Having a Student support team is very important to a student. Especially when taking online courses. They need to know they have assistance and resources available to help them throughout he course. It important for the learner to have technical support if they are taking online courses as it is important to have a student advisor for anytime you feel overwhelmed or need some guidance. I'm a program coordinator, and I see how important my role is for student success. "One characteristic of institutions offering successful online programs is their ability to support the unique needs of distance students through a student support services function." (Three Actors that Contribute to Student Success in Online Courses: The Institution, Instructor,
The Varsity team lost to the JV team because they did not work together as team. Though the Varsity team consisted of high performing individuals for speed, strength, and endurance but together they lacked the cohesiveness to perform as a single unit. Also among them there were a lot of internal conflicts cropping up like blaming each other, lack of trust and confidence in the ability of others etc., which were not identified, or resolved at appropriate time. Each one did not believe he was working as a part of the team; rather they tried to maximize their individual capabilities alone. In addition the Varsity team lacked a strong leader, mostly people were disruptors.
My team consists of four other people besides myself, Lauren Chojnaki, Alexa-Louise Patnode, and Jacobe Loewen, and Ryan Tyriver. Together, we are tasked with the mission to complete a stakeholder analysis regarding a specific organization and their structure. For this project to be completed successfully, it is important that all team members are able to cooperate with one another and are able to use their different strengths to create the best end product.
This is very specific to my topic and I find this information important. Students must have a certain amount of IT skills to master the online learning environment. If the student does not have a certain amount of IT skills, they may not achieve to their fullest ability. The article mentions the chance of lacking in satisfaction of the online course, as well.
It is another extremely hectic Monday in the Emergency Department. The waiting room is building up fast with many new walk-in patients. Fire Rescue trucks are calling one after the next with several medical and trauma cases. The hospital supervisor is calling to inform the Charge Nurse of the Emergency Department that the Operating Room has several cases that need beds and will supersede the Emergency Department admits. Patient through put will now be further delayed. This is just one example of a typical Monday and why Teamwork and Collaboration are vital components to run an efficient nursing unit, especially in the Emergency Department. When a common goal is created to foster teamwork, health care professionals working cohesively together
In my years of experience with the Orange County Debate League, I have acquired priceless skills and experiences, whether it be debating or facilitating tournament operations. Back in the 7th grade, I expressed interest in joining the debate team at Fairmont North Tustin. Midway through the year, I volunteered to take pictures at the tournaments because I noticed that the league kept referencing to pictures and a photographer, but nobody actually took pictures. In my 8th grade year, I signed up to train to become a tournament administrator, but I quickly shifted gears and realized that the position was not for me when another opportunity came by, which was switching the tournament
According to Toseland and Rivas (2005), group dynamics are “the forces that result from the interactions of group members” (p. 64). These forces refer to either the negative or positive influences towards meeting members’ socioemotional needs as well as goal attainment within a group (Toseland & Rivas, 2005), like within my class work group experience. Some of dynamics that continue to emerge and develop in my group is the effective interaction patterns and strong group cohesion, which has generated positive outcomes and group achievement thus far.
The students who have the talent and desire to attend college but find themselves working full-time to provide for their families are the individuals whom may benefit the utmost from distance learning. This piece of technology gives them the ability to attend classes from the comfort of their homes. It may be that one income family where the mother or the father stays home to care for young children. The individual who does not have the ability to attend the traditional brick and mortar campus. Finally, that individual who is looking for a program that is not available in the town or city in which they
Explain how this student can be supported and accommodated in college. Special education staff provides assistance with counseling, identifying vocational interests, educational and vocational planning, goal setting, pre-vocational skills training, academic support, and linkages to specific programs and services (2010). Most colleges have a support disabilities counselor who will determine what accommodations the student will need.
A support system can be parents, spouses, children, or friends. With a support system, the student has someone to help with the household responsibilities and someone there to help the student to strive to achieve their goals. Their support system is the one that helps with the balance of everyday life and cheers the student on. The support can also come from a source like a school or church group. A support system also offers emotional support for the student. For example, my husband and family are my support system. They pick up the slack with the household chores and offer the emotional support I
Students’ needs and wants are dynamic and changing in nature. Previously, methods of delivering higher education academic degrees are primarily comprised of the classroom instructional model or approach. Now, there is increasing evidence that higher education must also address the basic personal needs of students by providing a comprehensive set of out-of-classroom student services and programs which also referred as student affairs or student services (UNESCO,2002).
... classroom instructions are more effective than online learning. Online interaction can be used as a supplementary tool to enhance learning, especially for students who tend to be reserved in the classroom setting. In developing online courses, we should realize that some courses may be more challenging to students who persist in the online environment. Course developers of such courses need to carefully analyse what are the specific subjects that may hinder persistence and supplement instruction with face-to-face consulting, advising, or tutoring. Although an online class offers a comparably effective learning alternative, we should recognize that online learning has its unique advantages and disadvantages.
So if a student does not have access to student affairs professionals online, what are they to do? Well, besides the challenges online students face, it is important that student affairs professional create online help to assist these students. I do not think colleges/universities will be able to hire professionals around to help these students, but something simple during the day will be acceptable.
The following article is a study on the effectiveness of online courses and their effectiveness in both teacher-guided assistance and non-guided learning. The author stated the problem of online learning for students, as being the distractions of the internet itself; online shopping, gaming and social networking. While two advantages of online learning includes the convenience of studying at a place of choice and independent work, students are challenged in staying focused or being disciplined enough to continue or even complete their course of studies.
In a K-12 setting, distance learning or traditional learning requires careful planning that must take place in order for the educational process to work for the students. When we look at both forms of education there are still pros and cons to both. Although online learning has made a major impact in the world of education, many people have not accepted this form of education. One of the reason for their concerns is that students cannot get fast answers to their questions about the assignment from the teacher. Another concern is that the students cannot perform effectively in a group collaboration that is taking place online. Also, students may not effectively do their homework from an online program. Lastly, some families do not have the technology at home for online learning.
