Stress, The Invisible Tiger
I was assigned to read the book Fighting Invisible Tigers by Earl Hipp. The reason I was assigned this specific book is because I was at Oconto County Teen Court for fighting at school and told the panel I had an anger problem.
This book, I think, was a very good one for me because before reading this book I got angry at very little things, was stressed all the time, and didn’t know how to handle either thing. After reading this, I now know how to handle things that stress me and simply how to look at things differently so I can be happier and life be easier.
The first part of the book was the introduction. The main concept of then introduction was to point out that hundreds of young people feel stressed out by live, and I’m not the only one. I thought that was a good point to bring up because at times, when you have so much stress you feel like your all alone and no one can help or would understand. I use to be embarrassed and mad about the idea of going to a counselor because of the common misconception that only crazy people go to them and if you do your weird. After reading the introduction I realized that sometimes you need to let others help you figure out things about you and you cant do it alone. I now look forward to going to counseling, instead of dreading it, because I think of it as a way for me to vent and work on not getting upset so easily.
The first section of the book titled “Life in the Jungle” taught me the history of stress and lots of other things about it. Stress, I learned, is a feeling you get from everyday problems and challenges. When you get the depressed feeling its when you have reached your limit of internal pressure. Internal pressure simply is just the amount of pressure and stresses you can handle. I sort of had an idea that stress could, over a long period of time, mess you up in the head but what I didn’t really realize was that stress can also lead to illness’s, long-term depression, and even bigger problems.
Of course with learning about stress came some bad news. There is no easy way or quick way to manage stress, and you cant get rid of stress completely.
It has helped me so much individually that I had recommended it to my friends at other universities who are currently reading, as well as my father. From debunking myths about police, especially in this chapter, and tricks to get more overtime. Through my own, somewhat biased eyes, I had always thought that if the police would be called there would be a police car there in less than five minutes and a majority of the time there would be an arrest, but in reality that just isn't always true. A hidden theme that I found throughout reading the book was that with the events in just one year is enough to write an entire books, as you yourself could mostly relate
...l Muhammad’s Islamic forces finally took Mecca in an almost bloodless war. Throughout that time, Muhammad had established the Five Pillars of Islam, a creed and code which is considered obligatory for all followers of the Islamic faith consisting of rules varying from required prayer to mandatory pilgrimage. Eventually by Muhammad’s death, he had united the entirety of Arabian tribes under Islam. In Islamic tradition there are only two official holidays. The first is called Eid-al Fitr, which is celebrated at the end of a month of fasting. Generally this day Muslims around the world give Zakat, or charity in good faith. The second, Eid-al Adha, is celebrated from the tenth to the fourteenth day of Dhu al-Hijjah, which is the month of pilgrimage to Mecca. Traditionally on these days an animal is killed, it’s meat distributed between friends, family, and the poor.
Adolf Hitler was one of the cruelest rulers this world has ever known. During his reign Hitler caused enormous suffering for the Jews throughout Germany. Many Jewish families were torn apart by the cruelty of the Nazi party. This is one of the most tragic events in the world's history, is known as the Holocaust. Hitler was a very troubled man because he grew upon the hatred of Jews, he also ‘brainwashed’ many people into believing his idea’s, took away all of Jews rights and citizenship, formed the Nazi Parties , and even killed non-Jews.
The 5-year survival rate for children with ALL is more than 85%, children with AML have a 5-year survival rate of 60% to 70%. Reported rates for children with JMML are 50%. 5-year survival rates in children with CML aren’t very helpful because some live for a long time without the leukemia being cured, but the reported rates are 60% to 80%. Rates may be higher now with new medicines but they haven’t been used long enough to be sure.
New, I. N. “CT Screening for lung cancer: diagnoses resulting from the New York Early Lung
There are more than a million people suffer from cancer in the United States every day. Lung cancer is not the only type of cancer but it affects many people and families every day. Lung cancer makes the lives of its patients and the families. Lung cancer is one of the deadliest types of cancer and also one of the most common. Hundreds of thousands of people get diagnosed with lung cancer every year in just the United States. Also close to just as many people die from lung cancer in the US every year. I am going to talk about lung cancer and what it is, how to lower your risk of getting it, statistics of it, and the research and treatment of it.
