The Dangers of Street Racing
Hollywood has a tendency to glorify negative things that can only be safely done on the big screen. The use of drugs, heavy partying, and other outrageous lifestyle choices that do not play out well in real life. The movie franchise Fast and Furious has done a fantastic job at doing that with illegal street racing. The films provide unrealistic expectations that make controlling a car at such high speeds look simple. People then get the idea to give it a try and it does not end how they imagined. Street racing involves other activities beyond the act of driving of a car. Not only does the hobby pose a high risk for deadly automobile accidents, but also gang related

activity and illicit gambling according to the “Street Racing” article by popcenter.org. The NHTSA states that approximately one in every three deadly car collisions involves speed, according to nsc.org.
Speed creates more of an impact on the body in car accidents, and can cause damage to a person. Speeding in an accident can make a vehicle spin out of control, flip, and even catch fire. Over thirteen thousand people die because of high speed accidents annually. (National Safety Council) Not all of the fatal crashes are a result from illegal street racing, but also from drivers under the influence and safe drivers who are only speeding slightly. ABC News suggests “No national numbers or statistics exist on the occurrence of street drag racing, but nearly 100 people die annually in California alone, according to the California Department of Motor Vehicles.” One source from CBC News says that one Canadian dies each week from street racing due to the high street race occurrence …show more content…
there. National statistics would be difficult to acquire do to the underground antics that come with street racing; it is quite difficult to catch them. According to popcenter.org, street racers are now more prepared for police activity. They have lookouts who use police scanners in order to see if there are any officers in the nearby area, and they post on certain websites how likely it would be for the police to catch them. Also it would not be right to put a statistic on something that is not prevalent everywhere. Areas where cars are not in everyday use would not have high rates of street racing, because automobiles are not common in that area. Areas where street racing has a high impact besides the United States are areas like Canada, Turkey, and South Africa. Street racing is not just about racing for fun in most cases.
Money, reputation, and other things are going on, and not just anyone gets involved in the activity. The typical age for someone to be involved in illegal racing is sixteen to twenty one years old according to multiple sources including ABC News and popcenter.org. Most of the time gangs are associated with the illegal hobby. Gangs are illegal themselves and often bring trouble with them. In order to get the car in race ready condition, these gangs may steal or traffic parts, and commit automobile theft, according to the Center for Problem-Oriented Policing. Even if a person who is racing is not a member of a gang, they will more than likely still encounter gang violence or harassment if bets are not paid up. When people get involved in a gang type environment, they usually end up dead or in
jail. Illicit gambling is a major part of the illegal street racing scene. Gambling is illegal in most places, especially if it is done for business purposes. For example, if the racer is working for someone, and that person gets some of their profit, it is illegal. Before a race, the people who come out with their cars will bet money, parts, or other valuable items on who the winner of the race will be. In some cases, a person will bet their car and the person who loses the race will have to give up their car to the winner. This can create mishap if a person truly does not have the money to pay for a bet they lost, or if they try to run off with whatever item they were supposed to give up. This is where street racing becomes dangerous off-road too. If a racer does not pay his or her dues, then fights will occur and create a stir at one of the events. Many dangers are involved in the street racing hobby. Speeding car crashes that result in death of bystanders, racers, and innocent people, becoming involved with gang violence and activity, and gambling. No matter what, everything involved with street racing is illegal. Most people who do illegal things, end up getting caught one way or another. Measures are now being taken to put more teenage kids, who love the thrill of speed, onto race tracks because it is much less dangerous than being out on the streets. Some race fans would love to have an opportunity to be a part of a race team. If you receive a great opportunity to do a job you have been dreaming about, then you should take the opportunity. If you don’t take the opportunity that you received, then you don’t know if you will ever see that same opportunity. 22 year old Cody Higginbotham has been receiving many great opportunities since he was 12 years old.
Training a barrel horse can be lessons because the fastest racers want to be a champion. Training a barrel horse is a timed event where some of the fastest time is what matters the most. (‘Rodeo.about.com”). Speed is what it is all in the training. The riders enters the arena at full speed, quickly rounding each barrel in a clover leaf pattern and then exiting where they entered. Training , is a rodeo sport, it requires the correct equipment, and intense mental and physical training for both the rider and the horse.
The green flag drops on the first race in The National Dirt Racing Association(NDRA). It doesn’t matter where people go, on some little road in a small town, people will find a small dirt track. The speedways are mostly always located in city areas where a large amount of people live. After a weekend of racing the teams head to the shop to fix the car up again. Despite the fact, that racing had been around since before 1978; whenever Mr. Robert Smawley introduced NDRA, and later Mr. Bill France introduced NASCAR, more people paid attention to the sport of racing.
