In my artifact for Program Student Learning Outcomes, I incorporated the use of information system and technology by applying knowledge of using technology to help me to be able to migrate errors and communicate. With the use of technology as a nurse it helps decreases the risks of a lot of error that are common. Like the electronic mar has decrease medical errors and helps the nurse to be more organized and effective in patients care. With decreases error, lead to less cost, and good quality care, and nurses can perform their jobs better, as well as technology helping with time management. For General Education Competencies, I demonstrated in my artifact the use of Information technology. Information technology: Learners will demonstrate
the ability to use computers, software applications, databases, and other technologies to achieve a variety of academic and work-related goals. In nursing practice, I use information technology by being able to use technologies such as, computer database to use programs such as emar, smart pumps, barcode scanner to be efficient with my care to better serve my patients. With the use of these technologies its help the nurse be more organized and cause less room for errors when working with the patient. For Baccalaureate Essentials Essentia I chose essential IV Understand information management and the impact upon patient outcomes, employ a variety of patient care technologies, maintain ethical standards related to data and patient rights. As a nurse, we must understand how to use technology to do our jobs, because we are in era where technology is almost used for everything we use. As well as, use different types of technologies, in the healthcare world we use several different technologies such as electronic health record, telehealth, ultrasounds device, etc. With the use of technology, we must be able to safeguard patient information. A lot of our patient personal information is stored in the EHR and we must do our best to protect their information always.
Working as an Instructional Technology Specialist for the past seven years has provided many opportunities to observe teachers and students in a classroom setting. During this time teachers have been in the process of phasing in a new standards-based curriculum with an emphasis on student mastery of these standards. New technology tools have also been incorporated in many classrooms including studen...
According to the author, nursing practice needs to stay current with technological advances while keeping its identity as a patient focused profession. Nurses use technology to improve care from a patient?s perspective, both in quality of care and cost. At the same time, nurses must learn to balance technological knowledge with personal skills, thus providing optimum clinical care while maintaining a person-focused relationship with the patient.
Information Systems/Technology and patient care technology for the improvement and transformation of health care is an important part of the DNP. Technology has transformed every aspect of human life in positive ways. Technology brought efficiency and improved healthcare deliverance system. Healthcare technologies enabled practitioners to better understand disease process and how to implement best treatment plan. DNP programs across the country embrace information systems and technology in their nursing curriculum because, it prepares nursing students to be innovative and deliver best care (AACN, 2006). DNP graduates must have the ability to use technology to analyze and disseminate critical information to find solutions that
After reading for this week assignment, I realized how in depth how useful informatics could be regarding which area of nursing practice you are at, and it is not just the use of computer when it comes to informatics. I would revise my definition of informatics is that informatics is the combination of nursing science, information science, and computer science. The use of informatics and technology helps to support the nursing practice, and it is associated with nursing education and nursing research (Mastrian & McGonigle, 2012).
It is helpful to connect the learning to a student’s prior experience. Teachers also need to consider the role of technology in their classroom.
My artifact is a behavioral management plan used during my practicum experience, and a lesson plan used during my student teaching experience. The behavioral management plan is intended for students in pre-k/kindergarten. The plan follows the theories of Piaget, Kolberg and Erikson. It shows preventive strategies to assist the management of the students in the summer practicum such as, using proximity, intervening early, gaining attention, facilitating students, having routines, stating rules and reinforcing positive behaviors. The plan is to assure that the students know their roles as well as the classroom rules and expectations. The lesson plan during my student teaching experience is on adjectives for a 3rd -5th grade autistic support classroom.
... problems and carry out planned change through communication and understanding. An important part in implementing positive attitudes and facilitating successful learning is the acceptance of technology by healthcare professionals staff members.
