These smaller companies may also expand once they are recognized as a company that is able to maintain a good service or product across the country or across the world. Rather than shipping their product, they may choose to employ people from a country that buys heir goods or services, thereby increasing availability and allowing those from the host country to be a part of the company. Certain countries, such as India, may provide services at a much lower cost than in the United States, thereby creating a greater profit for the company conducting the business.
Starbucks is a prime example of this type of business. Twenty-five years ago, Starbucks was hardly known. They had a small number of stores in the United States. They are now one of the most popular brands in the world, with almost 17,000 stores in 50 countries (Hill, 2012).
Vizio also is a success story for small business. They are a company that produces flat screen televisions, are known worldwide and have less than 100 employees. They outsource most of their engineering, all manufacturing and a great deal of logistics. Because it is able to outsource so much at reduced rates, the company is able to sell at discount retailers. They are also able to sell in volume. This gives the company a competitive edge against other retailers with more overhead (Hill, 2012).
With all of these things taken into consideration, it would appear that small business could benefit from globalization if properly managed.

Globalization is changing the world economy. Firms, even small ones, can no longer ignore events going on outside their borders because what occurs in one country has implications for the rest of the world. Individuals who believe they can act in isolation by working for a small firm are not being realistic, but rather myopic and insular. Today, thanks to advances in technology, many small firms sell and source internationally very early in their evolution, those that fail to take advantage of international opportunities may not achieve their full potential, and ultimately may fail as competitors that do recognize the importance of international business dominate.
Scott Szwast’s speech entitled, “Scott Szwast: The global business next door” was an informative look into international trade in America and the effects thereof to a business’s growth potential. Szwast used this speech to dispel the idea held by many American’s, which is that global trade is a market for large corporations. According to Szwast, many business owners don’t take advantage of the business opportunities across the world because of “self-imposed borders”, which are doubt, uncertainty, and fear.
Firms exist with the purpose of create and deliver economic value (Bensaco et al 2010, p. 365); therefore, business that create better economic value than its competitors will attain an advantage position in market place. Why would a company go international? There are many reasons why companies would go international, but generally a company goes international so they can seek opportunities in domestic markets, or they seek solutions to problems that cannot be solved through domestic operations. There are many profitable possibilities by going internationally and these include greater profit potential, offers new locations to sell products, it may provide better access to needed raw materials, it may access to financial resources from many nations, and lastly it may allow labour-intensive activities to locate in countries with lower labour costs. For a small business to become an international business they must use five guidelines the first is global sourcing, exporting and importing, licensing and franchising, joint ventures, and wholly owned subsidiaries. The first two are market entry strategies and the remaining are direct investment strategies.
According to the study , close to 80% of the “multilatin” corporations sustain a workforce abroad and 45% anticipate their foreign workforce will be growing in the near future. This new form of making business has forced changes in the profile of their recruits and of the people they promote. The profile of a successful executive in 2008 is much different from the one in the 90s.
Starbucks Corporation success in the coffee business has arguably been the most successful coffee chain in the past few decades. The company has been able to continue to attract customers even though they are not positioned as the lowest cost provider of coffee. Starbucks has been able to aggressively expand the business by attracting investors as well as selling their coffees for premium prices and increasing their profitability.

Nowadays, as globalization is becoming a popular trend around the world, business transactions have expanded to international scale rather than national one. As a result, businesses have to encounter more competitions than ever before, especially since Vietnam became an official member of the World Trade Organization. Realizing this tendency, I have determined to apply for the Master's Degree Programme in Management and International Business at Aalto University School of Business, which will provide “a research-based and practically grounded understanding of management and international business”. I believe this program will establish a strong foundation for me to prepare for my future business career in a multicultural context.
Each year we see how the world is becoming a smaller and a more crowded place. We see how society is crossing over physical borders and becoming a global society. International markets allow for job placement opportunities in foreign cultures but also come with unique challenges. Multi-national companies are now operating in new countries and markets. It’s a changing world and in order to be successful in this new world companies need to provide their employees the proper tools to do business in a new culture. Moreover, the company itself needs to be willing to adapt and change to meet the expectations of the markets.

With the globalization of a product, a company might benefit in many ways. First, by sifting its production or services overseas, the company can reduce its overall production costs due to availability of low-cost labor. Second, working collectively with other companies overseas allows companies to access technical knowledge or resources that are either unavailable or are too expensive at home.
Within every major economy, a great factor in providing the energy of the core of the nations economy is the small and medium enterprises. These cluster of firms are what provide new economic activity, new innovative products and services, along with growing employment and in general a crucial system in ensuring the economy is at a stable growth level.
