Everyone has some inner strength which needs to be found. It could not be located unless there is a vital need for it. A boy who cannot even walk properly can run as fast as any other if he is running for his life being chased by an animal. Adversity brings out the true strength of a person. Although in some cases a person becomes so tensed that he gives up, but in most cases difficult situation brings out the best a man can offer. Many of the famous personalities sought strength through adverse situations. There are examples of children who, under difficult situation, found courage to change their lives. Countries like Japan held no place in the world, yet they sought strength through the difficult conditions and came into the top countries of the world. It is also scientifically proved that an adverse situation makes one perform much better than one normally can. It can be seen from the life of the famous personality, Steve Jobs. He went to the Reed College in Portland, United States, but dropped out after the first semester because it was too expensive to afford. He started doing a part time job for three dollars dressing up as cartoon characters. From the beginning he had an interest in the electronics but could not prove his potential. After dropping out of the college when he had to face the hard realities of life he discovered his true potential. He developed the touch screen technology. He became the father of digital revolution. It was only possible because he had to face the adverse situations and do something for his survival. In such circumstances a man could find his true strength just like Steve Jobs found it. When a person is in difficult situation he tries to use each part of his body to overcome it. His whole con... ... middle of paper ... ...e has to fail a couple of times to surmount the situation, but failure in itself is the greatest lesson. It removes one’s fear and gives courage to face failure. So, a boy having an issue of stage fright might fail to perform a couple of times, but a time would come when he would no longer be afraid to go onto the stage; and that would be his moment to shine, to show his real talent, his real strength. People are much stronger when reacting to difficult situations than normally. They have to survive and live in conditions they are satisfied with and to achieve that they have to be strong. The time of crisis brings out the best in everyone. Many successful writers, sportsmen, engineers, doctors etc. sought their strengths in difficult conditions. From highly developed countries to a normal person, everyone reaches its true potential under the adversity of situation.
The novel Warriors Don’t Cry by Melba Pattillo Beals has many themes that are shown. One of the major themes that stuck out to me was inner strength and perseverance. Inner strength means to have Integrity of character: resoluteness of will: mental resistance to doubt or discouragement. Perseverance means steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success.
Examples of this are people like Bill Gates and Steve Jobs, who were the perfect age during the computer revolution in 1975, when the personal computer was invented and made widely available. However, not every person born in the same year as Steve Jobs and Bill Gates became a multimillionaire. Why? The ones who became successful were those who took a risk, and were willing to work hard to make something out of the computer revolution. When looking at people who gained their success from the invention of personal computers, Gladwell points out that “These are stories… about people who were given a special opportunity to work really hard and seized it” (67). One of Bill Gates’ advantages was that he went to Lakeside High School, which had a computer lab in a time when most schools did not. Everyone at Lakeside had access to that computer lab, but only a few students grew up to be the creators of the world’s best computer companies. Those who became successful were the students like Bill Gates, who worked hard in that computer lab and grew up to be world-class programmers. If someone is given unique opportunities but is not willing to seize them, they will not gain any success from those opportunities. Success is self made because in order to be successful, one must take advantage of the unique chances they are
Adversities are often given a negative connotation and view, as most consider them to be hurdles which impede progress. Nevertheless when taken in and accepted under a positive light, adversities can serve as stepping stones through which an individual can better their character. In the face of looming obstacles individuals who persevere come out of the situation as stronger, determined, and more hopeful for the future.
Resilience is having the motive to go through hard times and ‘bounce back’ from them and learnt how to deal with certain situations. To be resilient you must have a positive point of view on life. Anh’s book ‘The happiest refugee’ He was born into a 1970’s Vietnam, He and his family were forced to leave their country due to seeking safety and freedom from war. Anh uses resilience through his comedic, selfless actions. Resilience has allowed Anh to improve the quality of his life, and the lives of those around him.
Statement: The ability for an individual to endure hardship is a testament to the endurance of human spirt. The ability to defeat hardship isn 't something everyone has but I assume that having that ability is something that should be an essential human quality.
Many people who have succeeded in life have faced hardships. Hardships give people the opportunity to overcome difficulties and came back stronger. That is why hardships can strengthen a person.