“Short track racing is always been a way of life and not just a hobby” Bryan Clauson. There's always been people into dirt racing as it is personally my favorite form of racing. This sport isn't all to safe as there has been a massive tragedy in 2016 of Bryan Clauson as he died at the Belleville Midget Nationals. This tragedy sent a shockwave through all sports from dirt to asphalt racing. There is a commitment when you strap into that racecar and that is there's no guarantee that your going to get out so there's always been losses and historical moments in dirt racing. There isn't always tragedies there's famous moments like the 2016 Dream at eldora when a 19 year old kid Bobby Pierce Jr. won the world's most famous dirt race. 2017 will bring new stars like Rico Abreu which has already committed to dirt from nascar and has already won 2 golden drillers from the world's most prestigious midget race, chili bowl nationals in Tulsa Oklahoma .
A Mark IV Toyota Supra and Chevy Camaro SS pull up at a red light on a lonesome stretch of flat road amongst a dimming blue sky; the drivers nod at one another, rev the engines, and jam the accelerator pedals. When two drivers try to outrace each other on public streets, automobile driving makes a turn into the illegal form of motor racing known as street racing. Several possible causes to this aggressive street driving include a recent release of movies that inspire racing by the desire to fulfill the adrenaline rush raging in young people, the overall convenience of street racing, and most importantly, a way for teenagers to achieve nobility status in a short a time.
Speed may cause you to have a stroke or a heart attack and this can cause long-term health problems or even death.
Based on available resources, 40000 people die each year in car accidents. This figure is an intimidating figure because it show the occurrence of death in a crash. In this accident, the leading cause of death is people under the age of 35 years old. Safety belts can prevent death in about half of these accident.
Speeding is the third most common factor in vehicle accidents in the US, costing 13,000 lives a year. Some of the reasons behind speeding include: driver's being in a rush, the need for adrenaline, and their belief that they won't get caught, or that laws don't apply to them. Speeding not only shortens your reaction time, but also your control of the vehicle as the faster the vehicle goes the more any sudden movements can affect it causing to flip or slide into another car, which may cause a fatality, maybe not to yourself but to
This paper is a look at the physics behind car racing. We look look at how we can use physics to select tires, how physics can help predict how much traction we will have, how physics helps modern cars get there extreme speed, how physics lets us predict the power of an engine, and how physics can even help the driver find the quickest way around the track.
Since most Asian Americans in the late 70s and 80s drove Japanese imports, they could not compete with the much more powerful Detroit muscle cars. This resulted in a street-racing scene consisting solely of modified imports. But a lack of aftermarket parts to make the various Toyotas Hondas and Nissans go faster meant that drivers often used nitrous oxide as the best way to compete. As the competition increased, so did the speed and danger. One Asian American who had a vision to race safely also wanted to race at the local drag strip. Unfortunately the track was only reserved for V8's, Mustangs, or Cameros.
As stated in the last paragraph as the speed of the car goes up it affects the safety of the driver inversely. One of the new innovations that many auto racing series run is the safety barrier. The safety barrier became more important and looked at after a horrific wreck at Daytona International Speedway on February 22, 2013. The front end of a drivers car sheared off when the car hit the fence and sent parts and pieces of the car into the stands. (Greenberg). After the officials saw the wreck and the horrible aftermath they designed a fence that would keep the c...
Modern day riders just want jump their dirt bikes and ride fast in wide open fields. They think if they can do this, they will be considered good or even great riders. However the best riders are in the woods, racing against the clock and navigating through the toughest trails in North America and all over the world. These are “Enduro” riders. Enduro is the true backbone of motorcycle racing. It is a very challenging and diverse event because it is a race against time rather than against opponents. This is illustrated in the varying and difficult terrain and the technique it requires, the different rules it entails, and the many different motorcycles and types of equipment
Death! It’s scary to think about that especially if it happens to someone you know. The single greatest cause of accidents in the United States is the automobile. In 1991, the U. S., automobile accidents were responsible for about 49.4 percent of all accidental deaths. That is not all from speeding, but it would be higher without speed limits.
Formula One Racing Formula One racing, or F1, is known to be the most prestigious type of auto racing in the world. Unfortunately, in the United States F1 racing is not nearly as popular as other motorsports such as Nascar. On a typical Sunday afternoon if one were to flip channels on the television, Nascar would most likely be airing on a major station. Furthermore, if one were to watch the race he
Auto Racing does have a violent side to it. Not all races are accident free and drivers do not always walk away. Accidents in racing are just that, an accident. There is no way a car accident can be planned or timed to happen. The competition is fierce, and people make mistakes. The violent accidents are a part of the excitement of racing. The fear of death is on the minds of all...
