Alex – as you approach your 18th birthday, I want to give you something that you will remember and be able to look back on as you get older. You are growing up very quickly now - college, a job, responsibilities. As you continue to mature, I ask that you keep these things in mind. The following reminders and examples are, in my opinion, paramount to a successful life. Success does not necessarily mean money. Success in life is a happy life. These reminders will help you on that journey.
1. Be Aware
It is important to live beyond yourself. Being aware means paying attention to the body language, tone and pace of others. There are times you need to speak more terse and poignantly and other times more slow and flowerily. The situation

You get out of life what you put in. It is important to understand now and forever if you let life take you to whatever is next, you are very likely not going to live up to your potential. Life will drift you to the next thing and the next thing in progression but it may not be the best place for you. Pick out a point on the horizon and work to navigate the undulating terrain to reach that point. You have an infinitely better chance of success as defined as a happy life when you are intentional in your path. This does not mean you must plan every minute of your life. It does mean you should have a general sense of direction in most things you do. I have heard that setting a goal is scary – you don’t know when you set it if you will achieve it or not. The fact is you will be somewhere doing something at that point in the future so your purposeful input on that direction is vital you ending up in the right place for you. If you know where are you going, it is easier to get there. Don’t let life happen to you. Be …show more content…
It is imperative to be passionate about some things in your life. It is also important to be passionate about the right things in your life. If you become passionate about negative or hurtful things or causes, your life will be moving in the wrong direction – fast. Find something positive to be passionate about – your relationships, your career, your physical fitness or a worthwhile hobby. Passion gets you up in the morning thinking about your goal. Passion keeps you going when you are tired. Passion allows you to obtain the next level in whatever it is you seek. Over time, the things you are passionate about will change. That is ok and encouraged. As long as the passion is a worthwhile endeavor, you life will be enhanced by it. Be
My philosophy of success, is me growing into the person I want to become and being comfortable with the choices I decide to make in life. Success is not something I can achieve overnight, it’s something I must plan for then proceed to working hard for it as well. Without hard work, there isn’t anything successful about the job I want to get done or the job I wish to get done. Doing anything without hard work and dedication, and expecting the best outcome is not success; it’s mediocrity. Being mediocre/ will only allow me or anyone else to have a ‘Victim’s Mindset.’
They say if you love something, let it go. Yeah, I had a hard time believing those few words, for almost five years now.I met the first guy I fell in love with and whom I believed I was destined to spend my whole life with. I remember reading a quote or something like that by Plato, saying, “According to Greek mythology, humans were originally created with four arms, four legs and a head with two faces. Fearing their power, Zeus split them into two separate parts, condemning them to spend their lives in search of their other halves.” And I had sworn that I was sure he was my other half, that it was meant to be. Sucks though, when reality hits
“Follow your heart. Life is not a straight line there are lots of curves, circles, and detours. Each and every experience will give you something valuable. Keep close to those you love and who love you. Family is so important. Always do your best, be honest with yourself and others, have integrity, be dependable, like who you are, change what you don't like, keep learning, keep trying, you are better than you think.” (Rodríguez)
“Efforts and courage are not enough without purpose and direction.” said John F. Kennedy. Most people today have less concern about the purpose of lives. This lead to the the three questions which set by Dr. Clayton M. Christensen in July 2010 on the article named “How Will You Measure Your Life?”. The first question is will you happy in your career?, Is family the source of happiness? and Will you stay out of jail?. All these questions help us to think more about our “lives”. In the article, Christensen divided the topic into six parts and all parts are essential. In my point of view, I found that the most interesting topic is “Create a Strategy for Your Life.” because the clear purpose helps us to identify the meaning of life, create success and stop wasting time.
Success means to live a life in alignment with what brings us real joy. In my case, “success-joy” comes in many guises. At times, in being persistent with my current dreams, others, investing time and energy in what makes my life shine, and that is, without a doubt, when my life is at service of humanity and when I cultivate happy and healthy close relationships. I tend to define success as a state of being, a constant process of unfolding rather than a place to arrive. It is the journey of getting to know ourselves, in order to fully occupy every aspect of what we are; a forever changing aspiration, a state of being in which we realize that life’s greatest rewards spring from our capacity to relate to adversity in innovative ways. I have also discovered that real success shows up again when we debunk and deconstruct every single stereotype and assumption we have about ourselves. In this way, we feel capable to challenge what is commonly accepted as wisdom and then we have the opportunity to change and integrate our values with greater ones. There is an enormous joy when we feel free to play with the possible new scenarios that our imagination and creativity compelled us to try. A successful state of being is alert and grounded within us with the certainty, that the choices we embark on are in resonance with what we consider is the truth of what we are in that precise
Happiness is the main focus in life and should always be held most high according to Aristotle. He spends a great deal of time explaining how to achieve this we will see that, Aristotle was sure a genuinely happy life required a combination of many things. Which included physical and mental health? Bringing about a scientific way to look at happiness in its entirety.
