The light turned red, and I hit the brake pedal. I looked over to my right and saw my little pixie friend covering her eyes with her hands, “What is wrong Alice? I have this thing perfectly under control.” A hint of annoyance dripped in my voice. “Yeah, I know Bella, you are doing fine. But it just freaks me out a little bit that Jasper and Edward refused to ride in here.” Alice finished finally opening her eyes and looking at me with a little bit of desperation. She sighed, rather loudly. “Alright, I’m sorry! I have the utmost confidence in you.” A small smile of victory began to spread across my face, and I quickly turned back to face the road so Alice wouldn’t notice. I had won. I was still pretty pissed at Alice’s brother Edward and her boyfriend Jasper. If they were so worried about me driving this, then why didn’t one of them offer? Whatever. Men, really who needs them? Not me, that’s for sure. A man is the whole reason Alice and I were even in this stupid U-Haul. I closed my eyes tight for just a second, didn’t want to freak my pixie friend out! I was NOT going to go there right now. I was 29 years old, a very self sufficient woman. I had been stuck with Mike for the last couple years, knowing we both weren’t happy. I got lucky three weeks ago. I won $25,000 on the daily lottery. It was the start of my new life. My mind was yanked back to the present, because suddenly Alice yelled out “Bella! You are going to miss the turn!!” Shit! I quickly changed the lane getting a beep from Edward and Jasper who was behind us. I was going to hear about that later, I am sure. I sheepishly looked in my rearview mirror to see Jasper giving me the finger. I shook my head; he would pay for that later. I made the left turn once th... ... middle of paper ... ... I couldn’t be happier for Alice. Alice quickly rushed over to me, “Let’s go get your truck. The boys have it under control.” She took my arm and led me over to Edward’s Volvo. I didn’t even bother to resist, my body hurt from packing everything and loading the U-Haul. It had to be done in a rush, while Mike was at work. He knew I was leaving though; he just didn’t want to accept it. I slipped into the passenger side of Edward’s Volvo; I had enough driving for right now. I inhaled the smell, it was leathery mixed with Edward’s cologne. I loved the smell of his cologne, Armani Attitude. It wasn’t just Edward’s cologne, it described him perfectly. I almost snorted. I could also make out hint traces of Tanya’s perfume, Armani Code. Yup, they both made me sick with their expensive tastes. I turned my head towards the window and began to watch the scenery fly by.
"Hey boy where are you going?" the driver shouted at Bill while he stretched his arms across the opening to prevent myself from stepping down. I stood waiting. "Where do you think your going?" he asked, his heavy cheeks quivering with each word. "I'd like to go to the rest room." I smiled and moved to step down. He tightened his grip on the
In the novel Perfume by Patrick Sϋskind, the protagonist Grenouille was a mysterious child, he was questioned by multiple people on account of him being without a scent. Ironically, Grenouille possessed a supernatural sense of smell. In the novel, Grenouille goes on to kill 25 young adult females. The scent these girls emit is what motivates him to carry out these murders. These murders are not out of cold blood. Grenouille uses the scent of these girls to create a mastermind perfume. Patrick Suskind uses such descriptive words that sensory imagery is inevitable.
Larson uses imagery to strengthen the reader’s understanding of the density of the scents in the hotel. By appealing to the reader’s sense of smell, Larson causes the reader to imagine smelling the scents so intensely that the reader feels that they are experiencing it themselves. Larson uses the phrases “ebbed and flowed” and “atmospheric tide” to emphasize the continuous cycle of the chemicals’ burning scent. The word “suffused” exhibits a gradual yet thorough dispersal of the odors. Larson uses the connotation of this to make the reader imagine the
"Got to...go quicker...or... they will...catch you again." I pant forcing my legs to go fast and suddenly a deer crosses my path forcing me to swerve and run head on into a tree.
Even though you will see us as a couple for the rest of the season on Don't Be Tardy, we are no longer together. He's not the man I thought he was and, as a result, my entire family and myself are disappointed. However, I'm young and have my whole future ahead of me and look forward to everything I can accomplish on my own.
As Monday morning rolled along, Molly gathered all her stuff at the door and yelled for her parents to hurry or she’d be late to catch the bus at school. With all her things stacked in the trunk of the car, her dad could hardly see past her purple suitcase in the rearview mirror, yet that didn't stop him from driving. When Molly and her family pulled up to the parking lot, it was packed with other seniors and their families, they had to park at the back near the entrance gate which was farther away from the bus she needed to go
I made a blank and emotionless expression and slouched. I tried not making any eye contact.
A gust of air audibly exited my lungs as I opened the creaky door of my mother’s beat up four door car. Charley didn’t have the same spring in his step that was present in his youth, but he did his best to run over and hop in. I wish he didn’t try so hard. My heart sank as he made vain attempts at pulling himself into the vehicle. I bent down and gave him a little assistance. He was quick to turn around and look at me anxiously. He never felt comfortable if I wasn’t sitting with him. I took my place in the back seat and slowly closed the door.
there was not a car in sight. Due to the fact that the road was "all mine", I
that I realized what I was about to experience. I stumbled to my seat, half
Scent within the novel Perfume by Patrick Suskind has been regarded as a supernatural element that transcends the physical realm and into the spiritual. In 18th Century France, Jean-Baptiste Grenouille is born with the supernatural ability to smell, while lacking his own individual odour. The power of scent is revealed to have manipulative qualities that shape the way an individual perceives someone based off odour. Suskind uses the characters of Grenouille and Madame Gaillard to convey the effect that scent has on the emotional spirituality of humans as both have a disability with their olfactory sense. Grenouille utilises the power of scent to create his own perfume which emphasizes scent possessing qualities beyond the natural world.
I was still debating on whether or not to go on the newest and scariest ride of Schlitterbahn. Anna was humming "Jon Jacob," and acting like it was no big deal. Tennessee was practically shaking and saying, "Everything will be fine. I'll ride the kiddy slide." She was joking, but I knew that thought was probably going through her he...
You’re driving along the road, just minding your own business when out of nowhere, BAMM. Another car just hit you, you’re frozen in shock unsure of what to do next. Finally, you snap out of it and realize what just happened to you. You get out of what’s left of your car and inspect the damage that’s been done. For some people this might just seem like a scary story, something that they never want to go through, but for me it is a reality.
The lonely empty silence is overpowered by a wall of foam rushing towards me. Wheels of sand are churning beneath my feet. My golden locks are flattened and hunched over my head to form a thick curtain over my eyes. Light ripples are printed against my olive stomach as the sun beams through the oceans unsteadiness. I look below me and can’t see where the sand bank ends; I look above and realize it’s a long way to the top. Don’t panic Kate, you’ll get through this. I try to paddle to the top but am halted by something severely weighing me down- My board. That’s what got me in this mess in the first place. I can see the floral pattern peeping through the sand that is rapidly crawling over it. I quickly rip apart the Velcro of my foot strap and watch my board float to the surface effortlessly as I attempt climbing through the water to reach the surface. The fin of my board becomes more visible to me as I ascend. Finally, an alleviating sensation blasts through my mouth.
... and went inside Kaylee’s room; I sensed her guilt and feet stomping downstairs and out the door. Did I go too far, or did she when leaving us? Kaylee cried consecutively for five weeks, I wasn’t versed in cooking or especially nurturing a child and I practically sacrificed my teenage-hood.