For example, say a person was just laid off from a job. Sure it will be tough to not have a steady income stream and tough to not be working alongside the friends you have made, but that person has to be resilient and persevere through the tough time and head back out on the job hunt. Almost anywhere would be looking to hire someone if you search deep enough. For another example, let’s say someone very close to you in your family has passed away. It will be a very tough mourning period, but everyone in the family has to be there for each other and be resilient, not letting the sadness take over. Humans can be resilient if they want to be, it’s only a matter of when they want to
Success without adversity is impossible. Everyone in life has their ups and downs and nothing in this world is perfect. At some point in life, hardships begin to occur and that’s when the real test begins. Some people rise up and try their absolute best to take a stand against the challenge. Then there are others that would crawl back into their shells, crying for mercy. There should be no excuse for giving up or not putting in the effort. People are only successful in winning the battle of adversity when they are mentally tough. The intense game of adversity can be referred to football.
A person’s character is developed by the surroundings around them as well as their experiences. The Roman poet Horace quotes “…Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents in which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant…” I agree with the Roman poet, Horace, in that adversity has a way of waking talent from slumber. Adversity can encourage people in ways success and wealth cannot, as there is a benefit in the hardship. In Henrietta Lacks, by Rebecca Skloot, as well as Macbeth, by Shakespeare, adversity has developed the characters. From my observation, I strongly agree that experiences, such as hardship and danger, shape a person.
Mr. Green said, “The real hero’s journey from strength to weakness.” Surprisingly the uniquely unwanted situations created by these phases is the best part of the game called “life.” It is the journey that matters, because the harsh truth is, that the destination of human kind is death. A great example of one of these phases would be a college student graduating and stepping into the real world. The strength in is this particular situation is the college degree that is obtained by the student and just the feeling of being at a good point in life and just the great satisfaction , until of course the weaknesses slowly builds with time in this entirely new phase called reality. Many students come to realize after college that the amount of money they need to pay back in student loans is extremely enormous and that to for a person that doesn’t have a job. On top of that in the real world, you’re nobody with no identity and most the time people just don’t care for you. So you start to feel worthless even with a college degree and you just have no support system to guide you to your comfort zone. However there is good news also. Mr. Green says that due to the situation, it will help a person not be a jerk. Which is always good to have morality on your side. In this stage of life a person has to work hard make his/her identity and become self-motivated to find a great job. Which helps a person grow in their experience in their field. These stages only do well for people and makes them a stronger person. Every phase is like a test once you pass you’re ready to start again on the bottom of the next phase. Then the cycle just repeats and this will help you empathize or even be a mentor to a
Resilience and hardiness has long been a topic of research and discussion within different paradigms and fields of study, for example, in military psychology, psychiatry, health statistics and measurement, medical anthropology, education, medicine and organizational settings. Resilience means the skills, abilities, acquaintance, and insight that accumulate over time as people struggle to conquer adversity and meet challenges. It is an ongoing and developing fund of energy and skill that can be used in current struggles (Saleebey, 1996; Liebenberg, 2005).Most commonly, the term resilience has come to mean an individual's ability to overcome adversity and continue his or her normal development.
Around the world many people are faced with adversities and constant obstacles in the life that they will have to overcome. People often have to face adversities such as death, poverty, illness, disabilities, and environmental issues on a daily. Many people can overcome the adversities they are faced with, while others may struggle and need help overcoming their situation. Never the less if a person fails or succeeds at overcoming their situation this is still a part of their resilience.
Strength is a term with many definitions. What does strength mean? Anyone can sit down and start to write down their strengths but, how many different types of strengths are there? There are personal strengths, mental strengths, and spiritual strengths that all have a positive effect on people’s lives. Throughout life, strength is what helps overcome the problems we face. Strength is defined by Dictionary.com as “a good or beneficial quality or attribute of a person or thing.” No matter what kind of strength different people in society have; strength is something gained through personal experiences and life. Strength is having the mind set to overcome all of life’s challenges and battles.
The word, strength means the power of exerting muscular force but theres also inner strength which is the overcoming of obstacles when others told you it couldn't be done. Strength is to wake up every morning and think, not what could I have done, but what I can do in the future and also being able to try again instead of giving up. Once one has pushed through their mental barriers, they continue to push through harder barriers and thus, they become stronger inside. Inner strength shows that you should live life to the fullest and that you have the power within yourself to rise above the things in life that try to hold you down and that you should not give up. You have the strength to continue on when things seem to be at their worst.
People don't truly accept life for what it is until they've actually tasted adversity and went through those misfortunes and suffering. We are put through many hardships in life, and we learn to understand and deal with those issues along the way. We find that life isn't just about finding one's self, but about creating and learning from our experiences and background. Adversity shapes what we are and who we become as individuals. Yann Martel's Life of Pi shows us that adverse situations help shape a person's identity and play a significant role in one's lief by determining one's capabilities and potential, shaping one's beliefs and values, and defining the importance and meaning of one's self.
