YouTube partnership where they earn money from uploading high quality videos, meaning they can get a career from it. The fact that there is a large variety of videos uploaded can mean that anyone can be educated, entertained, inspired or can start a fire in themselves for change. A simple video can make a change a persons view of a certain subject, that person can continue to change other people’s opinions and so on.YouTube as a whole can be highly influential and can possibly change how the world views on different affairs.

The internet is often overlooked as there is often accounts of negative news stories related to it. However, with more and more people becoming successful because of the internet, why is it you never hear about it? The growth of people being able to sustain good lives from websites such as YouTube, why is everyone still wary about it? These are the questions that should be answered because once they are answered, a lot of worry should be lifted and even more progress will be made for the better.