Success is a term used by almost every individual person on this green and blue planet that we call Earth. Whether it is parents, college professors, teachers, bosses, co-workers, and inspirational speakers, they all apply this word to everyday life, however what does it truly mean? Success is a noun that, by definition, stands for “the accomplishment of an aim or purpose.” Although this is the official definition, society has a different definition for the phrase success. Society has defined the phrase success as being wealthy, having quite a few material items, having a stable well-paying job, and a healthy family as a side bonus. There are members of society
Lewis Carroll is quoted on the margins of page 86 saying that, “One day Alice came to a fork in the road and saw a Cheshire cat in a tree. “Which road do I take?” she asked. “Where do you want to go?” was his response. “I don’t know,” Alice answered. “Then,” said the cat, “it doesn’t matter.”” This quote demonstrates that without clear goals or plan for what you want you want to do with your life, you can get lost easily. I already have a life plan, others might not be as far along with their life goals, as I am, but that is not a bad thing, it just means that they have some searching to do. Being able to know what you want to do with your life, and how to get there, is an important thing to figure out, as soon as you can figure out what you want to do with your life. Discovering what you want to do in your life is often a good source of motivation to reaching your goals, whenever I start to struggle or fall behind in class I start to think about what is at stake for my future, and I ask the question, “what would I do with my life, if I couldn’t be a doctor?” Being able to have clear goals of what I want to do in my life allows me to look to the goals I have set for myself in life as a source of motivation, and work as hard as I can to reach them, even against all odds. There is good goal setting guideline that On Course
I believe that hard work is the real treasure of a person because without hard work we cannot achieve our dreams and goals in life. No one can achieve success without doing hard work. It starts when we stop looking for alternatives or shortcuts towards success. We need to remember that there are no short cuts to success. Hard work, complimented with an intense desire to struggle and to achieve success is the only sure way of reaching success that you have always wanted. Hard work is one of the secret for us to be successful in life. Laziness and sluggishness makes one’s life a curse and only hard work can make your life a blessing. We cannot work hard if we don’t have goals. The meaning of goal according to Wikipedia is a desired result of a
Having ambition to be successful is key in getting what you want in life. Ambitions of getting a great job, a family, and any other thing that will make your life more enjoyable is all do to setting goals. In life, it certainly seems that for most people, happiness is the end goal. People do what they do for many reasons, but quite often their motives are simply fueled by their desire to be happy. However, happiness is attained in many different ways. As Aristotle points out, happiness is achieved through goodness, which is also very complicated. After all, life is not black and white, and our actions are not just good or bad. Rather, our actions can have ends that are intrinsically good or instrumentally good. If they are instrumentally good, then they will allow us to attain something that we can "trade" for something else that will bring us happiness. For example, if we win tickets at an arcade, they would be considered instrumentally good because although they don't bring us happiness, we can trade them in for a prize that does. On the other hand, some things are intrinsically good. We want these things simply because we want them; they bring us pleasure or security. When we obtain these things, we are satisfied with them and we experience happiness.
The true definition of success is the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. Although, many people have different perceptions of success. Success is judged by the individuals themselves. Passion is something that drives your existence, something that makes you happy, but above all something that gives you a purpose to be yourself and enjoy your life. It’s hard to find a passion, for how can one single thing hold so much meaning in one’s life? Passions vary with each person, which is what is so amazing about the experience of it. Passion is different for all of us yet holds the same importance. I love helping people, I love coffee, I love chocolate and I love my job, but I am passionate about
You know when you understand what a word means, but can 't quite define it? For instance the word "the". Well there are many words you know, but couldn 't translate the definition if someone were to ask you to. That 's sort of how I feel about the word "happiness." Along happiness comes smiling, giggling, laughing, and positive vibes. It 's your heart 's way of smiling, metaphorically speaking of course. Happiness is defined as the state of being happy. Which to sum it up means the feeling of pleasure and contentment. Happiness is seeing your food come in a restaurant. Happiness is riding a bike without training wheels and not falling. Happiness is being content with your life and the people in it. Happiness could mean something completely
“The failure is the mother of success” this Chinese quote said that failure is not the end. Failure is where people learn from their mistake. People cannot be successful all the time. Indeed, there are many people who learned from their failures before being successful. Each failure that people had met is a helpful lesson and valuable experience to help them become a better person.
