I chose to talk about Stroke as a degenerative disease that is commonly found in Japanese Americans. 1.degenerative disease experienced at a higher rate among Native Americans (vs. American majority statistics). -Stroke is common in Japanese Americans but it is also a little more common in Americans because the lifestyles are different. A stroke is the acute neurologic injury that come as a result of an effect of ischemia or haemorrhage of the encephalon. Ischemia is caused by diminished supply of arterial blood which carries sugar and oxygen to brain tissue. Haemorrhagic stroke is due to intracerebral or subarachnoid bleeding and it damages the brain directly at the site of the bleeding by compressing the encircling tissue. Ischemic strokes can be embolic or thrombotic. Thrombotic stroke consequences from clot formation in the arterial blood vessel that provides blood to the encephalon, and can bear upon either large vessel or small vessel.
Stroke occurs when the blood supply to the brain is blocked or condensed. Blood works to transport oxygen and other beneficial substances to the body’s cells and organs, as well as the brain. There are two main types of strokes that are known as Ischemic strokes and Hemorrhagic strokes. When the blood vessels that provides for the brain becomes congested, is it referred to as ischemic stroke, the most common stroke within adults. Blood clots, a cluster of blood that sticks together, are the cause of Ischemic strokes. Ischemic strokes also takes place when arteries become backed up with plague, leaving less blood to flow. Plague is cholesterol, calcium and fibrous and connective tissue that sticks to the walls of blood vessels. Ischemic strokes eternally damage the brain and cause a person's body to no longer function habitually.Some risk factors that may increase stroke are high cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity. Strokes. Generally, whenever we hear about someone who suffered from a stroke, the result is never good. Why is it that strokes are so dangerous and why is it so important for providers to recognize them as early as possible? What do we do when we suspect a patient is currently having an active CVA (cerebral vascular accident)? All of these are excellent questions that medical providers need to affluent in.
Strokes are not only the leading cause of mentally disabling adults, but they are also the third most common reason for deaths worldwide (Jarvis, 2012). In general, a stroke, also called a “cerebrovascular accident,” occurs when blood flow of the vascular system is blocked from reaching parts of the brain (Jarvis, 2012). There are two types of stroke, an ischemic stroke or a hemorrhagic stroke, and they differ in the way they affect the vascular system. An ischemic stroke is the most common type of stroke, accounting for 80 percent of all strokes, and it is due to a thrombus or embolus blocking blood vessels supplying the brain (Durukan & Tatlisumak, 2007). A hemorrhagic stroke is less common, but is caused by the rupturing of a blood vessel in the brain and causes bleeding (Jarvis, 2012).

The animals that stroke primarily affects are humans. This is likely caused by risk factors that humans attain, such as cigarette smoking, high blood pressure, diabetes, high blood cholesterol, a poor diet, stroke occurring in ancestors, and physical activity/obesity. Stroke has is also starting to become recognized in cats, dogs, and rabbits. According to the World Health Organization, 15 million people suffer from a stroke worldwide every year. Of the people diagnosed, 5 million die and 5 million are permanently disabled. In the United States, 795,000 suffer from stroke annually. 85 percent of the diagnosed strokes are ischemic and 15 percent of them are hemorrhagic As for the humans diagnosed, three fourths of the people that suffer from a stroke are elderly (over the age of 65). This is caused by raising cholesterol levels and the narrowing of arteries as someone ages. Ethnicity, as well as age can also affect a person’s risk to fall victim to a stroke. Africans have a much higher risk of death from a stroke than Caucasians do. This is partly because blacks have greater risks of high blood pressure, diabetes, and obesity. In the United States, 19 out of 100,000 children are diagnosed with the Kawasaki syndrome. Usually children of an Asian descent are more likely to be diagnosed with the Kawasaki syndrome than those who are not of Asian descent. Also boys are more likely to develop the Kawasaki syndrome than girls. This disease affects a childs coronary arteries as well as their skin, mouth, mucous membranes, and lymph nodes. The Kawasaki syndrome also can not be transferred or spread from one child to another, it is not contagious.
According to the Alzheimer’s Association, in 2007, in the United States more than 5 million people were diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease ("Alzheimer's Disease"). Researchers call Alzheimer’s Disease a “progressive degenerative disorder of the brain” ("Alzheimer's Disease"). Alzheimer’s Disease is the most common form of dementia and a major cause of senile dementia (Xing, et al.). While recognizing the signs and symptoms of Alzheimer’s Disease is important, it is also important to realize that men and women react differently to the disease.
Dementia is an organic brain syndrome which results in global cognitive impairments. Dementia can occur as a result of a variety of neurological diseases. Some of the more well known dementing diseases include Alzheimer's disease (AD), multi-infarct dementia (MID), and Huntington's disease (HD). Throughout this essay the emphasis will be placed on AD (also known as dementia of the Alzheimer's type, and primary degenerative dementia), because statistically it is the most significant dementing disease occurring in over 50% of demented patients (see epidemiology).
Part two will explain the most common types of dementia that many older people are diagnosed with.
Japan is made up of 98.5% Japanese, 0.5% Korean, 0.4% Chinese and 0.6% other ethnicity. It does not seem that the small percentage of non-Japanese cultures have had much of an impact on the Japanese culture. Around 99% of the population speak Japanese and less than 1% of the population speaks Korean. Japan does not display ethnic, religious and class divisions in their social structure. Even 90% of the population consider themselves as middle class.
