Success Through Ambition Success is all around us. As we look around, we see new technology advancements, new businesses being constructed, and personal goals being met. The world is constantly growing when success is achieved. There are countless, distinctive stories that end with a successful outcome and originated from various beginnings. Some of which we see within our own walls. Yes, we constantly look at the final product, but have we ever wondered how that success came to be? It is often not luck that brings success, it's the ambition. Oprah Winfrey, a woman of triumph, came from an atrocious background. It all started when my parents decided to make that treacherous trip across the border of opportunities. They were in search of success and knew that the only way they would achieve that would be by stepping into the country of opportunities. Eventually, when they found out they were pregnant, they were scared to have a child under their circumstances. They didn’t know if they could give me a good life in a place that is alienated to them. Now, they have lived here longer than they have in Mexico. My parents are living the American dream as non natives and their success all came to be when they decided to step foot into the puddle of ambition and into the United States of America. Oprah WInfrey, my parents, entrepreneurs and business owners all created their success stories walking through the path of ambition. Their stories, all are utterly different, yet belong under the same category that all success is indeed brought about by ambition. They are a few of the many that follow the ambitious journey to success. They all may be completely different people, but if there is one thing in common, it's the ambition they all have displayed to reach

Oprah Winfrey is a name that needs no introduction to most people in the world. Starting her journey with nothing, today , she has everything anybody could wish for and more. She has the money, the friends, the fame, the respect and as she repeatedly has pointed out as a comical comment, the shoes.

Oprah winfrey has played the role in modern american life, shaping cultural trends and promoting various liberal cause. Through her talk shows and books, she has focused on many issues facing American women. She has been an important role model for women breaking down many invisible barriers. Oprah’s success has influenced many women and young girls all around the world to become strong and independent. Oprah Gail Winfrey was born on January 29, 1954 in Kosciusko, Mississippi living with a poor Baptist family (Wikipedia). Her parents, Vernon Winfrey and Vernita Lee were unmarried and still teenagers during the time she was born (Wikipedia). She lived with her grandmother where she would learn how to read aloud and recite sermons by the young age of 3 (America's Beloved Best Friend). At the age of 13 she would move to Milwaukee with her mother and that's when the trouble would start (America's Beloved Best Friend). She would face sexual abuse and molestation from her family relatives as a teenager, by her cousin, family friends, and her uncle (Victoria Walker). Oprah would keep this a secret and would bottle up her anger, which lead to trouble (Victoria Walker). She would repeatedly run away from home and was sent to juvenile detention, but her admission would be denied because the detention's overcrowded area (America's Beloved Best Friend). At the age of 14 she was impregnated by one of her abusers, but the baby would become stillborn, and this would devastate Oprah (Victoria Walker). Her mother would send her to live with her father as a last resort. She vowed to change her life (Victoria Walker).
What is the source of your success? My own definition of success is about overcoming my obstacles and hardships. If I can’t overcome the obstacles and hardships along the way, then I will try again so that I am more prepared and have the right knowledge. I want to meet obstacles and hardships because I want to feel the pleasure of success when I overcome them. In order for me to overcome and embrace hardships, I need to find the missing link, have the right knowledge, and practice effective time management.
Oprah Winfrey is an inspiration to many all around the world. She did not have a very good home life up until the age of 14. She was abused as a child and did not see her mother very often because she was a housemaid who was gone almost every day all day. Vernon Winfrey, Oprah’s father, was a big service in her life when it came to keeping her in a nonviolent manner. Oprah also had her career going for her when she became Miss Black Tennessee at age 17. When Oprah became Miss Black Tennessee she was offered a radio broadcasting job and a full scholarship to Tennessee. Oprah had quite a few talk shows yet she made the most money off her own show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, and now has her individual network called The Oprah Winfrey Network. Oprah Winfrey’s influential style greatly impacted those who came after her in the entertainment industry.

Winfrey also hosted a show named “The Oprah Winfrey Show” which then became the highest rated talk show in T.V history. She is popular not only for her talent as an entertainer but also for her talent of giving and caring.
Although she has has a tough childhood from being pregnant as a teen, as well as losing her baby soon after he was born, Oprah did not let that stop her from being a well-known icon that changes the world as an independent woman. Source 2 states, “After a troubled adolescence… she moved to Nashville to live with her father…she entered Tennessee State University in 1971 and began working in radio and broadcast”. By this, Oprah did not want to let her past troubles get in the way of her education. Soon after, “Winfrey launched The Oprah Winfrey Show in 1986… the show grossed $125 million by the end of its first year” (Source 2).
First and foremost, Oprah is a great lady of business. Since Christopher Columbus landed on the shore of America, people have come here to follow the American Dream, a dream of starting with nothing and going to the top with the power of hard work alone.
