The Primary Learning Center is my other community service project to help tutor students. I am academically ahead in coursework by a school year. Currently taking all AP/honors classes. Nursing is a special field of work that requires a well-rounded, dedicated individual with a vast variety of aptitudes such as: patience, empathy, respect, the ability to be detail oriented, creativity, social interaction skills, flexibility, critical thinking skills, and interpersonal skills. All of which I have been fortunate enough to establish and build upon through my education and 9+ years of experience as a certified nurse’s aide. During my undergraduate years in college I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to become when I “grew up”. I would study various professions and never felt like anything fit for me. One evening I sat down with my aunt, a nurse, and I was talking to her about how I couldn’t decide on a major and how frustrating it was to be in college feeling as if I did not have any direction. She looked at me with complete surprise on her face and said, “You aren’t applying for nursing school?” I stared at her for a moment because I was confused as to why she would ask me that. She chuckled and proceeded to tell me that she had always assumed that I would be a nurse because I spent several years of my life taking care of my 3 year old cousin who had cancer. For three years I was his caregiver and it had never occurred to me that I could make a living caring for people. I then spent countless hours researching nursing and what exactly nurses did. This was it! I had finally found what I wanted to do for the rest of my life! It took no time at all to know that I wanted to specialize in pediatrics. Throughout my clinical experiences in nursing school I have immensely enjoyed working on the Pediatric units as well as the Nursery. I am now absolutely certain that I am meant to be a pediatric nurse. Cook Children’s is recognized as a Magnet-designated hospital and is one of the best children’s hospitals in the US. Being a Cook Children’s nurse resident would allow me to fulfill my passion and dream of pediatric nursing. A residency at Cook Children’s would allow me to gain more experience and know...
“Nurses don’t wait until October to celebrate Make a Difference Day — they make a difference every day”, explains an unknown author. The intentions that I have for when I become a nurse practitioner are to aid and care for the sick, as well as I am able but also to assist doctors and staff as well as I am capable.
My interest in nursing is fairly new; I had not explored the potential that a nursing career can offer. I became familiar with nursing professionally after becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant. I now have a rewarding career working as a Medical-Surgical nurse on a Medical University Hospital floor that specializes in Transplant, Nephrology and Urology. Nursing encompasses the ideologies that fuel my passion, upon further research, and conversation with coworkers I realize my career goal of Family Nurse Practitioner; affording me the privilege to care for others by reaching out to various

Getting a job is probably the most worrisome matter for college seniors. I was raised in a very small town south of Fresno, called Reedley. As an able-bodied citizen, I considered my social class upbringing to be middle class because I always had the necessary resources, and many more while growing up. She taught me how to be strong and independent women. School was never easy growing up; I was always distracted in class. When I went into the forth grade one of my teachers wanted to hold me back, and I new that was not something I, or my family wanted. Since then I made it my goal to try harder in school and
