My Strengths and Weaknesses as a Writer
There are no perfect writers on the planet we call Earth. Perfect in which they have no weaknesses in their writing. Everyone has their own highs and lows pertaining to their writing abilities. Through my experiences with writing essays in high school, I noticed a few strengths and weaknesses in my writing.
The primary strength in my writing is the structure. To be concise with wording comes effortlessly to me, and therefore I do not ramble on to tangents. Another strength of mine is writing about topics that interest me. In these cases I can spill all my thoughts out onto paper and do not need to worry about having enough sentences. The class divided into groups of four and edited each other’s rough drafts. The activity was an eye-opening experience because their comments towards my essay assisted me while I created the final re-draft. Several of the comments were positive and pointed out that the structure, organization, and examples given were well done and thought out. This feedback gave me a sense of satisfaction with my essay. I was thankful that one of the reviewers pointed out that the thesis was missing at the end of the first paragraph. The thesis that I constructed was placed at the beginning of the first paragraph. I rearranged my sentences and added a proper introduction to correct the structure of the essay. The editing took a while, but I was pleased with the final outcome. Without the peer review process I would not have noticed this major mistake. With future essays, I will be turning to my classmates for advice because hearing feedback from other points of view is helpful. I will consider every comment that I receive, knowing that working on them will allow me to produce a higher quality of
Several people have trouble writing college level essays and believe that they are unable to improve their writing skills. In “the Inspired Writer vs. The Real Writer,” Sarah Allen argues how no one is born naturally good at writing. Sarah Allen also states how even professional writers have trouble with the task of writing. Others, such as Lennie Irvin, agree. In Irvin’s article “What is ‘Academic’ Writing?” states how there are misconceptions about writing. Furthermore, Mike Bunn’s article “How to Read Like a Writer” shows ways on how one can improve their writing skills. In “Two Questions,” Lynda Barry introduces the two questions that haunt many when writing: “Is it good?” and “Does this suck?” She explains how these two questions are developed from life experience and the need to please others. Over my career of schooling my writing has changed dramatically at times and very little at others. Through my years of schooling people have determined my main weaknesses and strengths that I should work on with my writing. My biggest weakness is writing introductions and conclusions they must be so complicated and require so much thought to be defined as good. I excel at writing body paragraphs and explaining all the facts that back up your main ideas though.
Throughout this semester we have had to write many types of essays. Although this is a college English class there is still room for improvement. I made much improvement during the semester of the class. I was able to identify my weaknesses. I learned how to make improvements to the areas I was having problems in. Although each essay we did was different I was able to begin with one essay and throughout the semester turn it into two other essays. I was able to change my style of writing to fit the type of audience I was working with. I will continue to work on my writing and keep improving it.
These strengths and weaknesses were mainly discovered through the papers that we have written. I have many strengths when I’m writing papers and at the same time, I have many weaknesses. In my papers, I have noticed that one of my biggest strengths is how articulate I am. The papers that have been written by myself show that I structured sentences to present ideas in different ways. It is not straightforward and boring when ideas are presented. I like to keep the reader hooked on my paper. In order to keep up with this strength, I like to read articles. The articles I read are typically the ones that present new ideas or start arguments. This is one of my strengths that I am very proud

Writing has never been my strong suit. I’ve always been more of a math girl. I just feel math comes easier to me, because in math there is one solution to a problem. It would be less frustrating for me if there was a clear formula in writing a perfect essay. I feel when assigned an essay I freak out on how to make it seem smart enough and clean it up enough to at least a “B” essay because I know getting that “A” is a stretch. The most frustrating aspects of writing for me are writing the hook, the thesis statement, and being my own worst critic.
My journey through high school as a writer has been quite fruitful. I have refined many of weaknesses, including organizations and introductions, and am still perfectly some as I go, like time management and conclusions. I learned that there is no such thing as a perfect paper; there is always room for improvement in my writing skills. Also, I have learned to see my writing through different perspectives and portray abstract concepts in my work. In the years to come, I hope to learn even more from my instructors and develop a unique writing
This essay taught me that even though I was learning a lot from this course, that there was still room to improve. Likewise, I ended up with the assumption I had done great on this essay since I wrote about a topic I enjoyed, makeup. I was proven wrong. The evaluation paper called for evaluating and expanding on the quotes you had provided in your paper, something I wasn’t as familiar with until this class. I didn 't do so well on this particular essay but I had the opportunity to learn from my mistakes. Mrs.Robinson gave a get out of jail free card when she said we could rewrite one of our first three essays and this was the essay I chose. After revising this essay, I truly feel like I understand more about the editing process. I went back and checked each paragraph to make sure everything was perfect, changed word choice, and looked over and over for grammatical errors. Because of this I now know that I need to revise the essay before I turn it in since every writer makes
One strength I had was the organization of the essay. My sentences I wrote were not all over the place each paragraph talks about one topic. One weakness I had with writing this essay was my writing style. I noticed that in this essay my writing style was a bit choppy. I should have read my essay out loud to see if it had a good flow between my ideas.
One strength I saw myself, as having when I enter college is being able to understand and critical think about a essay/article that I have read. However, after taking English 101, I have now learned that this is a strength of mine as well as a weakness.
The strategies that I will use in my final draft are making sure my writing is in the third person, double check my in-text citing format as well as double check the wording to make sure I am using the correct words and grammar. I really appreciate the instructor’s feedback from this essay and the reflection. Sometimes we are our own worst critic and after I read my work several times, I still do not feel confident in my abilities. However, every time I get a feedback from the professor. I am more and more confident, that I made the right choice to go back to school and that, I will be successful in my new chapter. In this paper, I am to write about my strengths and weaknesses in writing. This is not an easy task for me because I have never considered myself a writer. Reading other peoples thoughts are activities that are more my speed. I simply have trouble putting my thoughts into writing. Since, I do not feel that I have many strengths, let's move on to my weaknesses.
My strengths as a writer are that my papers are very well developed, they have always been graded and ranged from a high B to an A. I always meet the requirement, but I don't add as much detail as I should. I have a good style and organization. I always make sure to keep my papers in order. All of my papers have spelling errors but is not bad enough for the reader to get confused while reading. Readers can easily follow my papers with no struggles. I use a variety of simple and complex sentences to structure my papers. I do get quite a few comma splices, but never to many run-on sentences or fragments in my paper. My papers do have a good word choice that include imagery and figurative language. I don't use super strong verbs in my papers and I also have grammatical errors in my papers as well.
The subjects that I have difficulty in don’t reside in school education classes. Making friends and speaking aloud are my greatest flaws. From kindergarten to the end of middle school, friends were kind of just handed to me. Age 5-11, kids have the ability to make friends with no regard race, gender, social status, etc.