Cells are generally supposed to go through a cycle, where they grow, divide, then die. Lung cancer cells however grow and divide, but never die, which is called apoptosis (Crosta). Lung cancer is by far the most deadliest cancer (Marks) because sign and symptoms do not appear early enough for you to get screened (Knowing). There are signs and symptoms that may appear but it all depends on where the cancer is located in the lungs. Symptoms may include: pain in the chest, intense coughing, difficultly breathing and swallowing, raspy sounds while breathing, and or coughing up blood (Crosta). If the cancer has spread to any other places, symptoms might include: fatigue, unexplained weight loss, weakness, swelling in the neck of face, or pain in the joints (Crosta). The reason many people get diagnosed with lung cancer is because they inhale dangerous carcinogens. Those carcinogens damage many cell’s DNA that “help” out cells so that they can grow into cancer. Things like tobacco, radiation, sun and car exhaust fumes are known as carcinogens (Crosta). Smoking, of course, causes cancer too. Smoking puts smokers at a higher risk than non-smokers. The more cigarettes you smoke a day and the earlier someone started smoking, the greater risk of them being diagnosed with this cancer (Lung Cancer). Secondhand smoke can be damaging and harmful just like regular smoking. The smoke
Lung cancer screening tests are recommended only for adults who have no symptoms but may be at high risk for developing lung cancer. There are three things you should ask yourself before being screened for lung cancer, have you smoked in the past 15 years? Were, or are you a heavy smoker? Are you 55-80 years old? There are three risks of doing screening tests. One is that it can be said that someone has lung cancer, when no cancer is present, which may lead to unnecessary tests, and surgeries. This is called false-positive res...
Likewise, lung cancer affects people who have never smoked due to the presence of radon and household pollutants. Radon has contributed to 10% of all lung cancer deaths and is considered second to smoking. There is no way to predict who will get cancer, but inherited genetic risk factors make some people more vulnerable to carcinogenic exposures than others. Lung cancer starts whenever there is an uncontrolled growth of abnormal tissue cells that affect the normal function within the lungs. As these abnormal cells grow they form tumors which can block the oxygen exchange within the body. (Lungcancer.org, 2014).
Lung cancer has been around for hundreds of years. Lung cancer is also the most common cancer. Death is almost absolute if not caught in its early stages. Lung cancer is hard to find because there aren’t symptoms in the early stages. Lung cancer found early enough can be stopped before it spread to other parts of your body. This isn’t definite because cancer can be dormant until later in life and it can be worse than before. Lung cancer can be avoided if you if you make the right choices and take right
"Stress is a natural physical and mental reaction to both good and bad experiences which can be beneficial to your health and safety." (8 Ways Stress Is More Dangerous Than You Think) Everyone 's body responds to stress by releasing hormones, also, you brain receives more oxygen. Stress starts to occur when we become worried about a task or responsibilities we face. Major stress is called chronic stress. It can cause symptoms that can affect your health in a larger way. However, stress can motivate someone while under pressure and even get you through a tough or dangerous
Overall I enjoyed reading this book, I read it a few years ago in high school, but I took more from it this time and was able to apply it more to my experiences and events I have witnessed. I’m glad the novel was assigned for me to read because it really made me think about the world today and how we interact in the world. It actually brought up questions and connections that I didn’t see when I read the book years ago. This novel will always be relevant and I’m sure will be read years from now.
Stress is defined in the dictionary as “state of mental tension and worry caused by problems in your life”. Everyone encounters stress in their life caused by many different variables in life and we all cope with in different ways. The way one copes with the stress is how it can affect our body. Some take to working out, eating healthy, take breaks from what is stressing you out and getting plenty of sleep which are good ways to cope with it. Some take to other coping mechanisms that are not very great for the body. Some examples are stress eating, abuse of drugs and alcohol, bottling up the stress, and depression. These bad methods can cause serious damage to one’s health on the body.
Stress is not something to be avoided. Everyone feels stressed from time to time and it depends on people that may feel stress in different ways. Not all stress is bad but it depends on how peoples take it. The words “stress” is something all of us have experienced but it seems that there are many different definitions used by psychologist, medics, management consultants or others. Psychologists describe stress as “demands of life” which pointed out as “stressors” and stress is the cause of the worn out tissue of our body (Meenakshisundaram, 2012, p.101). Stress can be divided into four types which are eustress, acute stress, episodic acute stress and chronic stress (illustrated in Figure 1).
If you perceive stress in a wrong way, you won't be able to defeat it. That's for sure!