Not only can adults learn content through technology, they can also learn about technology itself (Merriam ad Brockett 1997) and develop the skills to use it competently. An example of the technology as curriculum approach is the course, "Exploring the Internet." Offered by the Georgia Center for Continuing Education, the 10-hour, noncredit evening course is designed to provide adults with the concepts and skills for using Internet applications such as e-mail and the Web (Cahoon 1998). The benefits of this approach include the opportunity to address each aspect of the technology in a clear, structured manner; little or no distraction from peripheral learning issues or goals beyond those of learning the technology; and efficiency in acquiring a discrete set of technology skills that can be applied in different settings. The major limitation of the approach is the narrow focus on the technology and the skills to use it. When technology skills are acquired in an isolated environment, they may not be easily transferred and applied by the learner in meaningful ways. In addition, if the learner lacks an opportunity for practice, the skills may deteriorate (Ginsburg 1998).
Technology is stated as the scientific method and material used to achieve a commercial or industrial objective. To go one step further, nursing technology is using a tool to advance nursing practice. “The Institute of medicine identified that technology as a viable method of enhancing patient care delivery and improving staff productivity” Sensmeier, Horowitz (2003 page). Because inadequate nursing staff causes shortcuts to be taken, there are mistakes made that could have possibly been prevented. Errors by nursing staff were variously reported as being responsible for between 44,000 and 98,000 hospital deaths per year. Sensmeier, Horowitz (2003). Technology can have a large impact on nursing. In the past 5 to 10 years, computerized patient records have increased less than 10%. This number shows us that we are still not embracing technology to its full potential. Today in most hospital systems computerized electronic charting is being used. Many hospitals have many different systems for...
Technology and innovation have transformed the way people function personally and professionally. In the past, writing and mailing a letter was standard but now most people send electronic messages and text messages to phones. Healthcare has been changing tremendously as well, not only are paper charts and records becoming obsolete, but now many facilities are sharing test results, visit information details, and prescribed drug lists. This move into the digital age has helped improve healthcare by cutting costs in the long-term, increasing efficiency with decreased wait times, and reducing medical errors. This evolving technology expansion, commonly referred to as nursing informatics has created many opportunities for nursing professionals with information technology experience to move into this growing field.
Technology is also used as a tool in the method of teaching and learning for faster and easier education. It is now an academic necessity in this global world and every student needs a computer to use online sources and textbooks, search and write the projects and do the online homework.... ... middle of paper ... ...
Posner (2004, p. 36) discusses the importance of understanding the situational factors that lead to the development of a particular curriculum. This curriculum has been created as a response to the problem of technology skills and resources being typically isolated as a separate curriculum, rather than being integrated into the broader curricular areas. This leads to curricula that are often devoid of 21st century skills needed by students to ensure future success (Partnership for 21st Century Skills, 2004). The goal of the curriculum, therefore, is to focus on specific technology skills that can be readily integrated into other curricular areas without sacrificing critical objectives within those curricula and, in fact, enhancing the relevance and levels of engagement in those areas.
I agree with when you said that Informatics has influenced nursing research and evidence-based research by making it more technological. Technology it allows people to have easier, quicker access to information they need. Technology is revolutionizing the manner in which health care is delivered. Health information technology is a great asset to direct care nurses and a strong safety benefit to patients. Admission its became so easy compared to when we were using paper admission. With information technology Patient are safer. According to American Sentinel University Data provided by informatics can help create understanding of how to better direct health care to improve patient outcomes and increase efficiency and effectiveness of
Technology properly used in the classroom has many advantages to a student’s learning. Technology can help students become more involved in their own learning process, which is not seen in the traditional classroom. It allows them to master basic skills at their own rate rather than being left behind. Teachers and students alike can connect to real life situations by using technology in the classroom; this can also help to prepare students for real world situations. Technology can be used to motivate students as well as to offer more challenging opportunities. It can also be used as a visualization tool to keep students interested in the subject that is being taught. When technology is used effectively, students have the opportunity to develop skills that they may not get without the use of technology (Cleaver, 2011). Assessing and monitoring students is easier on the teacher because of the ability to use technology in the classroom. When technology is used correctly it offers limitless resources to a classroom atmosphere.
Computer technology is one the most innovative advancements in modern-day education. Technology has made its way into the world of teaching practice and principle by expanding the way we approach instruction in the classroom. We are no longer confined to pencil and paper, but have the ability to project and present knowledge in an enhanced way to capture the minds of a generation of students whose society is built around ever expanding world of computer technology.
