In the Webster's online dictionary, self-confidence is defined as confidence in oneself and in one's powers and abilities. A famous quote by Jim Loehr says, "With confidence, you can reach truly amazing heights; Without confidence, even the simplest accomplishments are beyond your grasp." Confidence in yourself does not come without effort. One must believe in themselves, and not let someone change their beliefs. In the novel Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, Jane shows self-confidence throughout the novel, by possessing a sense of self-worth, dignity, and a trust in God.
Nowadays, lacking self-confidence is a common human conflict. It can be caused for the society that values better and bigger; it can be hard to overcome people insecurities. Also, many people are afraid of showing their authentic personalities just because of other people, the society stereotypes and expectations. Moreover, a lot of people think about changing other people instead of thinking about how can they make some changes in their lives or make changes about themselves to be better in some different ways. Also, people usually try to be better than others just as a part of a competition instead of trying to be a better person or being better than the person they were before in order to improve their lives.
Confidence is having the trust in others and yourself in order to produce good results. For example, “Between man and the vegetable. I am not alone and unacknowledged,” ( Emerson). The quote proves that the person realizes where their place is in this situation. They might not have the best position, but they are confident with where they are. Confidence is a large key factor in today’s present day. Some people do not have much confidence within themselves. On the other hand some have too much of it. Some may get too into themselves, which means they have confidence but too much isn't so great.
Reading is an essential element in our everyday lives. What was the first thing that you learned in school? It was the ability to read. Exercising that ability by reading voluntarily keeps our minds active when we’re out of school. It is a supplement to our minds. The more you read, the more you know!
Confidence is a part in everyone’s life, especially self confidence. Every morning we all wake up and look at ourselves in the mirror and either like what we see, or don’t. We dress to impress. Guys do their hair and girls do their makeup. We do our best and never give up on ourselves, or we do the complete opposite.
30). In 2001, Bearden et al. affirm that self-confidence is correlated with people’s behaviors and their decisions in general. Individuals who have solid self-confidence express high level of self-esteem, self-regard and more sense of pride to themselves (Chuang et al., 2013). Their tendency is more optimistic in most of circumstances (Rosenberg, 1979) and when they are facing complicated situations, self-confidence plays an important role in supporting their decisions (Bearden et al, 2001). The characteristics of self-confidence indicated by White (2009) are trusted in positive accomplishment (self-assertion and optimism), persistence (endurance, flexibility, goal setting and anticipation) and self-awareness (judgment, intrinsic part and worries). On the other hand, the low level of self-confidence will make people feel pessimistic and less self-respect, they can only view their inappropriateness, imperfection and valuelessness (Rosenberg, 1979). Some researchers determine the determinants of self-confidence as precise knowledge and self-efficacy (De Cremer & Van Hiel; 2008). Self-confidence is not an inborn attribute, it can be shaped and progressed through the experiences of figuring out how to encounter with the
In the article 10 Benefits of Reading, the author Lana Winter-Hebert of Lifehack.org explained why reading is a mental exercise and can improve your mental ability. My reading habits are fairly frequent. I read a lot of magazines and online articles, but I never miss out on a good novel. The atmosphere of a bookstore or library is so comfortable and that drives me to read more, too. I am currently reading two books; The Name of This Book is Secret and If I Should Die Before I Wake. Considering I am constantly reading as recreation or school-wise, I think I read enough.
Self-confidence is the ability to have trust in oneself and abilities to do certain things such as physical and social activities. It helps with being able to make life changing decisions like going to college as well as creating a positive self image regardless of what society defines as beautiful or smart. By being confident at an early age, adolescents are able to shape the direction of their future because they are comfortable with what they have established that they can accomplish.
Self-confidence is believing that one contains the skills needed to complete a situation, it is the trust and faith one has with themselves. Self-confidence is extremely important for an individual to grow. For instance, the feeling of jealousy easily becomes triggered when one sees another individual performing better than them. Being inspired by the thought that one is traveling down their own path opens the mind to know that life is about breaking one’s own limits; at the end of the day humans are all the same. Just as Mark Twain said, “comparison is the death of joy.”
It helps you to keep things in perspective and back yourself when everyone else says that the task ahead is nearly impossible to complete in the stipulated time. A confident person has enough ability to understand his limitations and knows how to make up for that with his resolve and strengths. Our confidence has a big impact on how we enjoy life. A lack of confidence can lead to many negative things in our lives such as fear, poor body image, eating disorders, alcohol and drug abuse, jealousy, defensiveness, procrastination, anxiety, violence, depression and sometimes even suicide.
